I have a feeling that he won't serve very much time. I could be wrong, of course. I'd hate to generalize and I hope this isn't the case here but men like him typically don't stick around very long in prison. MOO

Can you say more? Are you familiar with the laws in this jurisdiction?

We will find out tomorrow, but SC doesn't give much leeway as to sentencing.

Also curious as to what you mean by "very much time." I think he has to get 30 years (with time off for good behavior, that would be maybe 15 years - probably more like 20, given the nature of the case.) He could get life in prison.

He faces 100+ other charges under at least 19 indictments (IIRC - probably more, actually) and will be back in court.

To me, spending 20 years in prison at ag 54 is a long time.

I think we're seeing the tides turn - and I worry that you think men get lesser sentences (it's possible that they do or have in the past). But I think things may be getting better and that even privileged men may serve longer sentences.

Respectfully and sincerely, I certainly understand why you might have a different view. I'm known as a PollyAnna.

IMO.

I'm not sure that the juror's opinion was what he was mad about, it does sound more like he was using this as another chance to make the trial about Sled.

The verdict was delivered and she's now free to speak.

IMO, protesting the removal of a juror violating the rules of conduct even after Judge Newman removed the SLED excuse for DH speaks volumes.

Just waiting for an MSM link.

Good point. I guess it remains to be seen.

The charges he has just been convicted of span "30 years to Life" (2, for each murder) and "5 years" for the associated weapons charges (2, for each murder), and he has "been serving time" since he was charged with no bail granted, and now he is a convict, so bail isn't even a possibility.

Then there are the 100+ other charges he is facing for financial and other "white collar" crimes that could span additional years or decades if he is convicted, which is likely since he's admitted in a Court of Law to stealing from lots of people through his work at his former law firm, and the charges just keep piling up...

He was not granted bail since he was jailed on the accusations of the murder charges he has now been convicted of, so bail will not be granted either during any appeals for any of the crimes he has been convicted of (or is facing, the State can hold him in jail for "multiple criminal charges pending" with no eligibility for bail until a verdict has been rendered x 100+).

So barring some kind of miracle that is heretofore unheard of for a jailed, convicted criminal with 100+ additional charges pending to get out of jail on bail, seems highly unlikely.

MOO

I just watched DH going on record protesting the removal of the egg juror -- citing the distrust of Sled interviewing witnesses associated with the complaint. Judge Newman shut that down citing the court personally interviewed the parties.

I think we can guess why the defense would protest the removal of the specific juror (egg juror) based on the opinion she expressed to others.

Judge Newman showing such class!
Loved watching this again

<modsnip: Video removed due to jurors being shown>
Judge: "and he may be taken away" handcuffed facing the spectators:eek:

Thank you Pruddennce for the you -tube link. Watching it, as the verdicts were read out, on the left side of AM there is a picture on the wall. Is that AM Grandfather or relation on the wall, I think someone mentioned it at the beggining of the trial some one said it was.
IMO hopefully there will be more investigation into Gloria Slatterfield and Stephen Smith. People may be able to speak up.

I so much appreciated the SC natives that shared with us the reality of the State including the low country as personally experienced and known to them.

I can recall being taken back two years ago when independent journalists would confirm as fact stories I was certain were social media in the weeds!

Just as I was proud for the youth that made the conscious decision to risk standing up to the Murdaugh machine and speak up about the boat crash while their respective families feared for the safety of these kids, I hope more will be empowered by this verdict to say enough already -- you have no power over me. MOO

You should also applaud yourself for providing a factual framework here.

it was indeed amazing to see the SC natives weigh in (and give me hope).

I share your hope - and I really do think there's reason to be hopeful - for people making conscious decisions to stand up. Although it's very, very hard.

You've been our rock.

Just rewatched Rogan Gibson’s testimony.

I admire that young man. It must have been traumatizing to realize that his friend Paul was to have his brain shot out of his head moments after they spoke about the dog.

Even more, he had the courage to tell the truth about hearing AM’s voice, as close as he was to that family, and IMO his testimony was essential.

Did Alex say anything on that video snippet other than twice saying, “Come here, Bubba?” That’s all I could hear.

Eight crucial syllables that punctured a liar’s alibi and led to a verdict of guilty on all counts.

In a pre trial hearing in December Judge ordered the portrait of AM’s grandfather be removed:

I think AM adjusted fairly quickly to life behind bars and it took him little time to figure out the currency in jail (commissary).

Within weeks, he was bragging to Buster about his successful NFL wagers. He's an alpha male and as long as he continues to have family support on the outside, I see AM knowing how to keep himself safe as well as those he deems useful to him.

I won't be surprised whatsoever to one day read about AM conducting illegal commerce from the inside. JMO

That’s what AM did! He said it over and over and over…

Disagree. He never did.

He never said "I am innocent." He never said, "How can you accuse an innocent man?! I am an innocent man, just trying to get justice for my wife and son1"

He said "not guilty" in the legal sense, that's all. He needed to shout it, when he was arrested. He needed to say it during his testimony.

He most decidedly did not, IMO.

He did not shout or say "I'm innocent, I did NOT do this, I want to find those who did." <modsnip>

In light of the "moment" Paul and Maggie knew they were dying, their appeal means nothing to me.
Yes, I agree. Over it. He's convicted and then he'll be tried for the 777 financial crimes. He's history.
Let them talk about the egg juror, we've spent countless hours discussing Bubba's chicken. A chicken AM lied about until Paul's phone was unlocked.
Things worked out just right, didn't they? In spite of their brutal murders, their clever killer has been convicted of murder due to the stars aligning, if you will.

The witness's were amazing. We couldn't have a guilty verdict without them. Proving the additional lie about the bleu lights kicked when the Sheriff testified. Layered the lies. Lie after lie. Theft after theft. Debt after debt. Death after death.

This is amazing, too. Alex had to be near Paul's recording in order to be heard. Bubba had to run to Alex with a chicken in its mouth. Alex had to express displeasure. Maggie guessed it was a guinea. We have not one, but two valuable videos. Paul's video solved his murder. There is fulfillment in that bit of irony.

He has been overturned before. See, for example: https://www.sccourts.org/opinions/HTMLFiles/COA/5514.pdf

This really doesn’t mean a thing, though. He’s been a judge for a long time. If you see the number of cases he has, you are bound to be overturned at some point. Being overturned doesn’t make one a bad judge. It makes one human.
The SC Supreme Court reversed that Ct of Appeals decision to overturn the trial court’s decision, which was reinstated.
