The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said Kotowski did not take any personal items with him like his wallet or phone. ...

Kotowski’s wife said her husband developed really bad insomnia in the last month.

“His anxiety just kept getting worse and worse and worse. And he started to get a little paranoid. He thought someone was chasing him,” Jackie Kotowski said.

[...]

The search for Kotowski to bring him back to Methuen includes deploying canines, drones, helicopters, and boats.

[...]

South Carolina authorities are hoping people there in the area will review their home cameras in hopes of finding out what may have happened to Kotowski.

The condo the Methuen, Massachusetts resident and his family were renting is on South Sea Pines Drive, a lightly wooded area within the gated community of Sea Pines. The 5,000 acre area is near the shores of the Calibogue Sound and Braddock Cove. There are also are handful of lagoons in the area.

The department also is utilizing a helicopter to search over waterways and more heavily-wooded areas.

In recent days, the department has been in the process of contacting property managers and landlords in other communities to search vacant homes, outbuildings and unoccupied spaces to look for any signs of Kotowski. Homes within the immediate neighborhood have also been searched. Allen said that until he is found, the department can not rule out any area. The other concern Allen raised is Kotowski may be changing locations.

It is the largest tract of undeveloped land on Hilton Head Island and provides a valuable oasis of habitat for wildlife as well as outdoor recreation for humans ...

A lot of trails, swampy areas.... would not be easy to search IMO

According to a report from the BCSO, Jackie Kotowski told deputies that her husband "believes Sea Pines is a 'set up' and has a conspiracy that the people here are out to get him. She stated that Stanley has made several statements of people at this place "watching him.""

She also told deputies that, before he left, Stanley told her "Promise me you will go on without me."

Support for the family has been flooding in on social media, where people have offered up their homes for the family to stay as search efforts continue.

I know that it's hard to fathom sometimes for people but I wonder if anyone has looked into possible addiction issues, possibly within the last month to two month time?

I know that insomnia can make you paranoid but meth (or several other drug) usage can also do that, as well as give you insomnia.

My ex disappeared for three days when we were on vacation once in Florida many moons ago and when he finally did appear again told me a wild tale of law enforcement following him and setting up snipers. He couldn't tell me where he had been and his feet were tore up from walking and it turns out he gotten into some kind of drugs.
Thankfully, he returned but this case is making think back to that time.

Regardless whether it is mental illness, drug use or something else - I'm keeping this family in my thoughts and hoping he is found and safe.

Had he had Covid recently?
There's such a thing as Covid psychosis.
Doctors are still not certain that is what was the cause of my Dad's short psychosis episode.
