Hmm...good question. I don't know how the prison system works as far as letting inmates get degrees...was it a mail order course with no contact with any instructors/students or would it have been online where he might see video of instructors? My thought is that it's important to be aware of his connection to that school in AZ in case there are victims that also have some connection to the school. Someone he might have "befriended" through his studies and then harmed after getting out? Is that even possible though? IDK. He also might have met non-prison Alumni of the school online after he got out and left out of his conversations with them that he was in prison when he got his degree.

I'm pretty certain this degree was done within the walls of the prison...and my guess would be minimal to no contact with people on the outside. They have classes scheduled during 'work' periods, I believe. Here's the printout of his AZ prison record, disciplinary reports, and work experience in prison (including vocational training/adult ed courses in computer science). They likely have an arrangement with Central AZ College (a community college?) to give prisoners credit for course work.

TK did have classmate contact (as you probably know) when attending U of SC Upstate...one of his former (female) study partners was interviewed in the papers. (The usual 'I can't believe it' stuff.)

I didn't see her when I looked for her on the list at first, either. Tracy is at the top of my list. There's not much to find on her (believe me, I've been looking.) She doesn't have many friends or family making a real public effort on her behalf, which is sad and odd. From browsing FB, I got the impression family distanced themselves from her for some reason.

I have a feeling that she is part of the reason LE went to TK's property in the first place. IIRC, It was a joint search with Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office, which is where she's from. It has been reported that the last person KB talked to was TK (I know, that statement doesn't make much sense; I assume they meant on the telephone). Maybe TK was also the last person on Tracy's cellphone records, too, and that came up during investigations.

I didn't see this mentioned. I haven't yet found his actual cause of death in news reports, but it's possible it wasn't homicide...and it's possible TK took advantage of a vulnerable man who crossed his path.

Spartanburg to Asheville, NC is about an hour drive. Spartanburg to the TN border is more like 1.5-2 hours via 26 and 40.

The aerial shows a very well defined road through the woods in that area, in all seasons. It's not just the trail of one person going in and out.

I was confused by that also and searched IN's DOC inmate and offender search, mycase court records, etc and found nothing on him in this state.
