I have no real reason but I have never believed she was in the "woods". It is just I guess based on several things from the very beginning that I will not go into. I realize she could be there and it may be months or years before being found but I just have never felt a reason to believe she is there nor that it is what occurred, where she went and stayed nor where she met any fate.

Maybe part of it is because we have no evidence or proof positive whatsoever that she is nor that she ever was in those woods.

jmo of course.
Me too :)

They can tell you it's cadaver scent, I mean these are dogs that are certified and trained from a number of different states. Dogs that we used for other recoveries in South Dakota so they're known dog teams to us and very credible," says Thom.

Knowing there is a cadaver in the area means search teams can focus their search, but the scent doesn't mean they found Serenity just yet. For the dogs the scent of any deceased human is the same so there is a possibility that the dogs aren't alerting on the missing nine-year-old.

"Obviously that would complicate it if we found a body that we didn't know was out there. That would complicate the issue, but we would still continue searching for Serenity as well," he says.

If it is Serenity, there is still the issue of finding her. A scent can be carried by the wind and other weather factors affect how well a dog team can do on any given day.

The search area, which encompasses a mile and a half radius around the Children's Home, is marked as teams continue to work.

As each section is searched routes taken by searchers are mapped out with red lines, but the rough terrain and varying weather conditions make it difficult to move faster.

"People think you should be able to just walk in and find her if she is in the woods and it's not quite that simple," says Thom. "The terrain is very rough, she's a small child, she could be in a very small area so it just takes a very systematic process and the other question is, again, if she is in the woods, how far did she go?"

Thom also says that the timeline of when Serenity was last seen is a tight window. The two people who saw her were in the parking lot of the home when she ran toward South Rockerville Road. Three to five minutes after reporting this to staff at the Children's Home they drove back down South Rockerville Road but did not see her again.

Thank you for this and I have those same feelings. No particular reason unless it's just that I want so much for her to be alive. Maybe my hope overtaking what could be logic. For some reason I see her happy and in a safe loving place. I can see this, for some unexplainable reason. Still, if she is out there in those woods, it's my prayer she'll soon be found.

To the person, carbuff, I think, who dreamed she is a butterfly in a group of other butterflies, I do believe butterflies are messengers from Heaven, bearing good news. Whether she's an angel or still with us here, she is happy and free.

BBM. I love this and continue to pray for her wherever she may be, whether an earthly angel or a heavenly one.

I also do want to see the searches continue as well as the investigation.

Everyday I check this thread. Everyday it’s the same... no news. Maybe it’s the snowfall combined with rugged terrain and small hiding places. But from the start, my gut instinct is that something isn’t right. About the timeline, the story, the witnesses, all of it.

I’m sure the family is keeping very quiet on legal advice. No doubt a huge lawsuit is coming against the facility. Not saying they are responsible or had any part in this whatsoever. But, as an attorney, the lawsuit will be filed.

I’m at such a loss as to what happened. Maybe she will be found in a tiny little crevice? But I will be surprised if she is.

I as well have not felt things have sat right from day one. Perhaps it was due to an entire lack of information and unexplained contradictions in reporting but I also feel it is something more. I just have never felt she simply ran into the woods never to return. I am not sure exactly what is missing but it feels like a piece of the story or of the events is missing. I am not sure why and maybe will never know why.

I do endorse the searches however and want them to continue as well as any parallel investigation.

jmo.

If there was a sad button, I would click it. While I want her to be found, I also dread it so, so much. If it's her, I hope they find her soon.

Dear AnnaGrace,

This is exactly how I feel too.

So many times I have wished that the weather was not as it was when little Serenity went missing. I recall, as well, seeing the photos of the treacherous and rough terrain in the search area.

Thank you zencompass. I've thought the same too. The timing was terrible. Bless her little heart. This has been such a hard case and we've all become so attached to Serenity. I so wish it could be a happy ending.

I hate to say this but there's a little nagging part of me that believes something more sinister may have happened to this little girl. I do believe she ran away on foot on her own but my gosh, what if she did come back or someone did catch up with her. Then she was harmed.

I would love to see a map of where the dogs are indicating. Based on the news video, it sounded close to the facility. I could be wrong.

More of me however believes she ran away in dangerous weather conditions, that only worsened, hid and tragically passed away outdoors.

Lynne DiSanto SD Senate District 35 did a live on F/B. about Serenity... LE and others did not want her there ??.. she stated that in her live video, I'm sensing some tension between her and the Dennard Family...

I might get slammed for saying this but I believe the Senator is a little self serving with this case.

Why does she share such a private 'family story?' Maybe that was something she informed them she was going to do? That would cause a little friction, I would think?

It’s great that she is keeping this story alive, but I too have gotten a self-serving vibe from her podcasts. Not sure why other than if there’s something to say why isn’t LE saying it? If she’s disclosing facts learned by LE and LE isn’t releasing them they probably have good reason. And I doubt they’ve said “we’re too busy so why don’t you go on and announce it for us”. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if they groan when they see her name on caller ID.

I hope she’s doing it because she’s interested in the case in much the same way we are, and not with the thought of furthering her political presence. As I would with any politician providing in depth coverage of a tragedy on their facebook page.

I too worry this little helpless girl could have been harmed and done away with. Maybe we'll never find out what happened to her. We need to keep praying.
