You got that right! You are lucky to have a decked out storm cellar.

Went down to grandparents root/storm cellar during one tornado. (So many yummy foods canned on the shelves.) But still scary 'cause spiders might be in there, no tv, chairs or radios.

Oh you are so right. I was a whiney little girl and all I could do was think about the spiders and scorpions. I was always scared to death until the day we came out and there had been a tornado. I never complained again. Been through many of them. lol

Have you ever lived in a high risk state for tornado activity?
It's not scientific like a hurricane warning system is. It's russian roulette.
I've never heard of places closing down because of tornado warnings. I've heard of schools closing early though if severe weather is imminent.

The thing is parents have to go to work regardless so what to do with the children? Tornado hits are so random. Maybe this will change the way severe warning days will be handled. Until now, they've never been this predictable that I'm aware of.

Agreed. We have tornado watches/warnings here all the time and I've never actually seen one. I'm 36 (or maybe im 37, I cant remember). We have had a few touch down around me but normally when we hear a warning, it's kinda like, "Okay, yeah, I'll get down to the basement after I finish this load of laundry."

Not everyone is like that, and its certainly not right, but it's easy to fall into the 'boy who cried wolf' thing when we get these warnings a lot, weather people play up the weather for drama, etc.

Lots of heavy lightning off to the southwest. Storms arriving. If I go offline please don't be concerned. I have lived here my whole life, and been an avid weather watcher. I do not take risks. If anything we may lose power and/or satellite (internet) whatever but I will check in if that happens, just as soon as the net comes back up.

going to go make sure candles are at hand and battery op radio.

Stay safe!!!!

Good!! You are smart! Stay safe, friend!

Animals do sense things we don't...amazing.

My storm chasing days are if something is close by and my back/shoulder isn't so painful. Older now and can't do what I wanted to do 10 years ago. lol

Thank you so much for posting all the great information! You gave us the best map for warning/watches.

BBM You are so right they sense these things. I was teaching a horse riding lesson in CA when the 1989 SF earthquake hit. I was 3 hrs south. Suddenly the horses in their stalls simultaneously ran out to their paddocks neighing, all facing north. Then the earthquake hit, it was unreal and they knew before we did. The same thing happened years later in 2003 when a 6.9 hit our area, my dogs alerted a couple minutes before it hit.

Just checking in...all of my family have finally been accounted for and are safe. Very scary couple of days. Please pray for the families of those lost.

Earthquakes scare me far more than hurricanes or tornadoes. Zero warning and no earthquake watches.

It was so weird to see our Great Dane going nuts like we'd never seen before and NO insect sounds at all, not even the noisy cicadas buzzing! It's like we were the last creatures in that area to know danger was at hand.

I'm gonna take the hints from my animal friends.

Update on Parker children:

They have been reunited with Mom and Dad tonight. :seeya:

Integris Hospital has 50+ patients.
9 critical and 1 fatality... a man hit his head getting to his storm shelter.
All 5 children they had have been treated and released.

We have had only one tornado actually touch down at our home. A storm came up suddenly that was so bad I turned on the television to check to see if there was a warning. I glanced out a window and saw our horses running madly. Then I saw a huge piece of lawn furniture floating in the air... just sort of rising. I yelled at me husband and we both, stupidly, went running toward the door. My dog shoved me into a corner and would not let me go out. At all. He let my husband go. Lol. We just had minor damage, but it hit hard a short distance from our home. Just goes to show my dog was smarter than I was!

You have one awesome weather doggie. Hmmm...dog wouldn't let you go out but let hubby go. And who feeds the dog? lol

This is going to be the worst fatality causing tornado ever. I hope I'm wrong...but it's just so so devastating.

PLEASE GOD help the trapped people hang in there and help them get rescued. PLEASE.

Now reporting that some of the children included in the death toll may have been elsewhere; therefore, the number of deaths may be less than first thought!

They are going to use the Blackhawk helicopters to find the heat signatures to try and find victims.
