Mods I'm posting an entire FB Post but it is the DFW weather man from channel 8, abc. So it's not a rumor :)

Here is the best guess at what the radar may look like by 2:30 PM this afternoon as the storm line approaches the Metroplex. This will be right before maximum heating, so the storms will have plenty of energy to work with.

The cap continues to weaken over DFW and should be gone by early afternoon allowing these storms to pass through without hinderance.

Now, my main concern at this time is that the data support the idea that isolated storms will pop ahead of the line. This would not be good. As most of you know we often talk about watching out for those isolated cells that manage to develop ahead of a line since they have the highest probability of spinning up a tornado.

So we will be watching for that possibility this afternoon. At the very least, we will likely see a damaging wind event sweep across all of the Metroplex between 2 PM and 5 PM. In some areas (certainly not all) hail may be driven horizontally into homes and buildings leading to shattered glass.

I will post a 5 PM forecast radar map shortly. -sm

ETA BBM , I have NEVER heard that said in a forecast ever, ever and I've been through a ton of these kind of storms.

Glad to see WS back up, I was beginning to wonder. I also wish to pass along my condolences to Ja'Nae's family, loved ones, and friends. God bless everyone impacted by this tragic storm.

I want to say thank you to the fine WSers who posted reports about the tornado and other storms. We have had several storms (and it continues to rain and now flood), and it was so comforting to have a place to come to and feel like I wasn't alone. Then we lost our internet service about 3:30 a.m. and the cable kept freezing up, so I truly felt alone, wondering what was yet to come and haunted by the images coming out of Moore.

At one point after our initial storm...right at sunset when the skies had cleared briefly...a huge, ugly black cloud silently skimmed across the sky. I felt as though that was a part of the initial tornado. I just wanted to go outside and throw rocks at it.

As it happens, we did wind up having a few tornadoes and damaging winds in the area, but nothing that came close to what poor Moore experienced.

I ventured out about an hour ago to go to the store. I saw debris of all kinds in yards. I had heard that debris from the Moore tornado had been found as far as 300 miles away, but I consoled myself that what I was seeing was debris from our own overnight storms....until I saw a small child's trick-or-treat jack-o-lantern. :( I doubt THAT was sitting on someone's front porch around here this time of year. No doubt it was from someone's closet that no longer exists. That about killed me.

Like many of you, I am sickened to the core over this tornado, particularly in light of the fact that little kids lost their lives and so many others have been damaged emotionally from the experience. These storms seem to be increasing in number and intensity, and I fervently hope we begin building tornado-resistant homes and shelters. (Of course now the big fear is that people are trapped in their shelters...another nightmare unfolding).

Again, thanks so much for sharing the news and the links. I passed the links along, as I'm sure many others did as well. Other than making a donation, it has been the only thing that I could do that kept me from feeling totally helpless. This storm, like others before it, reminds us that behind the "hats" are real people who genuinely care about others and one another. That makes me so proud to be associated with this group!

I am freaking out right now, the same storm system that spawned the Moore, Ok. tornado is now entering my little corner of NE Tennessee. We are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 8:45pm and the wind is whipping the huge trees that surround my house. I know that we are not expecting anything near as devistating, but I am still shaking and nervous. I am an avid weather watcher, after the spring of 2011 and the super outbreak that impacted our area, my DH calls me a paranoid android. Just needed to vent, stay safe out there fellow WSers!!!

Being nervous is certainly understandable, Thorn. Keep your eyes and ears open and stay safe!

I have WeatherCall on my phone. They call me when severe weather is imminent in my exact location (as opposed to the broad-sweeping county warning). My dad insisted I get it. It was pretty inexpensive, and it gives me a measure of peace of mind (especially at times like last night when we lost internet and cable kept freezing up).

I urge everyone to look into getting this service!

During our last round of tornadoes, there were problems with the weather radios. The t.v. stations in the area kept warning us not to rely on the radios. Supposedly that problem is fixed now, although now that you mention it my radio did not go off a single solitary time last night!

Guess it's best to have several ways of getting the news, just to be on the safe side, huh?

What I read somewhere today about the difference in numbers of people lost in the storm, was they were mistakenly counted twice. With all the confusion going on that is understandable. Very sorry for any life lost but glad to hear that the numbers were not as bad as we thought last night.

Search for tornado survivors nearly complete

MOORE, Okla. (AP) — Helmeted rescue workers raced Tuesday to complete the search for survivors and the dead in the Oklahoma City suburb where a mammoth tornado destroyed countless homes, cleared lots down to bare red earth and claimed 24 lives, including those of nine children.

Scientists concluded the storm was a rare and extraordinarily powerful type of twister known as an EF5, ranking it at the top of the scale used to measure tornado strength. Those twisters are capable of lifting reinforced buildings off the ground, hurling cars like missiles and stripping trees completely free of bark..........

The death toll was revised downward from 51 after the state medical examiner said some victims may have been counted twice in the confusion.

By Tuesday afternoon, every damaged home had been searched at least once, Bird said. His goal was to conduct three searches of each building just to be certain there were no more bodies or survivors.

The fire chief was hopeful that could be completed before nightfall, but the work was being hampered by heavy rain. Crews also continued a brick-by-brick search of the rubble of a school that was blown apart with many children inside.

Hope that any other members going through storms tonite will be safe!

Just got home. I have thought about Moore all day. What are the stats now?

I was in an EF-5 tornado 5 years ago this weekend in Iowa. In our small town of about 2000, it took out our high school, convenience store, grocery store, & banks along with 250 homes. It claimed the lives of 9 people. I know what this community is going through & my heart breaks for them. Prayers are going out tonight.

Last Tuesday we had a HUGE wind storm that blew our trampoline down the road and knocked down trees, power poles, etc.

I just heard yesterday that "they" are saying it was most likely a small tornado - there was rotation noted on Doppler - but can't verify because it wasn't spotted by the naked eye. To think THAT was a tornado, a very small one (I was out in the wind when we noticed the trampoline wasn't in our yard anymore and I've never experienced anything like it), I can't even imagine what these people in OK went through with an F4. Shudder.

I live in Nebraska and a few years back we had a bad year. Fortunately no one was killed. An F2 took out my neighbor's tree...all the kids' favorite climbing tree, by the roots. Took the roof off the Walmart and destroysed a car wash. The car wash was rebuilt and is now called the Tornado Car Wash!

A few days later my husband and I were at a stop light and a straight wind storm came through (clocked at 130mph). We watched a gas station roof, the street signs and lights, the trees, and the light poles blow away. It was a miracle none of them landed on our car or blew our windows out. My husband videod it. Ironically, we were on our way to buy a new video recorder so he was fine about risking losing the camera.

It was pretty much useless to expect to keep your trampoline. You just waited a few days and someone else's would show up in your yard.

I should ammend this...no one in Nebraska was killed. One hopped the Missouri River and turned into an EF3 and killed several children in a Boy Scout Camp in Iowa. My brother-in-law was a first responder.

Here's a pic of my friend walking down the street where her home USED to be in Moore. It is completely gone and she can't find her little dog. My thoughts and prayers are with her and all the people, families and children of Oklahoma!
