OT OK you whiners, I'm in Minnesota, and it is -4!!! My fireplace is roaring.

About this time of year, it is just so difficult for everyone I know, not sure why.
All the commercial push for shopping for the perfect gift, and all the happy folks getting together for the Holidays.... makes it even more depressing. I do try to thank God for what i do have .. it helps. "When you're worried and you can't sleep, just count your Blessings instead of sheep, And you'll fall asleep counting your Blessings!)

And why is this murderous woman not in the BIG HOUSE?

Lol!!! Thanks for the chuckle. Stay warm. -4 is beyond my comprehension.

There's is a new date on the court calendar for Friday the 13th. Oral...arguments, as one reporter tweeted naughtily.

I have never followed a case/trial closely before this one, so I have no basis for comparison, but it does seem pretty whacked, for lack of a better word.

The extremes I see in this case:

- an especially brutal murder, with the victim killed three times over
- defendant, now convicted, who has continued to use the media throughout proceedings
- victim whose reputation was put on trial with unsubstantiated claims of a nature that are abhorrent to society
-killer took the stand and lied to court, in addition to lies before trial and since in media outreach
-family and supporters appear to be as delusional as the murderer, with off the wall conspiracies, stalking and basically not knowing when to keep their mouths shut

That's right, the government has over stepped it's bounds. Not to mention it can't even come up with a budget, even before Obamacare. If we ran our households like Washington, :scared: we would all be out on the streets and homeless.

THE primary reason that we have Obamacare, imo, is because that gives the federal government ultimate power and control over our lives. So how scary is that. :scared:

Bingo neesaki, do you remember what Nikita Khrushchev said?

"We can't expect the American People to jump from Capitalism to Communism,
but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism,
until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism."

“the first step in the revolution by the working class is to raise the proletariat [lowest social or economic class] to the position of ruling class, to win the battle of democracy.” For what purpose? To “abolish private property”; to “wrest, by degrees, capital from the bourgeoisie [middle class]”; to “centralize all instruments of production in the hands of the State” (Karl Marx, The Communist Manifesto)

“We are going to try to take all of the money that we think is unnecessarily being spent and take it from the 'haves' and give it to the 'have nots' that need it so much.” (President Lyndon Johnson, White House Address, January 15, 1964.

“By a continuous process of inflation, governments can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of their citizens. By this method, they not only confiscate, but they confiscate arbitrarily; and while the process impoverishes many, it actually enriches some....There is no subtler, no surer means of overturning the existing basis of society than to debauch the currency. The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose.” (John Maynard Keynes, The Economic Consequences of the Peace, 1919

America has been in trouble for a long time, sometimes I wonder when she'll fall.

So sorry. I used to love Christmas, decorating, cooking but the hubs hates it. The fun and excitement are gone for me. I buy the presents, wrap them and hope everyone likes them and maybe I will get a thank you. Try having a birthday close to Christmas, it makes everyone mad.

Kensie, I would encourage you to celebrate Xmas anyway! Why not? Tell hubby, if you can, how much it means to you. What's he going to do? If he really hates it, then go to a relatives house and do it there. Is that a possibility? :loveyou:

Volunteer in a soup kitchen or something similar. It's the things that do not cost any money that mean the most this time of year. Whether it's doing something you do not normally have a chance to do or having a special dinner. Visiting someone in a nursing home, etc. Doesn't have to be much. Just try something different for a change. It doesn't have to be what others believe to be "traditional". Do your own thing. jmo

America has been in trouble for a long time, sometimes I wonder when she'll fall.

America has been in trouble since 1980, when a calculated very unsecret campaign to destroy the middle class was launched. The purpose of destroying the middle class was to allow the incredibly wealthy to consolidate political power, unopposed, and then to wield that power to have legislation enacted at every level that protects their existing wealth, ensures their ability to keep their wealth intact even after they're dead, and allows their various business interests to do whatever it takes to make obscene profits, no matter the human and environmental cost of doing so.

This tiny group of plutocrats with an unlimited budget have exploited Americans' innate fear and distrust of a too powerful federal government. They have waged a relentless PR campaign to undermine our faith in our government, again in pursuit of unfettered power and wealth. The disparity in income between rich and poor has widened into a chasm since 1989, and continues to widen. The brakes are off.

Socialism is the very last thing that is going on nowadays in the USA. The Affordable Care Act is NOT government run health care. The government is NOT taking from the middle class to help the poor. To those who would prefer the government not spend money on "entitlements, " I say, lead by example. Refuse to accept social security retirement fund and social security disability funds. Refuse to accept veteran benefits and head on down to your local VA hospital to demand that those returning from Iraq get their churches to pay for their healthcare, not the government.

Go to the senior centers in your community and explain to the old women there that they don't deserve Medicaid simply because they were housewives and mothers, didn't earn any money, and their husbands didn't leave them enough to live on and afford a doctor too.

That's the brass tacks reality underlying what otherwise is words words words, signifying attempts to divert us while we're having our pockets picked bare. IMO.

I'm sorry to hear that Daisy. I have to say that I'm a little depressed myself, I think for me it's mostly the holidays. My family totally drives me crazy, I am always expected to have it at my house, yet there are certain ones who want to control what day we have it, what time we have it, what we do, what we eat, etc. And if I even think about disagreeing, then here comes the guilt trip and boy do my ears burn, lol. I ask myself why I let that bother me, but I have no idea. :banghead:
Anyway, for me, it doesn't feel like Christmas at all, but rather a difficult, exhausting, stress filled time. :scared: I just don't even enjoy it anymore. :(
Years ago, I remember always loving Christmas, but we also used to change where we had it every year so it wasn't always at my house. There are other things that have changed too, so I'm sitting here now trying to figure out what, and whatever happened to the good ole' days. :(

Those situations that you can't change are the worst for those of us who think we are supposed to be able to change everything. I can honestly say that includes me  You hang in there Daisy, just don't let it get to you. Know you are not alone and you can come here and vent any time you want. There are some good listeners here. :grouphug:

After my mother died the "duty" went to my oldest sister, and we have met, not only holidays, but for family dinners, and always at her home. Before our father died we had Wednesday night dinners for him. Always a pot a beans, fried potatoes, cornbread, and Mrs. Renfro's chow chow. The side meat changed from whatever we want that week. No one had to have their own way, it was to be together, to know that there always someone there for you, no matter what.

From what ever our parents did or didn't do to us, we've stayed together because of my sister.

She took care of us from the time she was ten years old, she's raised the three of us, her four children, and seven grandchildren and when they went to school, she did what she always said she wanted to be; a lunchroom lady. She's been a manager over schools lunchrooms for fifteen years now, and has a great following with her staff, teachers and custodians.

She takes a group of them to our cabin each year, and wandered from Mt. Vernon to Palestine and up to Jefferson and towns in between, going to old antiques stores, and flea market, having a good time. I used to do that with her until it seems like I just kinda wandered away, if you know what I mean. I saw her only at holidays dinners and family dinners, I didn't want to stay long, just wanted to be back home. We've been spending time together again because of my nephew, and I'm grateful that she's always been there, it was me that left her.

Well, for the moment it's behaving itself, lol.

In Texas where I am, it's now 32 with rain / freezing rain, supposed to go to 23 tonight with chance of snow / ice. The day before yesterday, it was in the 70's. Oh, well, that's Texas weather for you, kookie and unpredictable, just like me, lol. :)

neesaki, sounds like Ohio. I ran (yeah right) on Wed..to the cemetery, did shopping, went for meds. etc. because it was so nice. I'm not supposed to go out in bitter cold because of breathing. I hate the winter. I wish we had moved years ago, when the Family ties meant stay. Same family that turned their backs on us when we faced tragedy. :loveyou:

:ditto: on your post. A tragic state of affairs. In trouble. Very serious trouble. :(

Interesting, Mt. Vernon, Palestine and Jefferson. Well, I grew up about 30 miles from Palestine. In the middle of No Where, lol.

What a good older sister you have. I am unfortunately, the Middle Child. Notice the caps, :floorlaugh:. Well, I'm typical as far as that goes, I'm the most screwed up.... :floorlaugh:

I am the spoiled baby.

Tomorrow I am decorating a little, putting up a tabletop tree and wrapping presents all while I listen to Christmas music. A compromise has been reached. Yes!!
