Oh forgot these:

8 Old wives' tales that are all too true:
1. Ice removes carpet dents - place a cube in the stubborn hole, and let it melt. To make the fibers come back to life and look as good as new, fluff the damp spot with a fork.

2. Walnuts fix furniture scratches - Rub a shelled nut over marks in wooden tables, chairs, or flooring. The oils will penetrate, condition, and smooth the unsightly nick.

3. Newspapers clean windows - newspaper fibers are denser than those in paper towels and absorb more liquid without falling apart.

4. Alka-Seltzer unclogs drains - if you've got a mild clog, drop four tablets and a touch of vinegar into the sink or shower drain, and flush with boiling water to clear any obstructed pipes or possible blockages.

5. Soap fills holes in the walls - to plug a small nail hole before painting, rub a bar of white soap in a circular motion over the hole until it's filled in. Then cover the entire surface with a coat of primer.

6. Aluminum foil reduces laundry wrinkles - place a sheet of foil under the ironing board cover. It will help you iron both sides of a garment at once by reflecting heat onto the creases on the back of the fabric.

7. Sponges get squeaky-clean in the microwave - put your dirty scrubbers in a shallow dish with a mixture of water and lemon juice, and zap them at a high power to kill bacteria.

8. Plants are air purifiers - the best air-cleaners are bamboo palm, ficus and philodendron.

I did not know until just now that Irish Moss is used in home-brewing! :floorlaugh: What was that show where the sisters still made moonshine, put it in teacups, called it "The Recipe" and knew no better as dad taught it to them and the cops just let it go? My love of mason jars is showing, lol.

One example:

http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/irish-moss-1-oz.html

Good grief, I grew up in moonshine state. No one ever talked to me about it, although I do know where some stills used to be. I left that state 30 years ago though.

The plant itself, I have purchased. I think it was through Michigan Bulb Company, it didn't make it, but neither did anything else. I was renting in a building that must have poured salt on the silt, lol. (They offer great freebies with every order, so does gardensalive.com. Look for coupon codes when ordering things online. I have yet to find a good source for online living plantings though.)

Rumpot, sounds like brewing up some strong and tasty FRUIT CAKE SOAKER! Yep, mom and dad made homemade fruitcake. In October, in a giant galvanized tub thingy, soaked it until Christmas in whatever flavor of liquor, or liquer, for that year. Wrapped in torn old white sheets, set in a cool room, usually in the China Cabinet. Until candied fruit and nuts got too expensive. Then dad would go gather nuts - good grief the lovely taste of fresh gathered black walnuts - and made applesauce nut cakes.) How lucky was I? Believe me, homemade fruitcake with a recipe from centuries ago, is not like that sugary thing you get in the store. No where close. The only alcohol ever in the house was for the weekly soaking of cakes for 2 months. Never hurt us. Only loved it!

A different topic, what browser does everyone use? My fave just changed to a Chrome mimick and I keep getting those drop downs, pop ups that are attackers....

The Waltons:)

Ray Price passed away today. I feel bad. There are few Country singers or I should say I am not a fan of Country music but there are a few I like. He was one of them. I love his song "For the Good Times". I never did get the recording. It is so quiet here tonight, could here a pin drop! Miss pris will have her sixth Christmas in jail, and I have the nerve to feel lonely..:floorlaugh:

I was just thinking how I miss Yes or No, and Princess. Hope they are both doing well. to both of them, and to all the other Travis supporters that have been absent for a while. And  to all of you who have been keeping the Justice for Travis thread going. At least that's what I call it. :luv: :loveyou:

Hi Josie. I guess everyone is preparing for Christmas. I need to wrap more presents but I still have a week to go.

I feel like I am talking to myself.

It's gotten very quiet around here. I miss having fun and laughs with my friends. Or giving or getting support when its needed.

Hope everyone is well. You're all in my thoughts. Great bunch of people!

We need to get the party started in here again, I mean it is nearly Christmas after all...

Drinks all round?

Wondering if you have a special cookie recipe you bake for the holidays. I baked anginettes an Italian favorite my grandmother use to make. Also, Russian Tea Cakes, which come in different names such as Italian Wedding Cookies or Mexican Tea Cakes. Go figure that one out. Gingersnaps are a favorite of my daughter and grandaughter and this year I am trying Peanut Butter Blossoms. I use to bake a much bigger selection of cookies but I have given that up. So, whats your favorite?

I love gingerbread and molasses cakes and cookies. This year I'm making little chocolate covered cherry cookies. You can use a cake or a brownies and a small muffin pan. You add the batter and bake when done shove a chocolate covered cherry in the middle, when cool cover with some frosting.

My two sisters and I start making candy next Monday. One sister (the loud cook) makes pretty good peanut brittle and fudge, while my oldest sister (the nice one) does the best toffee and dipped chocolates.

One year, way back when we were first married, she gave us a very nice box of chocolates, and my dh was amazed at how good she had gotten at candy making. His favorite were like Butterfinger,s and he asked her how she did it, and she pulled out a box of the bite size Butterfingers, but everything else was her's from scratch.

We'll put a jigsaw puzzle on the table, and people drift in and out, and work on it with us. I have a two thousand one that I'm thinking about. And no dead turtle pieces! I'm baking the pies this year. I love spicy pumpkin pies so I add more clove and ginger, and I'm going to try making a mincemeat from scratch. You can't find them in the stores anymore, and my brother in law loves them.

What do you do if you have a one or two (or more) unexpected "guest" for dinner in your family? Our first is to add a mac and cheese, and if needed a broccoli rice casserole, and a few more rolls for an extra helping if wanted.

Hey Bendpages, this sounds like old times, I miss them. Jigsaw puzzles used to be a mainstay. As did making candy and cookies. But my family has gotten away from all of that. I think I need to bring some of this back, to make Christmas more like Christmas ought to be. There has to be something that will work, right? :christmastree:

He lived in Mt. Pleasant, our lake cabin is up around there, never met him though.

Enjoy, Merry Christmas Nore

I love her too:)
Pitch black at 8 am? How can that be? :(

Guess we're all trying to get our last minute Christmas preps done. I've got to go get the ingredients for my Texas Trash and some other things as well. Christmas shopping is fun except for the horrible traffic and crowds. . At least we're blessed with a beautiful day, 50 degrees with sunshine :) Storms are moving in by the weekend though so I've gotta get going. Have a great day everyone! :seeya:
