CJ , seriously the prednisone does help a lot. My Dr. said they don't like to use it because of
side effects. He left me take it last month at a lower dose. I feel so much better.

Hi Bernina, I'm trying to read up on the Duggars. I must confess I have never watched the show! always sounded to me like they were trying to set a record. My husbands niece said they planned to have a bakers' dozen and they did. Ten girls and 3 boys. not out to be famous etc. just wanted large family. I find myself wondering if Josh spread the word to the other boys. Maybe more than one was at it. I had a cousin who her/brother messed around. Three years older than me. They were in a tent on front lawn . Mom and I stopped by They wanted me to come in. Young as I was I knew it was wrong. I never told my mom, afraid she'd blame me ! now that says a lot about my childhood...

Spellbound, you always have the perfect words to say. I am so aware of how many people don't like his dad for whatever their reasons, and I have just wanted to share how much he was his own person and a really incredible one at that.

Beau reached out to me when my son had his difficulties. Not for any other reason than he cared. Some people may be thinking "Who cares?" It is just that they have no idea how Beau in his own way, stood up for victims and their rights. Beau was really disturbed by crimes against children as well. There was substance behind that handsome face and a sensitivity that is lacking in a lot of elected officials. I guess I want you all to see him as I did and share that with you.

Thanks for letting me verbally grieve here. I have gotten nothing done today as I feel this loss so deeply. Thank you all for being here. Xo

Joe Biden seems like a genuinely nice guy. He proudly wears his love for his family on his sleeve. My heart goes out to him and all who knew and loved Beau. It must be devastating beyond words. Heartfelt condolences to all.

So very sorry about Beau Biden's passing; Joe Biden has certainly had more than his share of sorrow. I feel for his family. And for you as well, Zuri. Anyone who can call you friend is lucky indeed.

Niner....thinking of your brother and sending all the healing vibes I can muster.

cj...hoping you have gotten some more rest and are feeling better. We need you!

Love and Hugs to all Sidebarians. :loveyou: You da best.

*I think Joe is kind of cool, like the kind of guy you'd want as a dad, but that's just me, lol!*

Just take it slow, Zuri. You were blessed to share time with Beau, he sounds like he was a wonderful person and did as much as he could in the time that he had.

Thank you. I will share your condolences as well. I just can't seem to get out of my own way today. I knew it was coming, yet I am still devastated none the less. Has anyone else ever felt that way?
yeah, just when I thought I was starting to get my life back on track yesterday, found out today that my dad is back in the hospital again, and can't make my daughter's graduation.

Oh dear. I am sorry to hear that, Linas. I hope it is not too serious and he will be back home before too long.
congratulations to your daughter. Grampa should be proud, no matter where he is on her big day.

OMG, LinusK, it seems that you can't catch a break! I hope your dad will get well soon. Nonetheless, I know you'll do your best to celebrate your daughter's graduation in a way that befits her accomplishments and coming-of-age moment.

There is an ancient saying, translated through the ages in many languages; but our modern version is: "This too shall pass." It applies to good times and bad times, and is a helpful reminder of how relatively fleeting the moments are that define our lives.

"It is said an Eastern monarch once charged his wise men to invent him a sentence, to be ever in view, and which should be true and appropriate in all times and situations. They presented him the words: "And this, too, shall pass away." How much it expresses! How chastening in the hour of pride! How consoling in the depths of affliction!"

I hope this helps. Please know that I am thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way. :)

:giggle: yeah, I feel the same way about Joe Biden. I would love to meet him and share some laughter. He seems the kind of guy I would gladly have for a relative/friend, and would instantly gravitate toward when needing a hug. Even if I did not always agree with him politically, I have the feeling that would be OK. But since I hate discussing politics. it would be so much better to leave it out and share the every day conversations. His family life stands out to me like no other politician. And his "foot in mouth" at times just feels so right.

Well put!

Since this is an apolitical site, suffice it to say that I adore Joe Biden as a person.

He has been a fixture around Washington for a long time, and I know many people who've met and chatted with him on train trips between Delaware and DC. To a person, they seem to agree that he's one of the most likable people you'll ever meet. Even after becoming VP, with his SS entourage creating delays for every-day commuters, he'll take the time to go around and apologize to people for the inconvenience.

Most politicians put on a facade; others, like Joe Biden, are exactly whom they appear to be. I love him for being so nakedly, honestly, beautifully human.

I am truly heartbroken for him.

As a man I admire Joe Biden. As a farher I adore him. His love of his family has always been so obvious.

Zuri, there is a very famous man who was in a political position, but not a politician, who is from my hometown. My brother graduated from high school with him and I graduated with his sister and two cousins. His father and uncle were very upstanding people in our community who owned a local drugstore and helped everyone. I would get so upset to read negative things about this man because I knew the family, I knew how he was raised, and I never doubted his ethics or good intentions. It can be very frustrating to read negativity when you know it isn't a true representation of the person.

Zuri I am so sorry about the lost of your friend. Prayers for you and his family. How sad it is when someone is in the prime of their life is taken from those who loved them. ((((Hugs))))

I am on the mend, people... I crashed yesterday and slept from 11am till 11:15 pm! Needed that sleep very much so. The medicine had kicked in and feeling so much better :) 2 more days on the medicine and I think it is an up hill climb from here on. I cut down on the albuterol and that has helped me calm down :)

I take Spiriva and was wondering if any one has seen/heard (or tried) the new Spiriva Respimat? I know as a mist it will penetrate your lungs faster and more effective. May talk Doctor about it....

I will more than likely be up for a while now LOL

COFFEE

Coffee has an interesting historic origin. It is believed that even before humans started cultivating coffee, coffee bearing shrubs were found to be growing in the shady dark African forests, and the chemical produced by the beans were used as a form of natural defence against predators and pests. The beans were found to be so energising that gradually they started being cultivated in different parts of the world. Today coffee is a widely consumed beverage in all parts of the world and in different forms.

Here are some amazing facts about coffee that most people are unaware of.

•The first “instant coffee” which was soluble as is popular today was created by a chemist of Japanese-American origin Satori Kato in Chicago. It was also disputed that the same was invented by English chemist George C Washington in Guatemala as “Red-E-Coffee” in 1906. Instant coffee was commercially launched in 1909.

•The first decaf coffee called the “Sanka” was created in 1903 from a bunch of destroyed coffee beans by researchers.

•It is not the caffeine, but high amounts of antioxidants that create the bitter taste in coffee beans.

•Dark roasted coffee beans are believed to have a lesser amount of caffeine than light roasted coffee beans.

•Pregnant women should avoid too much of coffee as high caffeine intake can be fatal for the developing foetus.

•A hundred cups of coffee in a day can kill you.

•Surveys have revealed that New York inhabitants consume about 7 times more coffee than people living in any other US city. Moreover, NY is also home to all major coffee brands and franchises.

•Africa, Colombia and Brazil account for more than 40% of the world’s production of coffee while Hawaii is the only state in the US to produce coffee commercially.

•Coffee Day is a celebrated holiday in Costa Rica on September 12th while the same is celebrated by the Irish on 19th September and 1st October in Japan.

Today although tea happens to be the most common beverage worldwide, Americans prefer coffee and consume and import coffee more than any other country in the world. Coffee, however, has now been discovered to be the leading cause of many health hazards and people are always advised to drink coffee in moderation.

I was just put on the Spiriva Respimat - this has been my 3rd or 4th day using it.

I am also taking Dulera (started same time as Spiriva) and Qvar (taking it for many years now).

Since the new medicine was added to my regime of meds, I have not needed the nebulizer or rescue inhaler as often.

In two weeks I'll see if I can work down from prednisone - on 10mg daily right now.

ETA: The press refers to and labels Jill as his stepmother and Ashley as his stepsister. In all the years I have known them, I have never ever heard them referred to as "step". They just didn't feel or talk that way. Jill was his mom and Ashley was his sister. Simply the way it was. Jill has loved Beau and Hunter as if she gave birth to them herself. There was no degree of separation. For some reason, reading that gave me a jolt.

Oh Zuri ~
Thank you for sharing this heart tugging article. I offer my sincere condolences to you sweet Zuri, on the loss of your personal friend.

I had no idea that Joe Biden had endured so much heartache in his private life. :frown:
Now another loss that is simply unimaginable. Beau's children have lost their father, and his wife has lost her husband. His siblings have lost their brother and his mother has lost her son. And tragically Joe Biden has lost yet another child. It is so unnatural for a parent to have to bury a child, and he has had to bury two. It's absolutely heartbreaking.

* My mother remarried when I was 5. She had 3 more children. They are my sisters and brother. NOT half and not step, in our eyes anyway. I've never thought of them that way, and they have never EVER called me their half sister. The man my mom married was my dad.
