Oh, LG...Janet is laugh out loud funny. I guess you may need to be from NJ to really appreciate her. I've read all of her number books and even though some are better than others, I'm generally entertained.

Nope, not necessary to be from NJ, RR. I haven't read many of her books, but what I have, I've really enjoyed (sorry LG). And (LOL) more than once people have got up and moved away from me :waitasec: when I've had one of her books with me at the doctor/dentist office.

Oh no - I get her no problem. And yes, she is funny and that's part of the problem. Reading is so about personal preferences! I like my murder mysteries to be dark, complicated with layer upon layer of character development and complicated scripts. No humor allowed! Ack.

Give me an Ian Rankin, an Elizabeth George, Henning Mankel and some of the other swedish authors, Val McDermid, there are tons of good ones - you get the picture. Don't like them to be situated in either the States or Canada - Britian or Europe preferably. It's just what I like - I'm kind of weird that way. But not too much blood please...:floorlaugh:

Trying to edit this and I keep getting signed out and have to start overl

It wasn't the OP that was found out. The person 3/4 down the first page was "mdc", works for some kind of mediia enterprises, they are the one with the profile on amazon.

Sorry for the wrong information! We still don't know who cambridgekc in the UK is.

you know it isnt me!

:what: is there really a rabid OCA supporter over here?

LOL with all the wonderful book reviews here. I have to admit that I've always been an avid reader, but not so much since a series of eye surgeries. I can read the screen a lot better than a real book. I have a little bit of scarring on my retina from surgery so my right eye sees stuff a little wiggly. The left eye needs a bit of laser work done on scar tissue from cataract surgery. I keep putting it off.

I have an 8-year-old stack of my favorite mystery authors ready and waiting. I've been reading books (Ashton, James Patteron, Janet Evanovich, etc.) I haven't read a Stephen King book in years. They just make me crazy. I used to read Patricia Cornwall, but it got way too dark for me.

Of course, I spent three solid years blogging Casey Anthony, which took all my time. Who could read fiction when this real life drama was going on? I am eagerly watching the Kharma train-wreck at work.

Next up on my docket is to continue with the Aftermath we discuss here and the Andrea Sneiderman case.

So often, truth is stranger than fiction!

Am I the only one here who's going to admit that I rarely read crime/mystery novels, & who's favorite authors are Lynn Kurland, Sherrilyn Kenyon and Robert Heinkein (R.I.P. Mr. Heinlein)?

Lol, they just talked about this on "Fox and Friends." No mention of Baez, though ~ too bad they aren't yet aware that he does the same thing!

Maybe we will get lucky and this topic will be an upcoming blog of Hal's! It sounds like a good subject for him to me!!

Yes, but isn't it a dry heat? We had a nice break of cooler temperatures and now it's back up in the 100's. Send what you don't use on to Texas. With the West Nile you can't sit outside for long even if you use repellants.

This statement always makes me laugh LOL I always think, so is an oven, but it's still HOT :-) Actually we do get some horrible humidity here, especially after those crazy monsoons, which we have only about a month left to get through, YAY. It's really nice this morning, I went for a walk, you can feel the moisture in the air. It's crazy hot here but I do believe I would rather deal with the heat then what is happening in New Oleans :-(

Speaking of books, I bought Fifty Shades of Grey on audio, I didn't read any reviews on it, this is the first time I've bought something without reading any reviews. Has anyone here read it?

Oh Grammie...you are in for a ride! Haven't read it yet, somebody gave me all three books. But there has been enough in the media lately to let me know what I'm in for... LOL.

When I first got my Kindle I was on Amazon daily reading reviews etc. and this book - Fifty Shades - was hot, hot, hot 2 years ago. Just now made it up to the mainstream.

Oh Grammies, not you too!!!! :floorlaugh: I have not read it but was given a copy by a friend. Just not my thing. Yesterday morning I started a book that my daughter suggested. is called The fault in our stars. I finished it last night. Great book even if the topic was a little grim. Tom green did a great job writing it. I highly recommend it.

IF INTERESTED....Check out the books "Gabriel's Inferno" and "Gabriel's Rapture" by author Sylvain Reynard...Canadian Author..books set in Toronto mainly, some US cities and Italy.
These books do not go into the explicit, detailed content as FSoG. I enjoyed the books

These books have recently been acquired by Penguin Group (Berkley Publishing) from Omnific Publishing and are due to be released in paperback and audio format soon...or they can currently be downloaded as a e-book

This one is not simple, but I was spellbound - We need to talk about Kevin. That one I never saw coming...

I LOVED this book, I was lucky to meet the author and get a comp book at the 2011 Book expo in NYC, I thought it was fantatsic, mostly because chick rule, and I love autobios... p.s. its a real NY Times Best Seller...

Cleopatra: A Life: Stacy Schiff: 9780316001922: Amazon.com: Books

Thanks Zippity
I am moving away from reading about England in the 1400's(War of the Roses, House of York vs House of Lancaster)...I was going to read about English Queens from the 1200 to the 1400 but I may take a side trip and read the book above...
Thanks

Yes, I read the first couple of pages and thought oh geez - no way. They need to at least be well written. My DD lent me one of Janet Evanovich - now that last name isn't right but maybe you understand who I meant - completely juvenile writing..:banghead:

Tried reading Evanovich but just couldn't get into her style. When I want the combo of humor and sleuthing, I head straight for Sue Grafton. Love the Kinsey Millhone character (although the last book was a tad disappointing). A friend turned me onto Sue and I plowed through the "alphabet" series like the ten-year locusts! Too bad it takes her two years to write one. Heck, Sue is 70 and I'm 60; hope she lives long enough to finish the series and I live long enough to read 'em!

But if I want something dark, it's Patricia Cornwell. I don't mind the gore since she tells such a good story.

It's great reading about everyone's favorite authors and books; I've gotten some great tips from y'all (i.e. Tana French; thanks, lg!)
