ITA LG. I know JP was just as floored about this jury & verdict as we all were.
I was so looking forward to JP closing statement before he sentenced OCA.
That is what I looked most forward to since the trial began. Sadly, we will never know.

The Judge still held that one Ace up his sleeve. He could have called a mistrial at any point before the verdict was read. He was trying to avoid a mistrial and future appeals but a mistrial could have been called and a new trial date and jury would have been secured.

Maybe, he already realized that the State could not afford to do this twice.

Yes, I wondered about that - he must have been frustrated beyond measure. I'd sure like to hear Jeff Ashton's opinion on some of these points about Judge Perry.

Regarding the above discussion about Judge Perry.
I think one of the biggest problems that our justice systems has is way to many rights for the accused. Those rights outweigh any that a victim ever had. During the trial Judge Perry was doing his best to make sure that OCA had a fair trial and was doing everything in his power to protect OCA's rights, and at the time I was so glad he was so that it wouldn't cause an applet issue later. I guess the bottom line is, it is what it is and no one can change the outcome. So sad but true I think.

If he died in a car accident - wouldn't there be some blood tests of some kind around in an accident report? Or was he DOA? If he was driving - someone may have checked for drugs or alcohol. In an autopsy?

And maybe tissue samples? Does anyone know how long a coroner or lab holds onto those before they can legally dispose of them? I read the article, his mom seems to think that if she takes a polygraph that that should prove something. I don't think so, she never saw Casey or Caylee, never spoke any of the A's, so all she has to go on would be what her son told her. The only other thing that could be done is an exhumation, and seriously...is it really worth that just to say he was Caylee's father? Unless she's wanting to file a civil suit for wrongful death...

I think judge Perry is a great judge but I will never understand his not allowing the prosecution to challange the juror who didn't like to judge. If this juror had been dismissed the next one might have hung the jury.

Agree, a dead father who never played a part in a dead child's life...It would be a different matter if it was OCA who had died and we had a live Caylee who needed a guardian - in that case grandparent rights would be being fought and in the case of the Anthony's - I can see that someone may want someone other than them to play that role..

That, and the state judicial system was facing a major financial crisis - we heard all about how funding almost ran out for the trial itself, and that one person (can't remember her name) being all snide about the money situation and how the trial wasn't going to be able to happen. I bet Judge Perry had heat on his back on getting this case over with and not doing it over again. Couple that with having to make sure Casey's rights were being protected to the point of no room for appeals, and it's definitely a recipe for disaster to me. I bet he did want to call a mistrial and do away with Baez, but I also bet he had administration telling him time and again to get it over with and NOT go to a second trial. In the end, it's about money and the jury running out.

Honestly, he handled this best he could. I don't think any of us could have done any better handling this circus ourselves. It didn't turn out how we liked, but we can't just say it's Judge Perry's fault. Even he was angry at the verdict. I'm sure even he wishes he could go back and do things differently if there had been the money there to do a new trial.

Hi All! Does anyone know if Baez actually participated in the AAFS annual meeting held earlier this month?? I'm so far behind on Caylee threads here, and haven't caught any updates.
IF Baez was indeed part of a panel of "experts" (snort!), there are two things I fervently pray happened:

1. Upon introduction, I hope he was met with any combination of (((crickets))), boos,
hisses, gagging sounds and/or "walk-outs".
2. I hope at least twenty or so conference attendees asked him if he was a chemist.

Check your local library for JA's book also, ours has two copies available and a waiting list already.

GREAT idea ZsaZsa to pass along to our fellow WS'ers. I also ordered from my library - after I realized my online preorder LONG ago must not have gone through. They didn't have a copy - so I put in a request for an inter-library loan. I've done that more than once - it's easy to do! For those that have financial issues - please consider taking advantage of having a library card, and submitting the paperwork for the inter-library loan. You'll need title/author/ISBN/publisher/publishing date - all of which you can obtain from the onsite booksellers!

Ya know, that was one thing that I was really REALLY looking forward to - especially after the issues during the trial with the other two. I would think that he had prepped for the guilty statement..........but......we will NEVER know what he was going to say. ...................

She seems to think GA is employed at this Quinco Electric Co. When I googled them and George Anthony I got results that someone from Quinco went on their dolphin vaca with them.

And the irony of a "Chili Cookoff" is too rich.

ETA: I notice there is no wedding ring on LA. This pic was taken in October. I know a lot of men don't wear one but...

Since I'm on twitter, I see that NG is a trending topic. Guess it has something to do with DWTS. :waitasec:

Sheesh, you girls are observant! :floorlaugh:

Actually I looked at it a few times to figure if it was really him. :floorlaugh: Seems like the same Chili Cookoff event. It is kind of nice to see them look happy. Maybe JA's book is rubbing off on me. :truce:

...LA - can't really give him grief, he's gotten to the man-body stage - not a kid anymore, looks ok. Doesn't have that genus rattus look of some of his relatives, iykwim
