DC10 just made another sweep and dump up the hill. My ex-co-worker and her husband where told to leave Crestline last night at 10:30 p.m. Fortunately everyone I know who had to evacuate areas here and in SDiego County have family to stay with.

Here is some more news links:

With the number of homes ordered evacuated, more than 750,000 people could easily have fled since the wildfires began over the weekend in San Diego County. Says a spokesman for the county's emergency effort, "It's basically a mass migration here in San Diego County. The numbers we're seeing are staggering."

"We have more houses burning than we have people to fight them," San Diego Fire Capt. Lisa Blake said. "A lot of people are going to lose their homes."

I'm getting a little ticked off at people who refuse to leave their homes. I realize they think they can do a better job to douse fires that threaten their house, but they are stretching fire services very thin. Every person who refuses to obey mandatory evacuation must be "babysat" by a fire crew.

That's how the person in the Harris fire got trapped on Sunday and died. He and his 15-year-old son tried to save their home. The dad died. The son is in the UCSD burn unit, as are the 4 firefighters who tried to save them. :banghead:

can you confirm this K-9? That would directly impact me.

It's going towards Lake Elsinore, kind of around Antonio. Someone that we work with was heading out that way. I don't see any actual verification with any of the agencies. Sorry to scare you.

Antonio is on my side, I sent my son over there to check it out. thank you

eta: he can see smoke from what looks like Caspers Park

OMG this is funny Nova.

Not really. Hardly a day goes by without our TV stations leading with a story of some old dinosaur who mistook the gas pedal for the brake and took out a few people. :D

We've learned to watch out for them in the car pool line.

Seriously, JBean, I hope that Ortega fire does not become a problem for you.

I have a friend who just moved to Calabasas. I can't tell from the maps if there are any fires near them, doesn't seem like it, but I'm not as familiar with that area. ???

Oh, good. Sorry to pass along unverified info, but this stuff is moving around so fast. :)
I deleted that because I menat to say I wonder if it is controlled brush fire in order to keep fires from starting here.
So scratch that.

:furious: :furious:

Those idiots tick me off beyond belief! Everyone thinks they're safe, thinks they'll be able to save their house - and they cost lives! The poor kid - 50% burns, and the firefighters didn't need to get hurt! We're 4 firefighters short in fighting these fires due to one idiot who thought his house was worth more than his, and his son's life!

I can understand that some people are attached to their homes to the point of risking their lives. But at some point, I think the firefighters should be allowed to say "you're on your own" and move on--WITHOUT our second-guessing them later.

Like hurricane evacuations where they will just ask for your next of kin and then leave you alone.

That is terrible to hear the firefighters and the son are injured.

Stuff and houses are not worth lives.

I think they do do that Nova. they tag their houses and tell the people that won;t leave that they are on their own and they will not come back for them. I think they even get their next of kin info.

Yeah, but the firefighters are human, and they got into this in part to save lives. I suspect they just couldn't walk away - especially with the teenager there.

Now that - OK, if you're an adult, risk your own life. If you have a kid with you, and they spot that, I think the kid should be whisked off to safety by the police, fire, whoever.

360,000 acres blackened now---but the winds are dying down , allowing the planes to help out

That's good news! Still saying prayers. I don't have much to contribute because I'm not familiar with the area at all. But I am reading here and keeping up-to-date.

An elderly person died this morning (I think at Escondido High School) when his assisted living facility had to evacuate, and they placed him in the gym with no air conditioning.

Two county hospitals have been evacuated.

I'll bet Love Mama's been evacuated- inland Del Mar and La Jolla are out of their homes.

I think you mean La Jolla reservation, not the town of La Jolla within San Diego.

Although I don't think she has posted, so I hope she is safe.

I think San Diego is doing remarkably well considering the circumstances. News stations are reporting that NO MORE DONATIONS of anything are needed at the stadium unless requested.

Man Running Springs has really been hit hard. Itis a quaint town in the mountains on the wya to both Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear.
The Dc10 has been helpful but that fire jumped the 18 and the 330!

I just heard that. ALso the winds are shifting to the West. KFI had a live report of the Flume of smoke near Running springs saying the smoke was up to 18,000 feet.

We had lunch at this little place in Running Springs last winter. We sat outside with our dog and it was so cute.
