Cornell was said to have behaved 'absolutely normally' spending several minutes with fans and warmly greeting them.
The 52-year-old told fans 'I love you' as he was escorted from the front of the Motor City's Fox Theatre from a door near the main box office.
He wished them luck, posed for selfie photographs and told some he would see them in Columbus, Ohio - where his band were due to perform Friday night.

Still clothed in his performance t-shirt and jeans, he emerged from the Fox Theater 25 minutes after coming off stage at around 11pm with band mates including co-founder Kim Thayll.
It was around 11.25pm that Soundgarden were escorted out of the Fox Theater after their sell out concert.
The group were whisked off together to the MGM Grand Hotel in a mini-bus.
The hotel is behind the theatre and less than half-a-mile away.
Cornell gave no clue of his torment and appeared 'absolutely normal' said a member of his security team.
He seemed happy and glad to meet fans.

The guards, who were dressed in blue, accompanied the band to the hotel and they arrived within minutes.
Cornell went to his room and shortly after wards his wife raised the alarm.
Security forced his hotel room door open after she became concerned about his safety.
Cornell was found dead shortly after midnight, an hour after the final number in front of a capacity 5,200 fans. There were also additional fans allowed into standing room only areas.

Police spokesman Michael Woody told DailyMail.com:*'We are doing everything to look into this death
'There is absolutely no motive at this stage for this suicide. But we hope to be able to bring closure for his family and his fans as soon as possible.'

He said Cornell had left no suicide note, but would not comment on questions of whether any drugs are found next to Cornell's body or in his room.

I just can't imagine he wouldn't have left a note. Something to his children, his wife who he seemed to love so much. It just doesn't make sense and I know suicide doesn't make sense and maybe he did leave a note. We've followed many cases here where find out a note was left but I just can't. I want nothing more than his family to mourn in peace and privacy but I just don't understand.

Good job, all.

When I saw the news just after six a.m. I knew this was important to post. But the outpouring of grief and love has been more than I imagined.

Grunge-wise I was exclusively a Nirvana fan. I think they're in the top five U.S. bands ever. But I also owned 'Super Unknown,' and "Black Hole Sun" was a staple of my mix tapes, back in the day.

So thank you all for caring, and for caring enough to post. And dear Chris Cornell -- requiescat in pace, my dude. You left us better than we were before.

In a 2016 interview with The Tampa Bay Times, Cornell offered this chilling and inadvertently prophetic quote, when responding to the high-profile deaths of musicians Scott Weiland and Prince:

"What ends up happening with musicians and actors is, they're famous, so when somebody has an issue, it's something that gets talked about. People die of drug overdoses every day that nobody talks about. It's a shame that famous people get all the focus, because it then gets glorified a little bit, like, 'This person was too sensitive for the world,' and, 'A light twice as bright lives half as long,' and all that. Which is all bulls---. It's not true."

Before Cornell’s final show, Pretty Reckless drummer Jamie Perkins posted a heartfelt message on Instagram: “Tonight we play our final show opening for them at the absolutely gorgeous (and sold out) Fox Theatre in Detroit. They’ve been humble and gracious, and are still an absolutely destructive live band. They dedicated a song to us in Indianapolis. They were one of the bands we bonded over when we all started to make music together. This whole experience has been incredible.”

Yikes. Ativan is one of the few things I'm allergic to.

I also suffer from anxiety and depression. It can be very bad. When I take Ativan, I have horrible nightmares. It's a scary drug.

On another note, I have stayed many times at the MGM Grand in Detroit. Sure don't want to stay in that room!

RIP Chris.

Omg. I take Ativan for panic attacks because it helps without the drugged feeling that Xanax gave me.

I'll take half a Xanax if I'm not at home, if I still need to "function". My grandmother was given Ativan when she was in the hospital but it made her combative.
