BBM .. but why would that be any different to that money being the contract killing money? .. and what else did they steal, that made it all so 'worthwhile'?

I don't think you're getting me all or maybe I'm not explaining myself.

Originally, one of the two hijackers, I can't remember which, said that it was a robbery that went wrong I.E. no one, not even Tongo, let alone to Dewani, intended this to be a hit but it was a planned robbery that Tongo timed for when Dewani had given him the big bulk of money in the car. That's why he was so insistent on it happening that night. Apparently, according to one of the hijackers, she was screaming so much so they shot her. Whether or not this was by mistake or out of anger we don't know. Either way, the whole thing was a robbery that went bad. Plus, R15,000 is plenty motivation for a robbery, just as five years of a jail term is plenty motivation to pretend it was someone else's idea!

I hope he flies home on his own -- without the people of SA paying his way.

BBM - but the judge herself said that it was not enough motivation for a contract killing (based on something one of the lying killers said about how much he earned in cab fares on a good month <<-- why the heck would she believe that .. it sounds just like the kind of cherry-picking that Masipa used in the Pistorius trial) .. so anyway, using the judge's 'logic' about that, then it wouldn't have been enough for them to have wanted to commit a robbery, which involved a killing, either. It's the same amount of money, whichever way you look at it.

What else did they steal that made it all so worthwhile then? As far as I can make out, absolutely nothing .. they didn't steal anything else, all they had was the money .. so it could just as likely be a contract killing as a robbery.

BBM .. but why would you believe the killers story about this as opposed to basic logic about the case as a whole?

I asked a police officer who is looking after the Hindochas how they are. "You don't want to know," she said. #DewaniTrial

This result was expected considering the evidence. It is easy to blame the judge but the cops and prosecution have done a horrible job collecting tangible evidence. Most of evidence is he said she said , coupled with the deals given to the killers it does not help the case.

I have doubts the civil case will end differently

British man, Shrien Dewani, not guilty in the murder of his wife
26 MINUTES AGO DECEMBER 08, 2014 11:10PM

A SOUTH African judge has acquitted British millionaire businessman Shrien Dewani of murdering his bride on their honeymoon, saying the state had not adequately made the case against him.
Judge Jeannette Traverso said the prosecutors’ arguments had “fallen far below” the level needed to secure a conviction, paving the way for Dewani to walk free without mounting a defence... :(

Where is everyone on this important day ... PrimeSuspect, Estelle, Emirates, King Charles?

One of my absolute favourite photos

JJ I got confused and read your prior post that this was going to be tomorrow. Duh!

I have just been outside and taken out my frustration on my garden path, with a very stiff broom. It did not help.

'Millionaire businessman Shrien Dewani was sensationally cleared of the honeymoon murder of his bride Anni - while her outraged family shouted in disbelief.

Dewani, 34, who fought a four battle against extradition to South Africa to face his accusers, heaved a sigh of relief as Judge Jeanette Traverso dismissed the case against him.

The judge roundly condemned the evidence of the chief prosecution witness and said: "The accused is found not guilty of this charge." '

'The Daily Mail is reporting that Shrien Dewani could attempt to sue South African authorities over an attempt to portray his sexuality "as a motive".

The paper says lawyers claim he "could seek damages for malicious prosecution". '

I hope he does, because that will open the door for our German escort friend to testify. :)

South African National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Nathi Ncube denied the case had collapsed because of a "shoddy police investigation".

He said: "The judgment centres around evidence that was given by three people.

"Nothing has been said about the police, nothing was said about how the prosecution could have done better.

"The fact of the matter is that we were relying on people who were themselves involved and implicated in the case."

'Judge Traverso said it was crucial for the state’s case to prove that he entered into an agreement with others to have Anni killed in 2010. Failing that, there would be nothing linking him to the crimes.

She said a defendant was entitled to be discharged if there was no possibility of conviction unless he entered the witness box and incriminated himself.

Tongo was the only accomplice witness, she said, adding that such evidence should be treated with “caution”.

Tongo’s version needed to be corroborated specifically where it implicated the accused.

Details such as where he picked up and dropped off Dewani and his wife did not provide corroboration, the judge said.

“It is what was said during these events which is at issue and for that there is only the version of Tongo,” she added.'

Sorry Estelle. I can see what's happened. If you look at p.34 you'll see both PrimeSuspect and I quoted from two different sources that said "tomorrow" but the quotes we both used were published on Sunday but we posted them today. As it's now after midnight, they now say we posted "yesterday".

Unfortunately you must have missed it but directly underneath my post was a further one where I asked if today was going to be the last day (the one with another wedding photo of Anni).

Someone on the OP thread was confused with the appeal date so to avoid confusion because others are in different parts of the world and we can be a day ahead as it were, I posted Dewani was Monday 8 and OP was Tuesday 9.

I know you've been following this and it's really terribly bad luck. I'm really sorry for the confusion.

'Shrien Dewani told a German gay prostitute he had doubts about marrying Anni - then apparently confessed his unease to a second gay lover whose evidence was never heard, MailOnline can reveal.

The older man, who had a lengthy liaison with the bisexual businessman which overlapped with his first date with Anni, refused to speak against Dewani in court, but confirmed he was conflicted in the months before his wedding.

His story bore a strong resemblance to what Dewani had also told the gay escort known as the German Master - that he had concerns about the union. As a result, the unnamed lover was put under pressure by Scotland Yard detectives to make a statement.'

Traverso ruled on Monday that she would not grant Mbolombo immunity.

She found that the evidence presented by Tongo, Qwabe, and Mbolombo was replete with fundamental contradictions.

“I take into account that all three witnesses are intelligent and more than capable of twisting their versions to implicate the accused,” she said.

“They may have been amateurs, but I do not believe any of them would have been so stupid as to commit the crimes for a few thousand rands.”

I don't understand? 4 people were so stupid as to commit the crimes without SD for less than a few thousand rands?? My logic fails here.

The pair stayed in touch between meetings by text message and email and for the second time in February 2010 – again at Mr Leisser's home.

Dewani is said to have told Leisser that he was due to marry a 'lovely girl' but could not break off the engagement because he would be 'disowned by his family'

Dewani is said to have told Leisser that he was due to marry a 'lovely girl' but could not break off the engagement because he would be 'disowned by his family'

Dewani arrived for the appointment and changed into a rubber vest and '20-hole boots' – footwear favoured by skinheads, which are popular in 'submissive' role playing, according to Mr Leisser's statement to police.

When Dewani removed his clothes, the escort was alarmed to see that his nipples were already cut and bleeding, but the wealthy businessman asked for further pain.

Mr Leisser, originally from Munich, told police that he nearly called the session off: 'I was afraid to touch him, but Dewani was very keen to continue so we did.

'I stopped a few times during the session as the nipples started bleeding so badly.'

Mr Leisser donned a pair of skin-tight leather gloves in order to protect himself from infection, he told officers, adding that Dewani 'got extremely turned on by the pain'. Dewani stayed the night once again and paid £400 for the session.

Man another case in South Africa like this. Is the police that incompetent or are judges really that stupid in SA?? Maybe SA doesn't understand circumstantial evidence??

That article I just posted had me wincing....

Me too...what a sexually mixed up guy Dewani was and is!

Any woman who heard of this sort of this type of past behaviour, would not want to marry him. I predict that Anni had not heard of it but she would have soon realised, he was more than just kinky. Anni could have been a virgin and inexperienced as this is the way with many Hindu women so do not believe in sex before marriage.
