The Defence putting on record that their client (Henri) is concerned with Desai's demeanour and interaction with witness

Tone of voice, demeanour, and general impatience shown towards the current witness

Desai asking why this is becoming a sticking point now only?

"If you don't like the tone of voice of the Judge, what can you do?" - Desai

Adv. Botha driving home the point of his client's concern about Desai's impatience with Dr. Olckers

Moving on, the matter has been placed on record. Adv. Galloway continues

Adv Botha says Henri #vanbreda is concerned about J Desai's demeanor. Desai asks if he is asking for my recusal

Adv Botha: my client says your tone of voice differs from the manner in which state witnesses were questioned

J Desai: what aspect of the Criminal Procedure act is this? You have been in this court for years

J Desai: If you don't like the tone of voice from the judge, what can you do? In many cases the client doesn't like the judge

J Desai: notes Henri #vanbreda concerns

Hmmmm.... is HvB ready to throw the towel in, he's not happy with how this is going, he's interrupted twice today.

According to Twitter he's interrupted because he's not happy with Desai's manner towards Olckers.

I'll try to copy some tweets.

Edit

You're way ahead of me!!

Nope, to my question H throwing in the towel. HvB has a problem with Judge Desai's questioning technique, his demeanor.

Desai: Perhaps I have displayed impatience, that is not a cardinal sin.

Botha asks that it be placed on record.

No one accredited you, you have no proficiency, Galloway says. Olckers responds she doesn't just testify "as I see fit".

I tried to edit my above post but can't

Prime is way ahead of me !!

When asked by Desai what "scope narrowed" means, Olckers explains how the 151 samples were divided into sets A (35) and B (81)

Olckers: this is a case with more samples than I've ever seen.

Olckers clarifies that touch DNA is weaker than other forms of DNA i.e blood

https://twitter.com/ajnarsee

Galloway: now moves into Locard principle...your evidence is you regard touch DNA weaker than other DNA

The mask has slipped, we've seen the arrogant HvB, no Judge speaks to HIS witness like that, even though she has made some serious claims that discredits the lab used in most if not all previous murder cases! She has to come up with the goods, J Desai is concerned about her claims.
I think Botha instructed HvB in the break to intervene if J Desai persisted with questioning Olckers, I have no proof, but Botha is behind it, he's pulling the ol' Terry Price trick!!

It would appear Galloway is explaning to Olckers (!) why blood is difficult to remove

Olckers concedes that she is not a blood spatter expert.

The definition of nuclei, chromosomes and cells. Biology 101 being discussed now between Olckers and Galloway

https://twitter.com/ajnarsee

G: now talks about blood vs touch DNA, making blood more difficult to remove

Olckers: how easy/ difficult it is to remove blood I cannot say

Galloway: are you willing to accept Col Otto testimony about blood in shower

Olckers: I would have to take her word for it, I cannot say

G now moves on to breaking down what makes up DNA, asking the witness to "help the court understand"

Desai must be absolutely furious, and I don't blame him.

The Defence is setting the stage for an appeal.

Galloway confirming with the witness the definition of an allele, genotypes and more. Biology class in in full swing

https://twitter.com/ajnarsee

Galloway and Olckers now taking us through a Life Science/ Biology class on DNA

G: DNA profile is like a cell phone number, Olckers disagrees, there are people with same SDR profiles

https://twitter.com/ajnarsee

G: SOP are there to limit contamination SA and ensure validity of results

G: for e.g. If you want to bake the same cake, you have to follow the recipe, similar to DNA process

https://twitter.com/TeamNews24

Galloway shakes her head as Olckers again gives extensive, drawn out answers to her questions. "So, in short?" she interrupts.

SOPs limit risk of contamination as its processed, for reliable and true results, Galloway explains. "Bake a cake, use a recipe".

Olckers says testing should be blind, although some cases are marked urgent, or name of case is included.

I'm so glad that my early impressions of Galloway were wrong. She's quite a fighter in her quiet, calm way.

You requested paper trail and SOPs from the lab, Galloway asks. Olckers says they also asked what systems they used.

Galloway says Olckers asked for all samples in Otto's report. This is why she received 151 - she didn't ask for all 216.

During QPCR, the process is stopped if there is not enough DNA, Galloway explains. "Not like lab is trying to hide some samples."

https://twitter.com/ajnarsee

G: some samples may fall away on the way side. Even though 216 samples, only 151 were analyzed

HvB looks very worried.

Court adjourned till tomorrow.

Judge Desai wants court to start at 9.30am (15) and tomorrow he's not available from 11am till 1pm.

I agree, she's being very thorough, Galloway said she googled Olckers and found a particular group she belongs too, yet Olckers denied she belonged to the group (anymore). The group are waiting to hear from her. Weirdest thing ever, lol.
