Cape Town - The family of German tourist Nick Frischke say they feel helpless as it has now been over a month since the 22-year-old went missing after setting off on a hike in Hangberg last month.

Search operations initiated along the Hangberg trail between Hout Bay and Sandy Bay over the past weeks have been unsuccessful.

Frischke’s father, André Hallwas called on anyone with information on his son’s whereabouts to come forward.
“We currently feel a little helpless because we can't do anything but wait. We are waiting and also have the impression that the police aren't doing much anymore.
“There's not much we can do.

After we initially started a big media campaign and it became well known, we can't do much now but wait,” he said.
The father said all his son wanted was to enjoy his time in the country during his two-week vacation.
“My greatest wish would be (that) Nick is found safe and sound.

“It is difficult to live without knowing what is going on with him,” he said.

CAPE TOWN - Search teams assisting with the search for German tourist Nick Frischke have reportedly been withdrawn as five suspects linked to his case are set appear in court on Monday.

The 22-year-old went missing in the Hangberg area almost a month ago.

The suspects reportedly confessed to robbing and stabbing him while he was hiking in the area. They face robbery charges and are back in the Wynberg Magistrates Court.

The men were found in possession of the tourists' belongings, including his cell phone and backpack.

They claimed Frischke ran away after the robbery and had not been seen since.

Police say search teams would be pulled back until new information came to light.

However, they said the investigation into Frischke’s disappearance would continue.

interesting that the suspects admitted to robbing him- why would we believe that he "ran away?" tough to run away from 5 other guys unless they allow you to run away. The posted signs about crime need to be taken seriously IMO; if it was not dangerous they would not be posted. Table Mountain area is very pretty and accessible; too bad it is not safer.

A private investigator hired by the family confirmed a R20 000 reward has been offered for information.

“We are following up on all leads. Search and rescue teams are still going out and doing searches. But there is nothing new at the moment,” he said.

CAPE TOWN - The case against the five men arrested in connection with the disappearance of a German tourist in Cape Town has been postponed to next month.

While they were arrested with Nick Frischke’s belongings, the tourist remains missing.

He was last seen on Valentine's Day.

The five accused appeared virtually from Pollsmoor prison, where they are currently behind bars.

They have previously denied that they harmed Frischke.

They, however, admitted to robbing him while he was hiking on his own on the Hangberg trail in Hout Bay on Valentine's Day.

The accused have, in a previous court sitting, said that after robbing him, he ran away, and they fled in a different direction.

Among Frischke’s belongings found in their possession was a cellphone and backpack.

The matter will be heard again virtually on 22 June.

The family of German tourist Nick Frischke who went missing in the Hangberg area in Cape Town more than four months ago, celebrated his 23rd birthday this week.

Frischke was reported missing after setting off on a hike alone in Hangberg in February.

Frischke’s father, Andre Hallwaas told the Cape Times the family celebrated his birthday on Monday.

“On June 15th, Nick had already been missing for 4 months. On June 19th, he had his 23rd birthday. It was so sad and very emotional, there was a lot of crying. We would all have liked to say congratulations to him on his birthday.

“Now we wait for the hearing which is on Thursday again. We are sad, all this in one week is a lot for the soul,” the father said.

The case of the five suspects linked to the disappearance of a missing German tourist has been postponed.

According to the State, there's insufficient evidence available to continue with the matter.

The group appeared virtually in the Wyngerg Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Twenty-two-year-old German tourist, Nick Frischke, has been missing since 14 February.

The court postponed the matter to 11 July for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the Frischke’s family has reached out to civil rights organisation, Action Society, to assist with the investigation.

The five men accused of robbing missing German tourist Nick Frischke in February briefly appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court via video-link from Pollsmoor Prison on Tuesday.

Frischke from Brandenberg near Cottbus in Germany was robbed on 15 February, after he left his Airbnb in Pinelands.

Igshaan Fisher, Jason Abrahams, Vanroy Petersen, Carlo Guenantin and Melvin Guenantin appeared all smiles, waving and blowing kisses to the camera as Magistrate Goolam Bawa started court proceedings.

Bawa postponed the case until 28 July for a regional court date, much to the disappointment of the accused's family members, who packed the public gallery.

One of the accused, Fisher, raised his hand to speak to Bawa, demanding the court change his age on the charge sheet now that he has turned 21.

A smiling Bawa said: "You don't need to worry about that."

He then proceeded to wish Fisher a happy belated birthday.

"You are all to remain behind bars till your next appearance," Bawa added.

The mother of one of the accused, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the family was "so disappointed" the case was being prolonged.

"It's so disappointing. They must let them go so that the police can find the tourist. I don't understand why they are still keeping them in jail when they clearly don't know where [Frischke] is."

The State is considering charging the men accused of robbing German tourist Nick Frischke with murder - despite his body not yet being found.

Igshaan Fisher, Jason Abrahams, Vanroy Petersen, Carlo Guenantin and Melvin Guenantin appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court via video link from Pollsmoor Prison on Friday.

Currently charged with aggravated robbery and possession of a firearm, the main charge - murder - had not yet been added as, five months later, no remains have yet been found.

Initially scheduled for a regional court date to be ascertained, the case was instead postponed for further investigation upon the request of State advocate Brynmor Benjamin.

This, he explained, was necessary to confirm if there was sufficient evidence to charge the five with killing Frischke.

"There was a sequence of events that in the end led to the robbery and potential murder of the missing person. Ideally, we could want all these cases to run together," Benjamin said.

This group of criminals does seem ruthless. It is hard to assume anything but guilt, imo.

But the reporting is shy of specifics that might make the case strong enough to get murder charges.
Hopefully more comes out today.
