In the minority here, but glad Jason got bail. He needs time to be with his children, especially, to discuss their futures and for them to get some sort of closure from him.

Sounds like the ramblings of a bitter person with a grudge, to me.
Hlophe’s lawyers responded to the allegations by alleging that Goliath’s complaint was based on “gossip”.
"It appears that [Goliath's] complaint has nothing to do with judicial misconduct, but a series of gossips, rumour-mongering and information allegedly obtained from the grapevine," said attorney Barnabas Xulu.
... "It is unfortunate that the complaint, rather than raise legitimate issues that improve this performance, brings disrepute to the court. Our client will demonstrate ... that the complaint revealed a deeply worrying standard of judicial competence from a member of the bench in the position of the [deputy judge president].

Criminal charges have been withdrawn against Jolene Alterskye, former girlfriend of Jason Rohde.
She apologised for casting aspersions on the criminal justice system in handwritten letters to Judge Gayaat Salie-Hlope.
She had previously questioned the role played by the state in the conviction, and vented her disdain for the “so-called justice system”. However, in a letter dated May 8 and addressed to “Her Ladyship, the Honourable Justice Salie-Hlophe”, she apologised for the lack of judgment in her verbal attack on the judiciary.
Western Cape NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said the charges were withdrawn following the representations.

I can’t find any updates. Is Jason still out on bail pending an appeal that doesn’t seem to have even started? How insane to be a convicted murderer yet be free.

He’s still out on bail in Plettenberg Bay. Plett is basically a holiday destination. He should have been forced to stay in Joburg, after all that’s where his primary residence is. Instead he’s in a lovely seaside town. And Sue is still gone.
Is it unusual for a convicted murderer to be granted Bail? This, I understand, was so that business matters could be sorted. Surely this would be an unusual occurrence in itself. Is the Bail period open ended? Has anyone knowledge of when JR will be returned to prison to serve his sentence?

“The sentence of this court must reflect the abhorrence of society with regard to violence against women. Furthermore, it is very important to bear in mind that [Rohde] is unrepentant and takes no responsibility for his crimes.”
Rohde has seven days to report to the nearest correctional centre to start his 15-year prison sentence.

This one says he's got an appeal outstanding in the con. court.
"On Saturday morning, the convicted wife killer handed himself in at the Stellenbosch police station, after he was denied an extension to his bail conditions.
It's expected authorities will soon transport him to Drakenstein Prison where he’ll begin serving his 15-year sentence.
Following several appeal losses in the courts, Rohde will now have to wait behind bars before his last attempt at freedom is heard in the Constitutional Court."

That's weird because he was out on bail yet she says he was in prison.
But several media sources have confirmed he was turned down by the concourt.
Edited - ignore me, I've only just realised the article that said he had to hand himself in was dated November 2021. I wrongly assumed that him handing himself in had happened this past weekend when I saw your first post above.
