COURT: COMPENSATION FOR PARENTS AND BROTHER OF THE PILGRIM

The presiding judge of the popular jury who tried the murder case of the pilgrim Denise Pikka Thiem, has sentenced Miguel Ángel Muñoz Blas to 20 years in prison for a crime of assassination and three more years for a crime of violent robbery. He will also have to compensate the parents of the victim with 120,000 euros and 30,000 euros for the brother of the victim. This follows from the ruling of the sentencing made public today by the Provincial Court of León.
According to the sentencing, the judge declares proven that Denise Pikka Thiem died in the act due to "severe head trauma with destruction of vital neurological centers" caused by the blow from the convicted man who later buried and unearthed her when saw himself surrounded by the police siege.
The ruling dismisses that there was extreme cruelty although it indicates that the pilgrim had no opportunity to defend herself. The ruling neither admits the defense's claims about a mental disorder of Muñoz Blas that would have influence dthe crime.
