Sad news.
Respect to Spanish Guardia Civil for their exemplary skills and dogged hard work.

They found him!

Sail free now Jay, sounds like you were one in a million and somebody I would love to have known.

Rest in Peace.

My sincere condolences to all his family and his friends.
May Divine comfort surround and protect you all in the days ahead.

To the rest, I hold you in the same contempt I always did. The tabloids milked this for their own benefit and they are accountable for the additional pain and suffering they imposed upon a grieving family and heart broken friends.

I read elsewhere that his friends were putting out RIP messages the night before which is giving the conspiracists yet another reason to get excited.
I'm only rationalising it by suggesting that if that's the case, the helicopter team may not have had time to assemble and complete a difficult recvovery before dark.
I seem to recall a report that Jay's family were informed and given some time to process before news was released to the media

The almost inaccessible spot where he died is only a few hundred yards from areas which were repeatedly searched for almost a month by police, volunteers and members of his family after his disappearance on June 17.
Jay Slater was found dead at around 10am on Monday July 15 after almost a month of searching by Spanish authorities

The Civil Guard in Tenerife confirmed today the missing man’s body found in a ravine near the village of Masca was his and said everything was pointing to him dying in an accidental fall. They also said his injuries had included broken bones in a statement released shortly after court officials also revealed Jay’s identity had been confirmed through fingerprints after initially claiming full identification wouldn’t happen till “next week” because the body was “very deteriorated.”

The question of whether police now have a watch the 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer reportedly confessed to stealing from a reveller during an altercation outside Papagayo Beach Club near his holiday accommodation, remained unanswered last night.
Seems to me he seen the sea from the Airbnb and thought he could get there as the crow flies without realising the mountain was not a linear decline

I wonder if they are not disclosing the location of where he was found because there ‘may’ be an expensive watch nearby and they don’t want people going down searching for it and having further accidents. JMO.
Or ghouls who want to visit the spot he perished. The teams don't want to have to rescue anyone else because some idiots engage in dark tourism imo

The authorities put limits of tourists going there
and they must pay tourist tax.

Teno Rural Park is Special Nature Reserve.

It must be protected.

(As was reported in these threads)

Seems Ayub qassim spent some time searching for jay too .Why do the media print these positive posts as an after thought surely it would have quelled some of the speculation

Screenshot_20240717_002815_Chrome.jpgin this article in The mirror, article titled inside" rugged dangerous ravine ' there is a link if anyone wishes to leave a condolence to jay and his family, I personally won't be as jay wasn't personally known to me but some people like to leave words of kindness

Hi Dotta my response was to a poster who suggested /questioned as to whether the spot that Jay's remains were found, if exact location was being concealed from the public due to the possibility of a rolex laying about and I was suggesting that prehaps the authorities don't want any other injuries or fatalities so would prefer not to reveal location rather than it being for fear of people looking for an expensive watch ,Sorry I didn't explain in previous post when I was suggesting dark tourism as a reasoning i know these type of tragedies attract all sorts of ghouls unfortunately .Thank you for posting the most obvious reason being that it is a protected nature reserve

Spanish authorities will conclude autopsy next week, including DNA evidence.

Mam must make her decision. Not sure if this is even possible due to decay. I hope she doesnt

Would have hoped that LBT would not have released this info, intensely private and personal

Absolutely heartbreaking for her. Having lost a baby son myself (not in the same circumstances), I can totally understand the need for wanting to see him again. But as you say it will be very difficult and perhaps not a very nice last memory. JMO.
My brother died of a heart attack on mainland Spain . He was in a temperature controlled environment before being flown home 18 days later . After requesting an open coffin , my SIL was advised STRONGLY not to see my Bro . Although heartbroken she did heed these warnings thankfully . I'd like to add there was a strong odour from the closed coffin .
Jay was in the elements with high temps. Last memories shouldn't be shocking , awful or hurtful . It's a memory that will last forever.

"Dangerous ravine

where Jay Slater's body was found

holds secret that could have proved deadly.

Barely a mile from where his phone last pinged a nearby mobile phone tower,
the surrounding area is deemed a rugged and dangerous place to hike.

Dwarfed by gigantic rocky peaks either side of the valley,
it has an inviting view of the sea,
which is something locals believe
may have tempted
19-year-old Jay,
who told a friend he was badly lost,
to walk towards.
The real mystery remains exactly why Jay was walking in the area in the first place,
according to local Helena Gomes, 35.

But she says
its beauty continues to entice tourists.

She said:

'You see how bad it is,
we don’t even walk there,
so if someone gets into trouble it is going to be hard for anyone to find the body.

No one is surprised it took so long,
why he was there is a mystery,
he should never have been going that way,

maybe he saw the ocean and thought it was the best way.

We just feel so bad for his family

but are so proud of the searchers who found him,

they never gave up'.”

I'm sitting on the other side of the world, yet have nice tools at my disposal :) I post up here some screenshots of what I believe to be the region, and general path, J went down. I think the map on the DM isn't quite accurate, and have included that same map here with what I think may have been J's actual route marked in blue.

Think you may be right with your blue route, looks like he may have strayed onto the "challenging" Barranco trail

There's an account by some people who made the descent here -> Barranco Juan López - Teno Mountains - Tenerife | SiebenInseln- with photos, which show that, even if Jay had made it down to the sea, there's nothing there other than a lonely little rocky beach!

"Heart-breaking tributes

left by Jay Slater's family.

Jay Slater's mum, brother and dad
have left heart-breaking tributes to the youngster
near the place where his body was found.

Mr Slater's mother, Debbie Duncan, wrote:

'To my beautiful boy.
I'm so sorry we never found you.
I miss you so much.
You will be forever young and forever missed.
Love you so much,
Mum'.

Brother Zak wrote:
'Love you little bro.
Never in a million years did I think I'd be doing this.
I'll look after mum and dad.
Hope you're partying up there with Grandad.
Hope to see you again some day.
Rest easy bro.
I love you.
Zak'.

Your post made me wonder, possibly he thought he was actually on Masca trail, that does go down to Masca beach? He appears to have been one ravine over from that.

Post mortems in the UK

In England and Wales, a coroner, or in Scotland the Procurator Fiscal or Death Service Certification Service, may carry out another post mortem examination if the person’s body is returned to the UK.

If you are due to repatriate a body back to the UK, please speak to your International Funeral Director or your local authority for more information regarding the coronial inquest process in the UK. Bodies usually need to be embalmed before they are brought back to the UK. The embalming process means that a further post mortem in the UK may not be able to find out any more information on the cause of death.
Yes, this is quite standard. More often than not, bodies repatriated after death abroad are typically subjected to a second autopsy, especially so in circumstances where the autopsy report furnished may be at question or could be due to an order from the courts, a request from surviving family, or for insurance claim reasons.
