Me too!

Thank you 123spain for the explanation! Do you know if they have reached the bottom now and started the horizontal dig? They should have, according to my understanding. They have been digging for about 28 hours now. Do you know?

The last info is they reached 45 meters, and they hope to reach 60 tonight. At that point they will start the horizontal tunel that is probably going to be even more complicated.

Only 5 meters in the last 7 hours, they hope to start the horizontal tunel first hours of monday morning.

Sorry if this has been answered, but what makes the rescue team believe he survived a fall of that depth, does the angle of the well allow for more of a slide than a drop?

Good question. Maybe because the well is so narrow - 10 inches wide - and it would be more like a stop and go, not a free fall gathering speed?

I wonder why they estimated 15 hours for the whole 60m at first. It now turns out not only to be a little but wildly inaccurate. They must have known that there are hard rocks, from the georadar data provided. I'm getting to the point where I don't believe any of the official statements anymore. o_O

I don't think they have a reason to believe that. I think they just aren't willing to give up unless they can prove he's not alive.

I don't see any way he wouldn't be suffering if he survived the drop.

At least he'd be horribly scraped up, soaking wet, cold and hungry. More than likely he'd had broken bones and/or internal injuries. It's given me nightmares to think about. :(

Yes, it’s just horrible isn’t it, poor little boy, poor parents waiting to hear of his condition.

So Tuesday at the earliest, likely Wednesday in Spain. I want a miracle for this family so badly I can hardly stand it.

I wish there was a faster way they could have gotten him out. It's going to be horrific when they bring him out. I'm sure they will want to see him but unlike Oliver he didn't simply die.

I can't blame the grandma for losing her faith. I'm sure I would too.

Image of the excavation area of the rescue pit that runs a few meters from the narrowest one, on the right, where the small one fell. :(

Una zona de roca muy dura vuelve a ralentizar la perforación, que llega a los 52 metros

The eight days of work in the search for Julen have developed in constant tension, challenge to challenge . The drawbacks have been happening in all planes: technical, logistical and geological. However, the biggest challenge is still to come and will fall on the shoulders of the eight specialists of the Mining Rescue Brigade of Asturias , available to the operation from the first days. Its horizontal access through a three meter gallery to the stopper where the child can be found will be the most risky phase of the entire deployment, but they will not be alone.

Así actuarán los mineros asturianos
