Rescate means rescue, so that is the word they are using.

I think they are electing to use "rescue" so as not to dampen the enthusiasm on the search for Julen, both in the public mind and in the hearts of all concerned with the digging efforts. It may be policy to be optimistic in all news releases. No harm in that; it may be part of their lovely national character.

When I see rescue in this case I think of it as rescuing his body. Also this case could bring criminal charges of some sort so the miners will also be "rescuing" evidence.

Do we have any idea how Julens hair was found? I am curious how in a massive hole they managed to find a strand of hair. It's not like they had forensic officers down there. I wonder if they know his body is there from what they saw on cameras and the hair came from him rather than it being a detached hair but they won't confirm this to the public. This could be why I think something is "off" in this case.

That is a nice thought

They are creating a platform near the entry of the well for safety reasons. They do this by raising the ground level around it. So what you are seeing is: they are excavating on both sides of the well (as you said) and then bring it close to the entry of the well. #Totalan #Julen

“Another 12 meters of tubing were added this morning, ahead of specialist miners from the Hunosa Mining Rescue Brigade traveling down the tunnel in a metal capsule to begin excavating by hand a four-meter gallery to connect to the borehole – considered the most dangerous part of the operation. The extra tubing has been left above ground, and is designed to protect the miners from possible landslides in the work area.

Miners arrived at the site this morning and are now getting ready to be lowered in teams of two to start digging the gallery, a laborious task that will performed in 40- to 60-minute shifts to prevent fatigue and which is expected to take around 24 hours, according to Ángel García Vidal, the engineer who is supervising the technical work.”

I read that the bit of hair was found by the bag of candy, sadly enough.

That is very concerning as well as the news of the previous child not making it. Lets hope investigators are doing a thorough job.

Lets hope today the workers can get the boy out of that well today. And people are right that they are probably taking great care to document the exact condition of when they ultimately find the boy.

Went to bed last night having thoughts of what it must be like for the workers. It has to be an upsetting time for these workers and especially the ones that will make the ultimate recovery. They of course are not used to this and some may have children of their own.

Prayers for all of the workers.

The excavating land work is also amazing.

If anyone has ever had dirt brought into their yards to fill up a low spot then you get a feel for how incredibly hard it is to move the amount of dirt they are moving. They are moving small mountains today and changing the earth's surface to something it wasn't. Just amazing and lots of hard work.

I wonder if they found a small chunk of hair. if he fell down, I wouldn't be surprised if he bumped his head and a bit of skin/hair scrapped on the side.
eta: had to fix the layout
