State Motion to recover Investigative Costs

That's not even possible if people don't pay Casey bunches of money. But that in itself is something that many people here are hoping and praying never happens.

It's an odd dilemma for folks wishing every possible harm brought to Casey.

If you want everybody to recoup their expenses, then you better hope that Casey earns big bucks and try to dissuade the actions of those who are working to prevent that (letters to media and boycott threats, etc).
I think a financial award to the State would satisfy many...whether or not she receives a dime...I'd be happy if they could garnish her wages if she's working at Target.

No. All of that money was given to Baez even before she was charged with murder for attorney fees. That was discussed in court when JS still had the case. There was a lot more money contributed to her defense in addition to that from TM and AL, etc. They had to give an accounting for the funds.
Interestingly enough, JP made mention of "$200,000" today...what media was willing to pay for "videotapes". Wondered if he referenced that for a reason.

In trial, her defense was that the child was dead from the start, and she knew where the body was from day one. BUT SHE SENT INVESTIGATORS ON WILD GOOSE CHASES, willfully and purposely, she wasted millions of dollars.

The bolded part... I never heard that in the trial. Can anyone confirm that the defense stated that Casey knew where the body was located?

Good for them....I hope they get every single penny they spent.

Okay, maybe under the defense team's preposterous theory she didn't know.

The 4 counts of lying to LE had nothing to do with the location. They were about working at Universal, dropping Caylee with ZFG, asking Jeff and Juliette for help, and receiving a phone call from Caylee on July 15.

LE had to run down all of those things and a million million more. If she hadn't lied, they could have pressured GA and HE would have been the one on the hook for the $$$. But she didn't. I would submit that, had she told the entire truth on July 16, Caylee would have been found within days and saved tons of time and money.

The defense said that Caylee drowned in the pool. Then George found her there. Casey went to the backyard and saw her dead child.Hence at that time Casey knew where Caylee's dead body was located.

The latest rough figures I heard were 90K prosecution, no costs yet from Orange County, No costs yet from the Metro Investigative Agency(can't remember name) No costs yet from the FBI. They figure perhaps in the area of 300K for these agencies with all of the overtime. Then it was 340K for the hotel and meals for the jurors. Then it was costs to pay for her Attorney costs and experts.

Half a million is the number I heard earlier today..... rough guess. And we don't know what will be allowed to be assessed and what not.

Context.

Look at what katydid23 wrote. It implies that the defense said that Casey knew Caylee was in the swamp.

Doesn't need to be confirmed that she knew where the body was, just that she knew she was dead on June 16, 2008 and, according to the DT's OS, she did.

I did look. Katydid23 didn't mention the swamp and her context was about the state recovering costs of investigating a missing child when the mother knew she was dead.

She's only liable for the costs associated with the 4 counts of lying to LE. Anything associated with the 3 murder counts she isn't liable for.

They were pretty quick to move to a murder investigation. Her liabilities will be way less than for the total package.

I'm not sure that is true. She created this trial by her lies. I guess we will know in a few weeks.

What I have stated here came from the mouth of an Attorney on the news today. I have no inside information. But I believe from what he said, she can be assessed for all charges for the trial according to him.

Note the bolding. "From day one" means that she knew where the body was on the day of death and afterwards. That means the pool and then the swamp.

The issue is that the defense (and presumably Casey too) never said that Casey knew where the body ended up after the drowning. That was a George/Kronk thing. They argued that there wasn't a body in the trunk because Casey didn't put dead Caylee in the trunk. They argued that dried leaves stuck to the car didn't match the swamp site because Casey didn't put Caylee in the swamp... somebody else did.

HERE is the context. The investigators were looking for a LIVE Caylee and they were looking for the nanny. AND ALL OF THAT TIME CASEY KNEW THE BABY WAS DEAD AND GONE.

It's been asked and answered in our Lawyers thread. She is liable only for the counts that she was found guilty.

Could you imagine if everybody that was found not guilty had to pay for all court costs and investigation? Whoa!

IT DOES NOT MATTER one way or the other though. No matter if she knew where the baby was dumped or not, the state was still being lied to and was searching for the nanny and a living child.

I was going on the fact that the DT stated that she was holding the dead child in her arms on the 16th. And they told us NOTHING about what happened later.

But that does not affect the motion the state is making to sue her for the costs that they accrued because of her LIES. Whether she knew or didn't know where the body was, she DID know she was dead already.

{ although I am sure she did know unless she blacked it out somehow.]

She is liable for the costs of the OCSO search for a live Caylee. That didn't last very long for OCSO because of the car stench and cadaver dog alerts.

But the OCSO search for a dead Caylee is something she isn't liable for because that is the investigation of counts 1, 2 & 3 of which she was found not guilty. Presumably, even if she had told LE "what happened" she would have said that Caylee drowned in the pool but she doesn't know where her dad put the body. LE would still be holding her for murder. Then if they somehow did find the body, they would still proceed with murder charges against her.

Thank you. I knew what you meant. I think we will all see people taking posts and twisting them a little. I don't know why.

From the moment she is given her Miranda rights she can shut her mouth no matter what she knows.
