AHHHHH. Okay. front door only. He (defense attorney) was focused on that side door and whether or not there was a garbage bin there for the smokers. The clerk said he didn't know...only knew about one near the front door.

All the focus on that side door and then "isn't there a sign on that door that it is locked from 11pm to 6am?" Got me confused. I thought they were still talking about the side door.

The policy is all doors are unlocked from 6 -> 11. This would make sense as to how JY got back into the hotel.

Actually, the problem is for the defense

1- seen on video leaving at midnight with 2 bottles of water, gloves , newspaper , heavy pullover (clothes never recovered).
2- Defense says he went out to get papers in is car and smoke a cigar
3- Ok, he would have walked back in by 12:15AM to go back to his room (no room key card activity, but we will forget that for now)

Where is the video of him coming back in the stairwell around 12:15am?
Well, there is none because he was on the way to Raleigh at that time and JLY unplugged the camera earlier, at 11:20PM...

I imagine the problem is on both sides. Because there should be some video of him re-entering the hotel that morning and later leaving.

Maint. guy is old. Really old, it seems. I hope he lives long enough to make it through the afternoon.

1st thing he said was all doors except the front were locked 24/7.

Again, I just called that Hampton Inn (276) 728-2345. The woman at the front desk said the side door is unlocked from 6 am until 11 pm. She said all doors were unlocked.

Why do you keep saying this?
He turned the camera up (from behind) as he came back in the side door

Maybe because I'm confused about what happened. Is this a different camera from the one that he unplugged when he left?

Well, the witness lied then...he said they were locked 24/7
Always my experience at the HI's I stay as well

Same camera

Camera unplugged at 11:20 PM......5:50AM...camera plugged back in...20 minutes(6:10AM) later after plugging back in....camera then pushed up to ceiling...Jay would have arrived from King NC about that time

I'm not sure what the heck we are arguing about,or why we are arguing. I thought I heard him say on cross that all the doors were unlocked during the day.

They may have changed their policy. Remember, this crime happened in 2006! TODAY they might unlock all doors. In 2006 it might have been a different deal.

So if the theory is that someone went out that door, which is how he got in....then shouldn't there be video of someone leaving and a minute or so later, the camera angle pointing to the ceiling? They should be able to say exactly when that camera angle changed since it was recording (at least I think it was). That should really help with the timeline.

It wouldn't matter - the door JY went out, where this camera was, was an emergency exit - can only been opened from the inside. Requires a master key, not a room key/card to get back in. Thus the rock.
