Still missing.

Well...despite the consideration that Sunny might be in an enclosure with the zoo's lions and tigers and bears...oh my...I'm hopeful that perhaps she's not on the streets of Norfolk somewhere in traffic, etc.

"Newport News Sheriff's K-9's searched inside and around the zoo Thursday.
Based on their discovery, zoo staff believes Sunny is still inside the zoo but are still asking people to be on the lookout."

Hopefully she's still on site at the zoo somewhere. I suspect they're are lots of places to hide there for a savvy little red panda, especially since they sleep during the day and are active at night. #FindSunny

As much as this thread and the responses make me giggle, I really hope they trust she is still within the zoo boundaries and will be found soon! The wilderness of Virginia is no place for a red panda I hope they've pulled the surveillance video!

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The staff of the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk is still searching for their missing red panda, Sunny — and is inviting members of the public to join in on the search.

In a tweet Thursday morning, Zoo officials asked members of the public to meet at the Elephant Statue at the zoo entrance at 1 p.m. to search neighborhoods.

The Newport News Sheriff’s Office is lending two bloodhounds to the zoo to help in the search as well.

“The dogs don’t give me any indication that the panda has left,” said Tommy Blyth, a Newport News sheriff’s deputy who used two trained search dogs to sniff out her trail Thursday.

One of the dogs, Blyth said, was a Sheriff’s Office bloodhound named Cooper who specialized in tracking people. The other dog, a mastiff mix named Bear, is Blyth’s own dog who tracks pets.

“Even though the red panda is not a dog, it’s far more similar than a human would be to sniff out,” Bockheim said.

... the sniffing campaign has zeroed in on an exhibit known as Asia – The Trail of The Tiger.

The search would extend into the weekend if Sunny isn’t found soon.

The zoo is asking anyone who spots Sunny to immediately call its hotline at 757-777-7899.

Volunteers and staff spent about an hour searching Friday morning with the help of a drone – until it came crashing down, bringing the search from the air to a halt.

The drone footage is under review.

oh no! Red Pandas are my absolute favourite animal. Hard to see in Australia but i did travel to Australia Zoo to have a red panda encounter a few years ago and got to feed it and pet it. so cute! I hope Sunny is found safe!!
