Ok, I was just made aware that the authorities stopped searching the landfill. It was for the laptop, right? Not a cellphone? Wouldn't a laptop have some kind of GPS in it? I thought newer models did, as an anti theft mechanism. If so, that could explain how they were able to search a specific area of the landfill. Maybe?

this report says they were looking for "everything imaginable". Other reports seem to indicate the laptop was the main item being searched for.

Still reading, thanks. And it's definitely getting complex.

Make sure to visit some of the translated links as well. There's alot more, I just didnt post them & went from the original link supplied instead. I forget who gave it first but it wasn't me, I just rolled off of it. Some interesting stuff.

Saw something on CNN that said Russian authorities detained & arrested 100+ people in a Northern Caucuses mosque (either yesterday or today) that they suspect are radical Islamic such & such. They were leaning toward terroristic ties but didnt know if they were linked with Boston, said as of now there's no link. Worth mentioning.

Anybody know if they were able to obtain Dzhokhar's deleted Instagram stuff? I can still see some of the things he liked through google cache, which is what news agencies used. Several Chechen rebel stuff.

Just to keep updated I found this article. I'm still trying to sift through all the reports.

From the Boston Globe, sorry if it's already been posted, work keeps me reading sporadically.

WASHINGTON — Terrorist groups in the Northern Caucasus pose little immediate threat to the United States, harboring most of their ill will for Russia.

But some Islamist radicals there — especially in the province of Dagestan, where one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, spent half of last year — may be indoctrinating followers to take up a global struggle against the West, specialists told a congressional panel on Friday.

The testimony before a subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, the first since the deadly April 15 attacks, touched on the potential for attacks by militants drawn to the United States from the wider Islamic world, not just Pakistan, Afghanistan, or the Middle East.

This Jamestown Foundation Seminar in Russia 2012:
Will be interesting to see how one learns of such seminars, if it is by invitation only or if it is open to the public. Reports earlier today stated that when he first went to Russia he stayed in Moscow. Family members there said they were concerned about his leanings toward extremism. Perhaps he didn't like the philosophy of what he was hearing re: the seminar or he heard what he considered hypocrisy

From what I can tell, this group (the JF) says they are on the side of human rights and those fighting against an oppressive regime. But they do not support the extremists or radicals. A fine line or tightrope to walk with easily influenced and displaced young men who may feel like outsiders.

When the mother first started ranting, I posted about how the family may have first been given asylum in the US. I suggested that she, not necessarily the father, may have had mixed feelings from the start or even an ulterior motive in coming here. Last night I hinted that our "boys" in Mclean, VA may have hitched their horse to the wrong wagon. Tonight, it seems that maybe the deal the family got when they first arrived here sounded sweeter than it turned out to be. Now it appears that, in their own way, each and every one of the T family has rebelled. The kids with drugs and domestic violence, the Dad just "giving up" and leaving and Mom turning her kids away from working for the US cause and back toward working for, who she believes, are "their own."

Remember, she said that the reason they had to come here in the first place was because her husband, AT, had done something in Russia. He, in his first interview, discussed how the family had to keep moving because (paraphrased) they were being hunted down. He initially came here with only DT. The mother, TT, Alina & Bella would follow within a year. Remember also that Dad arrived here in 2001. That could be very significant.

Also NOTE: When I was searching Russian articles yesterday, Tsarnaev & Tsarnaeva were spelled various different ways than the ones we've seen printed here in the US. I saw it with an i and a y before the v, etc. might try to search those names out again. Maybe get lucky & something will pop up.

shout out to Boston tonight at WH correspondents' dinner: the prez said when we hear nowadays that newspapers are a thing of the past, all we have to do is look at a newspaper like the Boston Globe to realize that it isn't true (and IMO they were so good recently to offer their online content free of charge)

Warning to everyone: Press TV is an Iranian owned "news outlet" with an anti Israel agenda. NOT reliable.

But if Dzhokhar did in fact have student loans, how did he get approved for funding without a solid income & proven work ethic? Or is there work experience we're missing? Could he have credit? His parents co-sign? I'd think he'd be eligible for financial aid, especially when his family were welfare recipients. Maybe? Dzhokhar was a member of the NHS, so maybe that classified him higher?

you don't need credit/income/job etc for federal loans. they are income based and subsidized and guaranteed.

Did one of us use something or quote something from there?

I don't think he did have student loans. Quite frankly I doubt they'd want to pay back loans.

I don't think it matters if he did or not. The point is, UMASS is a state school and not expensive in comparison to private schools. that's not to say they didn't spend their money on unjustified things, and that they didn't get their money in unjustified ways.
