Dr Hoskins says it should be sufficiently obvious to everybody that the largest abrasion has a "raggedy" edge. #badenclay

Dr Hoskins says the smallest abrasion has a curved appearance. It's non linear. #badenclay

Dr Hoskins says abrasions have the characteristics of fingernail scratches. Ragged, the right size and approximately parallel. #badenclay

Dr Hoskins says he is unable to exclude other possibilities. #badenclay http://bit.ly/1qfaBUn

Dr Hoskins is being shown a photograph of Gerard's razor. #badenclay

Dr Hoskins when asked if the razor could have caused the injuries: I find it extremely implausible. #badenclay

Dr Hoskins says we are looking at a device that is designed to prevent such injuries. #badenclay http://bit.ly/1qfaBUn

That's why they are called safety razors.

10:33am: Dr Hoskins described the three clear abrasions on Mr Baden-Clay's face as "non-linear" and "ragged".

He said the abrasions were characteristic of fingernail scratches.

"The thing that springs to my mind is that those injuries are characteristic of fingernail scratches," he said.

"That's what we see when people are scratched with fingernails, [but] it doesn't absolutely exclude alternative explanations."

IIRC an old member Hawkins, said that we would all be very surprised by what would come out? I think is need to go back and read all of his posts. Please come back Hawkins! Why did you leave us??

Dr Hoskins says the smaller scratches have "fresher dried blood" in them. #badenclay

Dr Hoskins says the smaller scratches underneath the large abrasions could have been caused by the razor. #badenclay

Dr Hoskins says the smaller scratches appear to have been caused after the large abrasions. #badenclay http://bit.ly/1qfaBUn

Dr Hoskins says the smaller injuries to left of larger abrasions 'certainly have capacity' to be caused by razor. #badenclay @7NewsBrisbane

David Murray ‏@TheMurrayD 2m

Gerard's broader injuries more likely to have been caused earlier than thinner ones - Dr Hoskins #badenclay

That's sad, it sounds like Allison got some really good scratches in at first, then made a second weaker attempt to claw at his face :(

OR .. did he do the second ones with a razor hoping to cover up the ones Allison did?

Kate Kyriacou ‏@KateKyriacou

Dr Hoskins says the larger injuries likely happened between 6 and 24 hours before the photograph was taken. #badenclay

Dr Hoskins says the smaller scratches likely happened less than six hours before the photograph was taken. #badenclay

So interesting! Maybe thats what happens when you're trying to shave around bigger jagged scratches - could have even been deliberately self inflicted to try and camouflage the bigger scratches.

10:40am: Dr Hoskins said he would accept that a branch or twig could have caused such injuries.

He said a photograph of the razor with which Mr Baden-Clay claimed to have cut himself with was "extremely important" in his assessment of the injuries.

"Firstly, this is a device that has been designed over a number of decades to prevent injury," he said.

I think that's more like it......the smaller scratches were inflicted around 7-18 hours after the larger ones according to Dr Hoskins.

The court is now being shown a photograph of the marks on Gerard's chest. #badenclay

Dr Hoskins says there are marks above Gerard's right arm pit, on the left hand side of his chest and at the base of his neck. #badenclay

I think Mrs G what Hoskins was trying to say (or at least hint at) although the prosecution did not draw it out, is that the newer scratches may indeed have been self inflicted and may have been a further attempt by <modsnip> to cover up the fingernail gouges that Allison left. All MOO of course.

I am sure if he tried he would have wimped out pretty well straight away as that must have been painful. Not painful enough IMOO

Dr Hoskins says there are two, possibly three marks at the base of Gerard's neck. The marks are parallel, top to bottom or bottom to top.

Dr Hoskins says the marks on the neck could be explained as scratches through clothing. Other causes can't be ruled out. #badenclay

Folks please watch the name calling/name variations. It's not allowed.

Dr Hoskins says they don't seem to be from "repeated scratching". #badenclay

Dr Hoskins is now commenting on the injury to the left hand side of Gerard's chest.#badenclay

Dr Hoskins says they have two features. Some bruising and superficial scratching, red marks. #badenclay http://bit.ly/1qfaBUn

Dr Hoskins says there is nothing that immediately leaps into his mind to say what caused it. #badenclay

Dr Hoskins says the marks appear to be in different directions. "I emphasise 'appear to be'." #badenclay

Oh this huge chest graze is really interesting .. looking forward to hearing what the doctor thinks there ..

Im still under the impression that the face scratches are a combination of nails - foliage - face and chest.
I noticed in the photos where he hadnt shaved close enough to the bigger scratch marks and the facial hair was longer around these where he missed shaving.
