I agree, Jeanna. I am sure they felt obligated to the media since they have done so much for C and her family by keeping the story out there.

I remember once Shasta was released from the hospital she was there with her daddy when they were being interviewed.

I think families in these situations knows how much the media can help in cases like this, and are very thankful. I also agree, now that they have their interview they will most likely go away, and let C, and her family have the privacy they deserve.

But whether they wanted them there are not it wouldn't stop the media from getting shots of C returning home.

I think doing the video is similiar to celebrities who release baby photos to magazines. They know that they can even choose to release the photos/videos on their own terms, or let the media go to to any lenghs to get them.

There is a certain entitlement that many folks feel in which they want every.last.detail of a situation they followed in the news.

Little girl was taken and is finally found and is okay? Her abductor, a fellow family member is tucked away in jail with no chance at making bail? Excellent. NowTellUsMoreAndIMeanEverything!

Hell hath no fury like a curious public who are feeling left out. Speculation/rumor continue unabated because that's what (many) people do. 'Gladys Kravitz' wasn't just a character on "Bewitched," afterall. She was an amalgamation of a common type seen everywhere.

I think people are defending Simpson because they are in denial and want a "happy" missing child story. Since LE hasn't said that C was assaulted yet, and there's been no charges regarding it, people are choosing to believe that she wasn't. It's like when a child is missing and people say they hope/think they were taken by someone who really wanted to raise a child, and not some pervert who wants a sex slave. When the charges are filed, and I expect they will be, I doubt we will see many defenders left. And while I agree with everyone who says that even if C was not physically or sexually abused, she stil suffered tremendeously, I feel like most people commenting on news articles don't care about that. By that, I mean, in almost every missing child case, the child is either murdered and/or sexually assaulted so there's a case where neither of that happened, they are going to extremely gloss over any emotional abuse she went through.

I have to tell you that this is the first major case (of any sort) that I have followed exclusively via Websleuths. I heard one report about the TN kidnapping on WWJ radio (CBS, Detroit) and saw a brief mention of the case on NBC Nightly News. Beyond that, there was no national coverage (all politics, all the time) and local media didn't cover the case. Seems NG discussed the case, but I rarely watch anything on HLN. Anyhoo, just wanted to :tyou: for continuing coverage on the case. I am glad this child was located and hope she will be returned to those who love and care for her.

This is where I get my news from: Gawker.com, CNN.com, dailymail.com.

I know Gawker never mentioned the case. I only saw it on CNN after C was found. I haven't read Daily Mail since Cwas found but I would check it periodically throughout the week during work, go through the entire website, and saw nothing about it. If it was there, it didn't catch my eye.

When Hannah Anderson was found, the press conference was shown on multiple national news channels. I don't think that happened here.

I have a theory that the national media isn't as interested in missing children as they used to be...Not sure if this case would back it up, or if it's just because it's too close to the election. It's not just this case either. Maybe the national media just saw it as a custody battle?

<modsnip>
At this point, I think they don't expect to charge him with anymore than the kidnapping, which will land him in prison for the rest of his life anyway.

That's not hard to prove. Anyone can look at that evidence in 5 minutes and say yep, he did that, for sure.

All the rest is maybe stuff they don't want to drag anyone through and would have to be proven through medical evidence and testimony and is not necessary to achieve the goal of putting him behind bars.

I believe in evidence. If you have evidence that she was sexually assaulted, I would be interested in hearing it. If you don’t have evidence, I’ll wait and get the evidence from the trial. But your opinion based on no evidence, probably won’t change my mind.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, this is not a court of law, this is a discussion forum...it is okay to agree to disagree. (IMO)

I respect that Carpenter was out physically searching along with his friends. I really don't care if he was there at the moment CT was found and am confused why anyone else does. He was part of a group of friends who were regularly out searching and members of his group found this young lady alive. Whether he happened to be present at the moment makes not a whit of difference to me.

He was a community member among many and those searches by those close to home are what yielded results.

Like him or don't. Appreciate him giving interviews or not.

Please don't make this about him.

The villain is a man who kidnapped a child and held her from her family and authorities for over a week. His name is Gary Simpson.

I'm glad you're here. I was just looking through thread 2 for a post IIRC was yours. It was from the presser PRIOR to her being found. LE or TBI said (*paraphrasing) Simpson has NOT taken her to protect her or save her from anything. He is not helping her by taking her. It's in a long post with bullet points from the presser. Might stop a lot of tit for tat going on in the thread ! :twocents:

In the grand scheme of things, big deal about this guy! The "bigger" deal is G.A.R.Y. S.I.M.P.S.O.N. - the one who deviously kidnapped CT and held her captive for 8 days...
(reality check)
Thank you for not using his initials!!!:clap::clap: He deserves no privacy.

Thank you. Yes, they made it abundantly 100% clear to not waste any sympathy on the suspect and to do so is insulting to C. All the sympathy should go to CT and her family, friends, period.

It is obvious the police know much more than they are going to make public about this suspect. They will not come out, and say what happened to CT, and they shouldn't. That is one of the reasons I think the additional charges the TBI Director talked about will be done much later. That way she will have some time to heal, and being with her daddy and sister will also help just like it did Shasta when she went home with Steve. I imagine they will get her into some kind of therapy pretty quickly. She has gone through a lot being ripped away from her family for 8 days and being lied to by her offender.

Another thing bothers me greatly. He bought her a skimpy bikini, but they weren't found anywhere around a lake or the beach. :(

In fact if the additional charges do come, and I think they will, I wish there was someway those charges could remain sealed to protect C. It will be bad enough on her at trial since she will be the star witness in the case against him. However; I have seen young children who had to testify against their offender do an amazing job while they are on the stand. Like I said earlier, young children are very resilient so they are open and honest when asked questions.

I saw one case years ago where a very young girl (6-7 years old) testified against the stranger that came into their home and raped/murdered her mommy and raped her too and tried to kill her also by slitting her throat leaving her for dead. The DA did not have her testifying in the main courtroom with the suspect, but she was on closed circuit tv in another room, and they had her face blurred. She did a masterful job, and her little voice didn't even sound like she was frightened having to testify. She sounded strong, and committed to bringing justice to her mom, and for what he had done to her too. Iirc, he received the death penalty.

Children, even though young.... can be some of the most courageous individuals ever when testifying in court. I think C will be one of those courageous young heroes too.

This article says a reporter was allowed to record the reunion of C and her family.....

The aunt talked and talked and talked throughout. Dad expressed confusion and fear, once, early on, then asked for privacy (off camera) upon CT's return.

Family is a loose term, and can be applied to a single member of same. One who perhaps feels differently about media because the is her husband, and she has a message she wants made public?

No, actually I learned about this case from Facebook, then I found out there was a WS thread on it. Many times I am alerted to national news stories by Facebook.
I also learn about alot of cases through Dateline/48 Hours/20/20. Then I get interested in those particular cases because I know something about them. Other cases interest me because they are local, or I have something in common with them.

I know you know "" is the term I routinely use to express supreme contempt, not to protect those who forfeited their right to be treated with dignity, having acted to deprive another of that and so much more.

The bikini. The pink folding chair. Not a lot of food. The rescuers saying it looked like the may have been ready to leave that location.

Maybe he'd planned for that location to be temporary, thinking he'd move on after the initial furor, but the constant presence of searchers in the area pinned him down?

(Kind of like what happened to the 2 prisoners who escaped (last year?) from an upstate NY prison into the deep woods , dotted with vacant trailers and hunting camps).

I never saw it trending on my FB until C was found, which is surprising because I normally get a lot of headlines about missing kids. I actually heard that FB does that on purpose to raise awareness for them.

RSBM. This is the one object that really stands out for me too. IMO there is only one reason GARY SIMPSON bought that.

CT is home where she belongs and I hope over time and with support she will be ok. She seems such a delightful young darling. I'm glad she will get to grow up.

Three words: very, poor, planning.

I wonder if it was just a spur of the moment decision. Maybe he just decided to do it that morning. Then went shopping, grabbing whatever items he thought they might need.
