Details from toddler's death scene may lead to killer, says panel of investigators
[...]

"We can learn, fortunately, a lot about the nature of the person that did this," he observed, "because it goes to this idea of callousness that you could take this fragile little creature and that you could do this. It points in a specific investigative direction."

[...]

"It limits who your pool of who you think is the killer -- that the body is right there on the family property. And coincidentally, this grandfather is the one... that first reported her missing," she added.

[...]

Psychoanalyst Dr. Bethany Marshall said that the location of the child's remains may also indicate something about the killer's relationship to the property owner.

[...]

"And interestingly enough, the dumping ground, the disposal site for the baby and the baby's belongings was on the very property of the person who reported her missing -- the grandfather. What does that say about the relationship between the perpetrator and the grandfather?

"You know, 'Here you can have her.'" said Marshall, imitating a potential killer's frame of mind. "'I'm going to dump her on your property. You could have all our toys and goods too.'"

Evelyn Boswell: Friend says mom of deceased tot ‘wet the bed,’ panicked as police searched grandfather’s property [EXCLUSIVE Part 1]
[...]

Christy Broome said that her daughter, Maddie, grew up with Boswell. The girls were inseparable best friends. Broome’s daughter passed away in 2018 at age 17, but Broome said she still kept in contact with Boswell afterward and always treated her as her own child.

[...]

Broom said after the AMBER Alert was issued, Boswell had nowhere to live. ...

During the time Boswell stayed at Broome’s home, she didn’t act like she was interested in finding her child, Broome told CrimeOnline.

... Boswell repeatedly expressed fear that she would be arrested, which baffled Broome.

[...]

She kept saying that day, ‘I just feel like I am going to get arrested.’ She said it about five times because she knew they [investigators] were searching on Tommy Sr., her dad’s property. I said, ‘Why would you say that, Megan?’ She said, ‘I just feel like my mom would hurt Evelyn and put her on my dad’s property.'”

Broome said Megan had “no tears, no emotion, nothing.”

[...]

Broom was referring the first search conducted by investigators on Boswell Sr.’s property within days after issuing the AMBER Alert. After the initial search concluded, investigators did not find Evelyn’s body, but they reportedly found evidence that they sent to Quantico, Virginia, for testing.

When law enforcement officials asked Megan to come to the station and view the evidence, she stalled, according to Broome, and told them she was “tired” and would come in the following day.

[...]

Broome said at night, Boswell wet the bed, something she had never done before. Boswell didn’t talk about it or offer an explanation, but Broome said it happened during the time investigators searched her father’s property.

“When she found the search was over, only then she started to assert herself because I told her, ‘You have a missing baby! You’re sitting here telling me you don’t want to bother them. Get on the phone and find out what’s going on!'” Broome continued.

[...]

No one currently is charged in connection with Evelyn’s death. The autopsy has been sealed to protect the integrity of the investigation.

Megan Boswell remains behind bars on a $150,000 bond. She’s being represented by court-appointed attorney, C. Brad Sproles.

Megan Boswell’s attorney says she’s “thinking rationally” as court date stays on track
Despite a global pandemic complicating court schedules, Megan Boswell will still appear in Sullivan County criminal court on May 8th, according to District Attorney General Barry Staubus.

“And we intend to present her false report case to the grand jury in April,” Staubus said.

[...]

“She’s an intelligent young woman. We’ve had many discussions. She contributes. She is thinking rationally about her situation and this case, and contributes and helps in her defense,” said Sproles.

Sproles said it’s hard to say how news of Evelyn Boswell’s death has affected Megan.

[...]

Sproles said the protective order specifically covers any portion of the preliminary autopsy, the autopsy, and toxicology report.

“So it’s not a complete – I guess people call it a gag order. It’s not that. But the order that has been entered only covers those things,” he said.

Sproles said he does not expect any additional charges or indictments will occur before Megan’s court date.

Investigation into Evelyn Boswell's death continues despite coronavirus, prosecutor says
The investigation into the death of Tennessee toddler Evelyn Boswell is continuing despite the coronavirus pandemic because authorities feel the case is a priority, Sullivan County District Attorney General Barry Staubus told Knox News.

"I don't feel comfortable talking about exactly what we're doing," Staubus said Wednesday. "But generally, it's like any investigation. There have to be interviews conducted, there has to be forensic testing completed, and there are a number of things that have to be done. And those things are ongoing."

[...]

"Officers are very concerned about being infected and having contact with individuals, particularly on patrol and things like that," he said. "We've released people from jail, and we're giving citations when we would normally do arrest warrants. We're reducing the number of extraditions. In that way, it’s affected a lot of criminal justice functions."

But, in handling the Boswell case, Staubus said, the mindset is: "Let's do the things that will maintain the safety of the investigators, but let's still try in every way we can to pursue whatever it is we have to do."

[...]

A judge agreed to seal records from an autopsy, and Staubus said Wednesday he had not seen the autopsy report. The prosecutor again declined to release any details about how the child died.

"All of these things eventually will be revealed," he said.
