GUNTOWN, Miss. — A manhunt for a fugitive accused of a double-slaying and kidnapping two children ended Thursday after the suspect apparently shot himself and died. The girls he fled with were found safe, police said.

Adam Mayes, 35, was killed Thursday evening after authorities acted on a tip and found him in the area near New Albany, Miss. When they went to arrest him, he shot himself in the head, said Guntown Police Chief Michael Hall.


The girls, Alexandra Bain, 12, and Kyliyah Bain, 8, were being taken to a hospital for observation, Hall said. It was not immediately clear if they were with Mayes when he was killed.

I agree. AND I'm glad he is a big coward. Saves much grief reliving everything in court for the families. Especially the girls. Bad enough they'll have to testify against TM & MM.

Now they can begin healing sooner.

Just saw a tweet from local station (I live in central MS) that coroner just arrived at hospital where Mayes was taken. Also saw tweets that FBI confirmed he is dead. This is my first post. I hope I didn't break any rules.

Depending on what weapon he used to shoot himself, he will not be right if he does live. The trauma of these girls having to see him shoot himself in the head is horrible enough. I hope they were in teh dark about their mom and sister. I really do. But I fear he will not be right or able to stand trial. Can anyone remember what caliber of gun people stated he carried? I am trying to determine the amount of damage, I am assuming he most likely will not make it. Even a .22 point blank to the head can kill ya, but if larger caliber, he will not be able to stand trial if he does live. He will be housed at the medical unit at the prison, and just be a burden. Plus at the med unit they are treated better...I don't want him treated better. I am sorry. I just want him to expire....cut and dry...I understand if you want him to live...I just don't, not if its going to be nothing but a burden to the state.

I had a friend whose husband walked shot her and killed her in front of their two daughters. Then he told the girls to leave and he shot himself in the head with a 357 magnum. He didn't die. He was ruled not able to stand trial and he lives at the NC Beach now. Funny thing, he supposedly doesn't remember a thing but he still calls and tries to talk to his daughters. Never spent a day in jail.

Justice????

My point is, if he survives and can't stand trial he might walk away.

Tonight, we honor JoAnn and Adrienne Bain and shed tears of joy for the good news about Alexandria and Kyliyah. Earlier today, I read through more than 400 posts by JoAnn (Jodie) Bain on a forum for people who raise chickens. I don't know much about that business. But she had made a lot of friends on that forum. From her posts, I gathered that she had a wonderful personality and was a caring and very trusting person. There were people on that forum who exchanged addresses and mailed starter eggs to each other. Jodie was one of them who exchanged things. She also was busy doing sewing and knitting. I believe she made some clothing for a friend's new baby.

JoAnn Bain is like a lot of people in this world. She lived her life like an open book. She loved things: her family, her pets, the warm Arizona climate. She and Adrienne are gone. But the influence they had on Alexandria and Kyliyah will comfort them now and serve them well as they move on with their lives. Each day, our world knows unspeakable evil. But this site and the brave work of the men and women who tracked down Adam Mayes is proof once again that good will always defeat evil. Stay vigilant and strong and come back to help us cope and defeat the next evil that comes our way.

What a chicken chit, low-life baztard Adam Mayes was!!!! As I currently understand this situation, he thinks the two young girls are "his".... (never clear is that means biologically, or posessively). So.... he probably feels threatened by them moving to Arizona, and therefore, what is the solution in his pathetic cesspool of a brain? He will kill their Mother and sister (who they obviously loved), and run off with a pocket full of money from selling his motorcycle. DID HE NOT THINK WHAT WOULD HAPPEN NEXT???? Did he honestly think the girls would be cool with the situation? He gets cornered, and blows himself away. :banghead::banghead::banghead: What a piece of crap he was.
