MEMPHIS, TN The mother of a missing baby remains in jail on $2 million bond.
Shakara Dickens made her first court appearance Friday, September 24, 2010 on charges of aggravated child abuse and filing a false report.
Ten-month-old Lauryn Dickens was last seen alive on Labor Day. Nine days later she was reported missing to police. Dickens told police she gave the baby to an unknown white woman.
We cant confirm anything the way she is saying it is. She has been all over the board with different stories, said Memphis Police Director, Larry Godwin. I really believe and feel the child has suffered bodily harm.
Homicide detectives are conducting the investigation. Evidence has been collected from Dickens apartment. According to a search warrant, cadaver dogs turned up the scent of human remains at her apartment.
We submitted samples from the house and hopefully there will be some DNA when it comes back, said Godwin about the evidence collected.
