Wisconsin man charged in disappearance of Monroe County teen
Rogers pleaded not guilty to charges of sexually exploiting a child and making false statements in a Wisconsin federal court on Thursday after a federal grand jury returned those charges on Wednesday.

Instead of calling the authorities, Rogers told the teen to film herself being raped and later lied to investigators after receiving the video, which was graphic enough to prompt charges against Pruitt, police say.

According to court records, Rogers drove to Madisonville to take the teen from her home in January and kept her in his home in Madison, Wisconsin.

She was found there weeks later, scared but "doing fine," according to Monroe County Sheriff Tommy Jones.

Updated: Feb 21, 2019

“Bryan David Rogers faces one count of production of child *advertiser censored* and one count of making a false statement. He could face 15 to 30 years in prison.

The jury alleges Rogers "knowingly and intentionally persuaded, induced and coerced a minor... to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of such conduct, and such visual depiction was transported in interstate commerce from Tennessee to Wisconsin."

He's also charged with lying to authorities about driving to Tennessee to pick up the girl and that she was at his mother's home in Wisconsin.“

Man who coerced little girl to send video of her father raping her pleads NOT GUILTY, lawyer says he was trying to help a sex assault victim: Court
Rogers’ attorneys, Jonas Bednarek and Marcus Berghahn, claimed their client never had sex with the girl and was only trying to help her get out of a dangerous home situation.

However, Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Pfluger argued in court earlier this month that a sexual assault examination on the teen girl, performed after authorities rescued her from Rogers’ home, showed sexual activity had occurred within the past three to five days. The dates were within the time ranges she was staying with Rogers.

Bednarek added that Pruitt was arrested shortly after the FBI received the package. When police arrived at Rogers’ home on January 31, he allegedly lied about the girl being there because he wasn’t sure whether she would be returned to her father.

Rogers didn’t know at the time that Pruitt had been arrested and charged with rape. Oppeneer ultimately decided there was enough information to hold Rogers without bond until trial. The judge said that the amount of work put into hiding the girl, evading police and initially lying to them was in part, why he chose to deny bond.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Pfluger said at a plea hearing Wednesday for Bryan Rogers, 31, that Rogers and the girl had conversations via Facebook about sex while professing their love for one another, but said during those conversations that sex would be illegal because of their ages.

[...]

Pfluger said Wednesday that the girl initially told investigators she and Rogers had only kissed, but in a subsequent interview said they had sex once they had arrived at Rogers’ home. Pfluger said DNA evidence proved there was intercourse between Rogers and the girl.

Hours before police found the girl, Rogers was visited by the FBI and denied ever meeting the girl in person or even having been to Tennessee recently.

[...]

In court filings, Rogers’ lawyers wrote that he and the girl sent evidence of the alleged sexual abuse to the FBI, and the alleged perpetrator of that abuse was soon arrested. Rogers was initially charged with coercing the girl to produce child *advertiser censored*, for telling her to secretly capture the abuse on video as evidence. That charge is to be dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Rogers will be sentenced by Conley on Sept. 13. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison. The maximum penalty for the charge is life, though advisory federal sentencing guidelines make that sentence unlikely. Under the plea agreement, Rogers waived his right to appeal his sentence if it is 15 years in prison or less.
