Evaluators are not supposed to provide therapy - it is considered unethical.

So, does a person have to go though an evaluator before they receive therapy? Years ago, my teenagers were driving me crazy, drug use..running away. I needed counseling. I picked up my HMO handbook of Preferred Providers and chose a psychiatrist for counseling. Much to my surprise, I found out that a psychiatrist was there to write out drug prescriptions..which I did not need and did not ask for. I thought we we were going to talk! He told me if I wanted to talk about my issues, I would need a psychologist and that he was only there to give me meds. Now, I learn that there is yet another level of treatment? An evaluator? Well, at least the insurance companies are making $$$.

PROSECUTION ADDED NEW WITNESS Hollie Guptill Mefford AND Jacob Mefford of Hesperia CA

Hesperia, CA?? I lived right by Hesperia, in Victorville for eighteen years. Moved back to Texas seven years ago..My son still lives in the area. Wonder what the guy in Hesperia (in pretty much the middle of nowhere) has to do with this trial?

In hearing how much overtime ALV spent with ja, would it be possible for the Defense Fund of Arizona, or who ever pays her, cut her pay to only the normal hours fees or nominal fees paid based on actuaries or averages of other defendants psych evaluations, or do they have to pay her hour for hour?? 44 hours of person to person interview vs 12 hour average of person to person interview. Lord only knows how much she will bill the State for hours spent reading journals, emails and text messages. Then finalizing or office time spent to make reports, etc. Just wondering if there is a cap when the State is footing the bill. This may have been brought up, it would take me to the week-end to read through today's threads, so if it has, my apologies

OT but watching youtube vids of trial on the TV via laptop for first time ... Different world!!! Wish I didn't need laptop to work during day. This is the life :)

I was disappointed with her. I was expecting more. IMO, Dr. DeMarte sounded like she was reciting straight out of her college texts. She gave me the impression that she used alot of her tools (tests) on her clients but I did not get the impression that she did much acutal therapy. I don't know anything about the kind of work that she has done but it sounded like she was just evaluating people to "get them through the system". CPS, prisoners, low income people, disability claims. :moo:

All subsequent care stems from the initial assessment that Dr. D seems to excel at. People need to be assessed and diagnosed before they can enter the system so I guess I don't understand your criticism. She was hired to assess, not provide therapy for JA. From her assessment, the right clinician or team would be assembled to meet the needs of each client. It's an important job that both Dr. S and ALV failed at.

negative.
your therapist might decide to help him/her structure your treatment better, to have testing done.
Typically your therapist would have test results interpreted by an independent psychologist.

can you hook up your computer to your TV (maybe via HDMI?).
Then you can set up a the TV as separate desktop to play the trial while you work on your computer.

That's what I do.

I'm doing that for the first time today too, thru MyPlex and a ROKU box. Wish I had thought of it a few months ago.

Off topic but you almost have to demand an evaluation unless you are going inpatient in a facility. Basically you see 2 different people and one is who checks in with you monthly aka writes the meds. Hope this answers your question.

Edited to add: When you go a counseling center, they try and get you in with the pill doc first - who does an assessment (no testing unless they determine to do so) and writes meds which they give you a 30 day supply for. Before you leave you generally schedule your appointment with the counselor and your next appointment with the psychologist. Insurance generally will only pay for weekly visits and you can only see one Dr in that center.

Getting in with the psychologist is generally more difficult right now, honestly.

Okay. Let me explain something to you about parents my age and Jodi's mom.
She called the police on Jodi, not to shrug it off on them but because she wanted to shock Jodi a bit. Good for her. Also, all this terminology and enlightenment wasn't around back then. It is so easy to criticize. But she did probably do all she could. And I have four children, all grown and doing well, but that "tender age of fifteen" crap is just that....crap...when you are dealing with someone born evil! I am thankful to God my children were okay. It was totally Him. But i knew some moms who were just pulling their hair out because one child demanded ALL the attention. There weren't many mental health officials to help back then, there wasnt much talked about in the open and Child protective services wasn't readily available. She likely cries herself to sleep nights wondering how she failed poor Jodi. Jodi was born evil. Period.

Yeah right!

If Jodi was born evil, it was their duty as parents to get the best expert advice and counseling for her
