I often listen to 702 radio in the evenings - especially to Aubrey Masango "Talk at Nine" show, it’s excellent.
Anyways, I had in on after midnight last night and they talked about the Oscar trial. It was quite telling, a lot of angry people called in. A VERY angry man called and said that if Oscar cannot do time then all disabled people should be immediately released from prisons :).

Then an expert on the SA prisons called and said that the conditions for rich people (by rich he meant anything but extremely poor) are completely different - private rooms, access to computers, gym, etc. He talked about the case of four young, white men - living in the same area as Arnold - known as the "Waterkloof 4".
They could drink alcohol, party etc.

Here is a video of how the rich (The Waterkloof 4) live in SA prisons:

Yep, party time! Grrrrrrrrrrr. And the build on that guy, wow, he's got access to a gym and/or steroids. OP would have it even better, conjugal visits from various girlfriends I'm sure. But alas, even that is too hard for OP, the guys won't stand for his tantrums. lol

It’s already making the news.

Oscar probation officer’s soft approach

http://www.iol.co.za/news/crime-cou...fficer-s-soft-approach-1.1765221#.VD4bs75xuTM

She recommended house arrest for a man who had beaten up his wife into a vegetative coma.

She also recommended correctional supervision as a suitable sentence for teenagers who had gunned down their 17-year-old housemate and kept it a secret for three days, saying the pair stood the risk of being sodomised in prison.

In 2010, she recommended Molemo “Jub-Jub” Maarohanye as a suitable candidate for correctional supervision as prisons were “devastating “ and overcrowded.

And between November 2008 and October 2011, girls as young as 12 fell victim to the man who probation officer Annette Vergeer had recommended as a suitable candidate for correctional supervision – the Sunday rapist.

Hi - I think you might be thinking of Allison B-C's photo. Best wishes - Bobbie

Hi, Bobbie! Now I'm able to sleep at night. For a long time I thought, it was Reeva's picture, but wasn't sure. Thank you!

Steenkamp press statement http://www.algoafm.co.za/article.aspx?id=10904

PRESS STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF MR AND MRS STEENKAMP
(THE PARENTS)

1. Certain disclosures in Court yesterday have made it necessary to issue this statement.

2. We have advised the parents to remain neutral in regard to sentence in the sense that they should not be seen to attempt to influence the sentence in any way.

3. After Miss Steenkamp (the deceased) was killed on 14 February 2013, the parents were in financial difficulties.

3.1 This was mentioned to Mr Pistorius's lawyers during discussions in regard to a possible civil claim by the parents.

3.2 We were contacted soon afterwards by Mr Pistorius's lawyers with an offer that Mr Pistorius would contribute an amount of R6 000.00 per month towards the parents' rental and living expenses.

3.3 Payments took place from March 2013 until September 2014.

3.4 When the offer was made during March 2013, we, on behalf of the parents, thought that it would only be fair to Mr Pistorius that the public should know this. The request of Mr Pistorius, conveyed through his lawyers, however was that the matter be kept confidential. We have honoured this request.

3.5 We were therefore quite surprised yesterday when this fact was disclosed in court without any prior warning to us. The fact that the matter had been kept confidential at the request of Mr Pistorius's legal advisers, has also not been placed on record.

3.6 The parents intend to repay this amount to Mr Pistorius as soon as arrangements can be made in that regard.

3.7 It was always the intention of the parents that the amounts of R6 000.00 would be set-off against any civil claim that they were going to institute. However once they had decided not to proceed with the civil claim, which decision was only taken during the past few weeks, it follows that the money will be repaid.

4. THE SETTLEMENT OFFER

4.1 In view of the pending civil action we considered it appropriate to attempt some kind of settlement in that regard as soon as possible.

4.2 This was considered especially because the parents were emotionally suffering quite badly and an early settlement was considered to be appropriate in order for them to get some closure on this specific issue as soon as possible, and to avoid a lengthy civil case.

4.3 It was for this reason that we approached Mr Pistorius' legal advisers with a request as to whether the matter could not be settled. At that stage the parents were not aware of our approaches and discussions between the legal teams were confidential.

4.4 The offer of settlement was then made by Mr Pistorius.

4.5 When the parents were made aware of this offer, they considered it carefully but decided, for various reasons, that they did not want any payment from Mr Pistorius. This is also why we were instructed to advise that no civil claim would be instituted.

4.6 We place this on record to make it clear that a request for an offer emanated from our side, and not from Mr Pistorius's side. He was responding to our request as to whether the civil claim could not be settled.

4.7 We agreed with Mr Pistorius' legal advisors that this issue could be raised by them, but then in the context that it had been rejected.

5. There will be no further comment.

I find it highly amusing that Annette Vergeer declined to be televised during testimony. This was the same woman leisurely sitting at the defense table during Nel’s cross - her two-tone, spiked, skunky Goth hair being TELEVISED around the globe.

WHERE does Roux get these people? LOL

Just like the psychiatrist/trauma therapist for Oscar that testified. She didn't want to be televised....yet most days found sitting in front row wi Pistorius family. Filmed on camera walking all the way to the witness box. Then when finished with testimony, takes a seat directly behind and to the side of Roux. So every minute Roux is televised on TV, so is she. Both in the same frame every single time.

Does anyone know why his bodyguard of relatives deserted him yesterday? Also there were no official "guards" protecting him. All seemed a little odd to see him walk in alone. Apparently Uncle A managed to organise a few official guards/police to escort him out of court at the end of the day. Why had they all deserted him? I hasten to add that I approved of him arriving without protection like any other person would have to.

Two of the so-called Waterkloof Four convicted murderers have been re-arrested for allegedly smuggling alcohol and having a party inside prison.

The act is about to start, watch for the tears..................

#OscarTrial emotional Oscar has been clutching aunt's hand; now moving to dock. Painful testimony ahead from prosecution witnesses

Yes I know. They’ve been in and out of prison. And while on parole one of them was involved in a car accident in Pretoria which left a woman seriously injured and her two young boys sustained minor injuries. I believe he’s still out.

Nothing screams fake to me more than this clip, here the sad pathetic broken, vulnerable man that has lost everything arrives at court for day 2 of his sentencing. Gone is the charade of the bodyguard protectors that were there for every other court day. No need for the charade any more as the deal has been done. Notice his body language, it speaks volumes. This is a cocky confidant man full of bravado & arrogance......

You are so right , the real attitude, the true self has surfaced already. Seems he was spot on when he said ' I always win' . Even in the face of IMO a classic 'cut and dried ' murder case money talks !!

Looks like a university dorm room.

It's a bit like the prisons in the Netherlands for convicted war criminals - they live much better than the vast majority of the people in the countries where they committed their crimes. I'm not one of the bread and water brigade, and i think prisoners should have opportunities for treatment, education etc, but by the same token I don't think the living standards should be motel like, let alone cushy.
