#OscarTrial Nel puts it to the witness that her recommendation of three years house arrest is shockingly inappropriate. BB

and her answer was "I am entitled to my opinion" (oh ladeeee deeee dah)) MOO

she sounds ((MOO)) condescending at best ((have other words but you know.....can't say them))

Oh my good, Pistorius wanted the "parents not to influence the sentencing in any way". This is bribery and disgusting on a grieving and tragic.

Roux doesn't really change any of their statement except to say his client is a worm. True story!

I can't believe Uncle Arnold hugged Barry Steenkamp. Pistorius clan is probably about to stab Steenkamp and the victims friends in the back in press releases and manipulative press tactics.

BBM .. it makes me feel sick .. please do not be taken in by these people, June and Barry!

Oscar doesn't do windows either lol. If the kiddie speeches don't work out, he can always give seminars on "Proper Gun Handling & Safety for Amputees".

In August this year 9 year old girl shot and killed her instructor with an Uzi. It was in Arizona.

No. I use a PC so I sit at a desk. I only watch APAC if I can't get a feed, or if it's utterly boring. Last night I had to shut the PC down because of severe thunderstorms so I watched it in bed.

Must have mixed you up with another Aussie. I somehow thought it was you that made me aware Foxtel were broadcasting it during the trial, prior to then I always watched via ENCA's live feed.

Just when we thought the debacle of the trial was over, we are now in the debarcle of sentencing. I presume precedents about sentencing for culpable homicide convictions would play a big part in judges determining an appropriate sentence. I also think his disability cannot save him from a prison term, particularly as the prosecution will no doubt have someone from the corrections system to give evidence his disabilities can be accommodated.
All this stuff about how going to prison will break him is just crazy talk, otherwise no one would be sent to prison because they are not nice places. He is a convicted criminal.
Mind you I am open to expect anything from this Judge.

Hi Alioop, nice to see you on the thread. Agree.

It is really really, disappointing that Pistorius basically asked the Steenkamps to remain silent in return for money, and was not reported to the police, and, that information was not revealed during the trial. I am also surprised the judge did not ask any questions about this.

“In an excruciating encounter, the Paralympian had to brush past Samantha Taylor who gave evidence against him during his murder trial.

To compound his awkwardness before the start of the hearing on Tuesday, Pistorius also had to sidle past Jared Mortimer - a man he was involved in a nightclub scuffle with in July”. (VIP night club)

The ridiculous thing is that, although to us the points he has made/scored are obvious we're all genuinely concerned about the ability of the Judge to comprehend them. It's a surreal twist on the usual (to us) courtroom situation where points are very succinctly made and then clarified and restated to as to assist the members of the jury who may have below average intelligence.

Nel's carrying on as he is used to presumably. I wonder it that's because this is just how he thinks on his feet with an awkward witness or perhaps because he realises this phase is pointless and he's doing it for the record and for the appeal process?

BBM - Exactly, and that's why I believe he needed to be far more succinct with them. I'm glad that CE is over, it was unbearable to listen to, both the witness and Nel.

On lunch now till 1.30. Nel wanted long break.

Before we left, Nel said he had four witnesses. Judge said, 'Four!' sounding surprised and disapproving. So Nel amended it to three, then judge said she wasn't trying to influence him, and Nel amended that to 'three or four, but they won't be long Milady'.

I am not sure judge is right to make Nel feel he has to rush, really. This is too important.

BBM

The same thing happened during the Heads of Argument - Masipa said things that explicitly implied that Nel would have to hurry it up, IIRC.

Meanwhile, the DT has been given free rein throughout this trial to waste the Court's time on a daily basis with no consequence or reprimand.

Hopefully Steenkamps will provide an 11th hour surprise and slap a civil suit.....now that the cat is out of the bag about the previous arrangement.....

So I guess Pistorius' request for Steenkamps to 'remain neutral' did include them not making a victim impact statement in person on the stand, on behalf of their daughter?

I can't make out how OP is having to brush past those people where they are sitting on the benches .. he is sitting on his own in the middle of his own bench .. why the heck did he need to be walking through the bit where ST or JM was sitting??

I don't see the point of Trish Taylor. Roux's going to give her as hard a time as he gave her daughter and probably worse because she's been paid for a book deal. She'll have character evidence but Roux will already be prepared for because it'll be in the book.

Agree Zwiebel. It seems they were asked to remain 'neutral' in return for the money. Outrageous IMHO. Borderline criminal behaviour?

Re money paid to Steenkamps, and the lump sum offered. Roux rapidly brushed over "the Steenkamps to remain neutral", otherwise no change from yesterdays explanation.
BIB - I'm not even sure what that means. He said the money was given unconditionally, but how can that be true if they were expected to remain 'neutral'? And how do they do that exactly, by not saying anything negative about the man who killed their daughter, or by not giving verbal impact statements? I'm confused.

and her answer was "I am entitled to my opinion" (oh ladeeee deeee dah)) MOO

And spoken like a true brat who knows her opinion has been proven to lack any factual foundation whatsoever.

She may as well have said "Don't confuse me with the facts".

That seems to be the ongoing theme of this whole fiasco of a trial.

Oh poor him, the fact that he was detained in a police station for a few days was a severe eye opener to him. How about lying on a cold slab of ice in the morgue. Unbelievable !!

Nel asks if Vergeer followed Dewani case where our prison conditions were found adequate for his extradition by British court

Good one, NeL!

In Court yesterday

“A number of colourful and controversial characters from South Africa's criminal underworld have joined the public benches since the lengthy sentencing hearing got under way.

Mikey Schultz, a self-confessed killer, and Guil Yahav, a former bouncer who also faced murder charges, sat on the side of the court which has traditionally been occupied by Miss Steenkamp's friends and relatives”.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/ot...ntencing-hearing-reeva-steenkamp-killing.html

And then we have Marc Batchelor who is a good friend of Jared Mortimer. It’s interesting to note that Anneliese said OP was there with his cousin. What she didn’t mention was that Guil Yahav was also with them.

Here’s the connection between all these people.

OP was accompanied to VIP night club with a cousin and Yahav.
Yahav introduced OP to Mortimer.
Mortimer is a of Yahav and Batchelor.
Batchelor is friends with Mortimer, Mikey Schultz and Quinton Van der Burgh.

When OP went to the London Olympics, Sam Taylor went to Dubai with Quinton Van der Burgh. When OP returned home and found out about it he confronted Van der Burgh in the VIP room at the Kyalami racetrack where Van der Burgh was with a large number of businessmen who invest in his companies. Van der Burgh laid a charge of defamation or intimidation against OP. OP retaliated by sending him a barrage of threatening SMS messages.

When Batchelor heard about this a few days later, he began defending Van der Burgh. Batchelor and OP exchanged threats via SMS and in one of these, OP threatened to break Van der Burgh’s legs. A charge of intimidation was laid against Batchelor after he allegedly threatened OP in return. They both met up with the Hawks who were investigating the intimidation charge and the matter was resolved.

Batchelor, Schultz and Yahav probably turned up with a view to intimidating OP by their mere presence, or maybe to remind him that they’ll be waiting for him when he’s back on the streets.

”Mikey Schultz and Nigel McGurk, two underworld figures with long histories of violence who confessed to the shooting of mining tycoon Brett Kebble in 2005, were mysteriously granted licences for nine guns last year, according to a report in Johannesburg’s Star newspaper”.

So if a self-confessed killer can get a gun licence, OP can too because he’s special. Guess he’ll want a .38 Special.

Why does AV's voice have to increase an octave on the last syllable?

I can't think when I've ever heard such an irritating voice.
