Thanks for the summary nanandjim. I appreciate you posting all of that. I missed it and forgot to set TiiVo. :( I'll be back later to ask some questions and such. But what you said goes along with my original suspicions that arose when this kid was the only person on the ship to lawyer up. He's scared and probably for good reason...

Indeed! I guess if they wanted to be alone and only with each other, they would have gone to a more private, secluded destination. The cruise that they chose to take was described as being one for very active people/adults (not your normal older couple kind of cruise).

So, I guess that they wanted to socialize and have fun with others. I firmly believe that if George and Jennifer had limited their drinks that evening, George would be alive today.

This hopefully will teach young people about the perils of drinking. Of course, I was young once and never thought that anything would happen to me either. I feel very blessed that nothing ever happened to me.

Maybe they were swingers. You never know what goes on behind closed doors.

Nan, I agree with your theory also. I am so glad I watched the show last night, it was really good, and pretty informative. Why didn't they say where Jennifer was that night. The only reason I could think of, would be, because she was in another man's room. Otherwise, I think it would have been revealed. If she slept on some chairs somewhere, they would have said that. And, in her same clothes from the night before, interesting indeed. The man in the next room, said after the 3 men left, he heard all that disturbance going on. But he only said he heard one voice, he thought. Maybe Josh, kept quiet on purpose, during the racous(sp), so as not to be heard. And Josh kept saying Jennifer was with the casino manager, but it was proven they parted ways. But could they have got back together again that night??? A lot of questions. I can't wait for revelation, to come out. Its sad, but interesting.

I saw this program as well. I think you have a good theory.

If I'm not mistaken, in the beginning, many people thought the Russian boys might be responsible. But I like your theory better after seeing the show last night. What you say makes perfect sense, IMO.

I believe this case will be solved.

I thought there were two Russian guys along with the kid from California?

Hmmmm... Somehow I was thinking that there were three people in the Russian party plus the California kid. I could be wrong, though. If you are correct, then that would certainly change my theory!! I wonder how we can find out.

Nan:
You're right, there were three in the Russian party plus the California college student.

In a confusing interrogation, Turkish authorities question cruise passenger Josh Askin, 20, about the missing honeymooner, George Smith. The tape was made on the same day Smith was reported missing.

On the videotape, Askin explains to an interpreter that he and three other men were with Smith shortly before he disappeared during the Mediterranean cruise.

George Allen Smith IV was supposed to wake up tomorrow morning to his 27th birthday. He was supposed to head over to the Cos Cob Liquor store for work while his new wife, Jennifer Hagel, would have been inside a Westport classroom teaching third-graders.

None of that happened and yesterday, nearly three months after Smith mysteriously vanished from a honeymoon cruise in the Mediterranean, his family issued their first public comments since Smith disappeared July 5.

The family of a honeymooner who vanished from a cruise ship has called for legislation to protect passengers and their families.
The wife, parents and sister of George Allen Smith IV, of Greenwich, Conn., yesterday issued their first public statement since Smith vanished July 5 from the ship in the Mediterranean.

Switching gears to the missing groom case. As you recall, George Smith, just 27 years old, went missing off a dream honeymoon cruise through the Mediterranean. Not a trace. Here`s what a fellow passenger had to say.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

KAREN DRAKE, PASSENGER ON CRUISE SHIP: I woke up about 7:30. And I stepped out on the balcony, and it was just too apparent to miss right below my balcony. And there was a very large bloodstain there, very, very dark in the middle.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: That was fellow boat passenger Karen Drake speaking out. I want to quickly go back to Diane Dimond.

Diane, apparently the family is finally speaking out. And they`re taking on Washington. How?

DIMOND: Well, it`s interesting. They have released a public letter, so to speak. And it`s really heart-wrenching, Nancy. You`ve seen these things before.

But for the first time, we get a glimpse at what they were doing when they just got this word that the groom they`d sent off on a 12-day honeymoon cruise was not going to come home.

Does anyone know what is going on with this case? I know they have the pictures of the blood stains on the ship, but come on where are the family members i have yet to see one even on tv talk about it or anything, is this case going anywhere?

I heard on Nancy Grace earlier this week that his family has finally broken their silence, i dont think they did an interview, but they took their case to Washington to try and get a law that protects people on the cruise ships, or something to that effect

Thats a good start, they need protection on those ships, my parents go on cruises all the time and i always worry about them.

I keep wondering if the new bride had something to do with his disappearance. I saw an interview, where someone said she was with another guy that night. I can't for the life of me remember what program I seen it on. Maybe it was Dateline.

Seems like they said that the Manager of the Casino was staying really close to the bride all evening. I've heard so many different stories it is hard to say what was true and what just sounded good. It doesn't sound like anyone knows where the bride was all night. I just hope they figure out who murdered the groom.

I also heard on one of the shows...Dateline I think... that the groom didn't win a ton of money gambling. The casino's know who won a bundle and they should have a record of that if he did. Maybe the groom and the Manager got into it over the bride???? They were all so drunk by the sounds of it none of them may remember what happened. I hope they get it figured out soon. We know only one thing for sure and that is that the groom is missing and there was blood in the cabin, on the deck and on the awning.

I hope they find something out for this poor boys family, its so sad....

I believe I read they were so drunk, they couldn't even function.

Perhaps he had an accident and fell overboard. Just as likely IMO.

There is a discussion page on this case. There was never any information released that I know of. Weird, really, when you think about it. That's why I think he may have had a drunken 'accident'.

IMO

Having hired a maritime lawyer and public relations firm, the family of George Allen Smith IV yesterday blasted the cruise industry for its handling of passenger safety, applauding a congressional hearing scheduled for next week.

"We are so pleased that our efforts have resulted in the Congressional hearing," the Smith family said in an e-mail yesterday. "We hope that George's disappearance from Royal Caribbean's 'Brilliance of the Seas' has brought much needed attention to the lack of security and other problems endemic in the cruise industry. The time has come to stand up to the cruise lines and protect American citizens by passing new laws that make the cruise industry accountable for passenger safety and the preservation of crime scenes, strengthen passenger rights and law enforcement's powers."
