Royal Caribbean said yesterday that when its crew returned Jennifer Hagel Smith to her cabin on the morning her husband disappeared from their honeymoon cruise, the bed appeared made and there was no apparent sign of blood.
But whether there was blood underneath the bedspread is something the FBI has asked not to be disclosed, the cruise line said.
"The bed was made with the cover on the bed, the sheets were not exposed and Mrs. Hagel Smith was placed on top of the cover," said Lanny Davis, a Miami-based Royal Caribbean lawyer. "The FBI has asked us to not comment on what, if anything, was found under the bedspread."
Blood was reportedly found in the cabin, according to Turkish investigators. Smith's family has said that they were told blood was found in the cabin.
Royal Caribbean said that the FBI has asked the cruise line not to talk about whether blood was found in the cabin other than to say that blood was not visible to the crew members who, after finding Hagel Smith in the corridor, wheeled her back to her cabin.
