:tyou: I taught high school English and Journalism and was a stickler for correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, sentence/paragraph structure, etc. Parochial school nuns taught me well, and I've always blessed my parents for making the sacrifices necessary to send my siblings and I to Catholic school.

I pay very little attention to spelling, grammar, etc. on the internet that is a whole new world and far-removed from my teaching days. I would never chastise or correct posts for rudimentary mistakes that, as you say, we all understand. Geez! I sometimes reread my posts and find that I've committed a grammar or spelling error in haste :blushing:

Teehee. Case in point

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

Texas Counted a Fetus as a Church Shooting Victim — That’s Not Unusual
by Erik Ortiz

The mass shooting one week ago inside of a rural Texas church devastated three generations of the Holcombe family. Among the dead were Crystal Holcombe, 36, and her three children — Megan, 9, Emily, 11, and Greg, 13.

But Holcombe was also eight months pregnant, a cousin told The Associated Press. When authorities released the identities of the 26 victims, included on the list was Holcombe's unborn child: Carlin Brite "Billy Bob." ...

I have an MA in English, but auto correct and hitting the wrong key with my thumb on my phone ends up making me look like an idiot at times. So I'm with you on this.

I often feel the same way. When will will it happen? Where? How many dead and wounded?

Why?

Sadly, these mass shootings have become the new normal. They happen, and the media reminds us for several days. Then, we move on, watching and waiting for the next mass shooting event. We know it will happen again, but we don't know where, when, how, or who the victims will be. :(

Sad to see where each person was actually sitting at the time of the shooting.

I agree. Breaks my heart a little more.

Also.. this really terrifies me more than mass shootings already do. I live in a small town, with a small church that I go to religiously, and have children. I am not against guns but this just scares me. I already think of what to do during a situation like this anywhere I go. Especially if i am a crowd and I see a car go by because cars is another big way to try to kill people nowadays.

I pray for all the families and all the heartache they're going through. So tough....

I really hope they keep the church up like someone said.

Quite a remarkable transformation.

Those proposing a new law to address domestic terrorism assert that America does not yet have such a law. That simply is not true. Current law defines domestic terrorism as “activities that (A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State; (B) appear to be intended (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;(ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and (C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States.” International terrorism is defined in similar terms.

I'm not a big fan of defining things as "terrorism." It seems similar to the label, "hate crime."

You know I look at this and I think, why weren't any of those healthy young men able to stop him?

It just seems strange, that they didn't tackle him, I don't know maybe it happened too fast, but I can't see the men just standing there and letting him shoot everybody.

By the way, absolutely no blame here, just my thoughts as I looked at the victims.

Your thoughts?

I think it all happened too fast. My question is, knowing he'd been told to stay away from the church, and knowing he'd shown up the previous Thursday for the fall festival dressed in black and acting weird, why didn't it occur to them to have someone keep watch during services just in case he came around?

I'm sure none of them thought he'd come in guns blazing, but they should have had an inkling he may want to disrupt services to make himself heard.

aDHD child, medicated and allegedly resenting being medicated..
went or was sent to join the army.. a highly difficult environment, particularly for adhd..
failure after failure.. escalation after escalation..
crying and temper tantrums following reprimand..
he never grew up, he never became adult..
its a cruel world..

I don't think it was ADHD meds that he didn't like. It was likely stronger meds, like anti-psychotics and mood stabilizers that he had a problem with.

we're actually discussing the new York Times article.. he was treated for aDHD prior to court martial.. as well as depression.

It is unclear whether the memorial will be permanent, or whether the building will be razed.

More beautiful photographs.. I too hope they will retain the building as a permanent memorial.
Its beautiful.

I like the idea of the permanent memorial, but I also think of how traumatizing it may be for some to see that building, let alone have to walk or drive past it to get to their new building every Sunday. Having it razed may be the only way for healing to begin for some.

My daughter went to church with her Grandma this morning and she said she was nervous to begin with, and then one of the congregants went on the stage to playfully tuck in the pastor's shirt and she said she started to feel panic because she was worried he was going to do something bad.

I can't believe this world we live in sometimes.
