The one significant difference in this case (IF Alanna was intentionally placed at the curb) is that Sandra's killer tried to conceal her corpse to keep it from being discovered.
But deep down, IMO, she really wanted LE to find Sandra (as part of the thrill for Melissa), as she made a point to report her
missing suitcase to the investigating police and then 'stumble upon' a note telling where the child in a suitcase is.
I'd never heard of the case until I started following the Jorelys Rivera/Ryan Brunn case and a Websleuther here (can't remember who!) told me about Cantu/Huckaby and I read the threads. They were similar in the child abduction/muder/dispose....
'gosh, I can't stop myself, I think I need to insert myself in the investigation...I'll write a note!' Brunn didn't hand the note to police officers but he did, IIRC, leave a note at the dumpster where he put her. He also got (as the helpful handyman at the apartment complex) a picture of Jorelys from her mother and helped to distribute copies of it around the complex.
Anyway, I brought her up yesterday because, IMO, Alanna
may have been partially redressed, which made me think if Huckaby and her redressing/neatly packing sweet Sandra.
And both Huckaby and Brunn threw away (ostensibly to conceal) their victims but were actually so antsy for their victims to be found, they inserted themselves into the investigation. So they only, IMO, temporarily conceal the victim.
So, while this case may be nothing like either of those cases, I keep wondering...
1)If they didn't mean for the body to fall into the street, would they have hidden her and then inserted themselves into the investigation (we'll never know!)
2)Did they dump her with evidence as a sort of short cut to the thrill that Huckaby/Brunn sought--they wanted to watch the drama unfold without the dreaded wait for the body to be found.
3)Is the perp female, thus a partially redressed victim.
So here's what else I'm wondering...
Brunn was a maintenance worker who didn't really 'know' Jorelys, but knew she was always unattended by an adult. And Jorelys would have been very used to seeing him around the complex, waving 'hello there!' to her for several weeks. To her, not a stranger. He steals one of her roller skates from outside her apartment door, takes a pic on his phone of it, hides it. Approaches her when she's alone at the playground, she thinks she knows him cause he works there. He shows her a pic of the skate he's 'found', is it yours? Well, come with me and we'll go get it!
Huckaby, IIRC, also lived in the same neighborhood, and may have been a familiar face to Cantu. Not a friend, but not a stranger. Cantu was out playing...
What about a note? (Huckaby, Brunn both felt compelled to write them.) First item on the list of things taken from the home of Alanna, "Smiley face memo". Was a pre written note on torn off note paper found with Alanna?
So I'm currently (just speaking for today!) leaning that it's someone Alanna vaguely knows by sight/or semi knows as a neighbor/or from some perimeter of her life/ and would let her guard down around. I also wonder if it's someone who met her at church camp--and got involved in the church camp/kids camp activities in order to find a victim.
Sorry so long winded, just wanted to share my thoughts! :seeya:
ETA: Thoughts about possible note left with body.
