I see your point but I guess my understanding of the story was that Gma dispatched Uncle to go and get all of them or to at least see what was going on. My suspicion is that mom called the police because of the imminent arrival of her brother and knowing what he would find, she opted to pull the trigger herself.,..JMO

You may very well be correct, believe09. In any case, the fact that this "mother" clearly had a family to which she could turn for help and that had cared for these children previously just makes me even angrier. There was no reason, whatsoever, for these babies to have suffered so terribly at the hands of that monster. Whatever she did in the end was too little, too late.

OMG!!! You know, I drive by houses and apartments, and I always say a prayer for any children or adults that are living in He!! inside. I can't believe the neighbors never heard or suspected anything. Those poor kids must have been completely terrorized. This satement about the Mother sort of pizzes me off, however:

""She just had a history of making poor judgments about her male companions," Jamison said. "I think ultimately the evidence will show that this man was controlling her and controlling the children."

WTF??? It is like saying "She had a history of making poor choices in colors that were flattering to her skin tone. I think ultimately, the evidence will show that she had very poor choices in colors due to the lack of variety in the stores she was shopping in". I mean COME ON!!!! :banghead::banghead::banghead: I am a Mother, and there is NO amount of ANYTHING on this earth that would force me to allow my children to live like that - especially not some worthless, pathetic excuse for a human being that was masquerading as a "man". :furious:

I do not understand women that allow these things to happen. I would kill for my children and not even bat an eyelash.

I agree. Yet I have a "friend" who in the past year has lost her husband (he left her) and her Mother (death) and who is now moving in with her boyfriend of 2 months. Leaving the state and one of her two children behind because the boyfriend won't move here. Another friend and I have tried to talk to her about it, but she's "in love." I don't trust this guy and I never would have thought that she'd leave her daughter for him. It's destroyed our friendship. In a way, I'm glad that her daughter isn't going to be with him, but I worry about her son. This guy just seems way too eager to be a "father" to a little boy who already has a father. I often wonder if it would be better for his father to get custody over her.

The uncle is the hero. His first and only concern was the children -- as it should be.

He really is - driving 1,200 miles, taking time off work and maybe from his own family. Bless him and Grandma for caring enough. I think about what I would say/do if someone asked me to do this..... would I pooh pooh the idea because it was so far, and I was busy, and then what about my job? I can soooo see how easy it would have been to talk yourself out of going. That's about a 24 hour road trip with no stopping.

Bless these children and the Grandma and Uncle, and give the Uncle extra kudos! I am so glad he made the time for these children.

The mother's boyfriend, Alfred Santiago, 37, faces charges of aggravated sexual assault and continuous sexual abuse. He remained jailed Wednesday, unable to make his $125,000 bail. No court appearance has been set.

The mother, Abneris Santiago, 30, is charged with injury to a child. She remained jailed on $50,000 bail and is expected to appear in court next week, when a judge will decide whether the case will go to a grand jury.

Those are their bails??? Grrrrrr!!!!!!!

They should have been denied bail - both of these 's! What the HEL* kind of sadistic monster could do these things to innocent children and what kind of "mother" could let it happen? She's medically obese? Guess she wasn't missing many meals. Bi*ch!

I will pray for all of these babies. They have a long road ahead of them.

I will also pray for the worst possible punishment for the "parents." Have to believe they will get what's coming to them or I won't be able to sleep!

DALLAS — Abernis Santiago, the Dallas mother accused of letting her children starve, claims an abusive relationship drove her to do it.

Police found the three children malnourished and on the brink of death. They had spent the last year of their lives locked in the bathroom of a Dallas motel room.

The children's stepfather is charged with sexual abuse.
A judge on Tuesday decided there's enough evidence for the mother's case to go before a grand jury.

I am thrilled the judge is going this route. I do think that a grand jury should decide if mom participated and can be held responsible for this.

I understand the abuse excuse, but she was working OUTSIDE the "home" so to speak. She had a family who was concerned and worried....they forced the rescue at least that is how I see it.

I dont know if her three older kids will ever understand why they were thrown to this wolf.

well, in case they look it up one day, i'll tell them. their mothers a b!tch. Sorry if that's not allowed, I'll erase it but its just how I feel.

Not to judge a book by the cover, but this woman doesn't look like she'd be easy to push around. She looks pretty tough to me - especially with that tattoo on her neck. I'm just not sure I buy her abuse story. We shall see.

These children really touch me. I don't know if it is because they do have a family that cares enough about them to go find them or what. All I can say is Thank God! These children were so close to losing their lives - it just makes me cry.

Of course mom will say it was an abusive relationship - we all know women are never responsible for their actions. There is always some man that made them do it. Well, all I can say is, if you are that danm weak - maybe you should keep your legs crossed.

I no longer belive in "he made me do it". In our County, every public bathroom has the Women's Emergency Shelter number pasted on it. It's on TV all the time, family and friends will discuss it with you - and in this case - will be smart enough to know that this would do anything to keep her .

Prayers for these children that from this day forward they will always be allowed to enjoy the sunshine, they will always have enough to eat and that their Grandma and Uncle will keep them close and love them till the pain goes away.

   a standing ovation to you Salem. Thank you sistah!

I truly wish I had a big enough house and more money as I have enough love for all of the abused children. I would welcome them to my home with open arms and an open heart. The poor children deserve so much more than they get from the parents who are supposed to love and nurture them.

If Granma basically raised the kids there was no point for the "Mother"to move them.Clearly B/F wanted some "punching bags" & she went along with it as ONCE AGAIN we have a woman who will do ANYTHING to keep "her man" even at the expense of her kids.
Im sure all she had to do was call her family to take her "unwanted"children & they wouldve ........happily.I think the B/F pre-planned the sex abuse & that was a motivating factor too! UGH! This makes me so ill!

A trial began in Dallas Wednesday for a man accused of locking his girlfriend's children in a hotel bathroom and starving them for up to nine months.

The uncle of the three children described the day he and police rescued the children, and told the courtroom they were weak and malnourished.

The uncle, Abner Santiago, said that when the oldest child walked out of the hotel room where she and her 10-year-old and 5-year-old half brothers had been kept, she saw tears in his eyes she told him: "It's OK, we're safe now. Everything is going to be OK."

just got an email from DallasNews.com

Man who locked children in motel bathroom and starved them is found guilty. Alfred Santiago faces 5 years to life for knowingly and intentionally causing serious bodily harm to the girl. He faces 25 years to life for continuously sexually abusing her.

I still don't understand how housekeeping did not come in for a whole year! Or at least maintenance. Surely they come by to check the condition of the room, plumbing or smoke alarm checks, other inspections??

Thank the stars for this uncle who rescued these poor souls. I hope they are having feast after feast and ice cream for dessert!
