yes, this is indeed correct. Both promient families involved in the Africian-American community attended same Methodist church.

"The local National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) president Nelson Linder told NBC news that the two murdered victims had links to local prominent African-American families and were connected by the same Methodist church."

Thanks. Just looked up one article I had seen before. It seems that I also read in one article that the supposed last "intended" victim was somehow actually related to one of the other victims- but that could be wrong.

Neighbors say people always out walking near area of fourth Austin explosion
Sisters that live in the area of the explosion claim it's a neighborhood where you can see people walking around often. (More at link)

It's also a popular mountain biking area. I would speculate the guys injured last night were either coming from or going to the trails at Gaines Park right there off of Republic of Texas Blvd.

Looking at the map of the 4 explosions so far - is he going in a circle? Is Westlake next?

"The two Texans killed by package bombs in Austin, Texas, this month were members of prominent African-American families and knew each other, the local NAACP president said Wednesday.

“They have a long history and go to the same church,” Nelson Linder said of the two victims, Stephen House and Draylen Mason, in an interview with NBC News.

Draylen Mason, center, died in one of the Austin bombing incidents. via Facebook
Linder identified their church as Wesley United Methodist Church, which was founded 152 years ago by newly freed slaves.
House was killed on March 2, and Mason on Monday. In another bombing on Monday, investigators believe that a Hispanic woman, Esperanza Herrera, 75, picked up an explosive package that was intended for somebody else. She remained hospitalized in critical condition on Wednesday.

“The intended target was another person who might be connected to the House and Mason families,” said Linder, who declined to identify the targeted person or discuss a possible motive."

Looks like a very solid lead. This is a horrific situation.

CNN just now...two latest victims are young white males, 22 and 23 years old. A trip wire wouldn’t target any specific individual, so I’m thinking the bomber is now either just out for the kill or is covering his interest in the targeted victims from earlier.

Yep, PC is on now with the police chief.

He's asking people in the neighborhood to give them video if they have security cams so they can look at it.

Neighborhood still locked down, perhaps til 2 pm today. They're still processing the scene. A lot of evidence that was thrown across significant distance.

Preliminary review, they've seen similarities to the other bombs. Difference is the trip wire that was used.

ATF agent will be up next.

ATF guy is up. Trip wire is an activated switch, when pressure or tension is placed on wire it will trigger it.

If you see something suspicious, stay back and call police.

Bag, suitcase, box, anything unusual, call police.

FBI guy up

This time, the bomb could have maimed anyone walking though this quiet Austin neighborhood. The three previous bombs were stuffed inside packages and left on residents' doorsteps.

And unlike the victims of the previous blasts, the two men injured in Sunday's explosion are white, Austin police said. Both men are expected to recover. (1)

That particular area, known as Travis County, is in SW Austin,(2) and is around 80% white, according to the census data (3).

This guy is mad about something. I'm not so sure it is race related. I've wondered if he/she/they are making a point about the recent gun debate (not to start a gun debate in this thread), of, look what I can do, and will, w/o a firearm.

That's interesting. I knew a couple of those Secessionist types through my now ex (they were his uncles). All I will say about them is, they were "special."

I'm wondering about this location. The first three locations had at least 4 ways to get to the particular street. This one is a cul de sac. Cul de sacs don't have traffic except for residents, visitors, deliveries, etc., so it seems like the perp would be at increased risk of being spotted. And if there's a camera on the cul de sac, there won't be a lot of vehicles to check out as there would be on a typical street.

Austin residents are now at risk of setting off bombs while they walk down the street.

“It is very important that we stay away from anything that can be suspicious,” FBI special agent in charge Christopher Combs said Monday morning. “We need this to stop. We are very concerned that people can get hurt by this just by walking now.”

Two men in their early 20s were injured Sunday night when they triggered a wire that set off an explosive — the fourth to rock the city this month from a suspected “serial bomber.” Both are expected to survive but "receive significant injuries."

“We’ve definitely seen a change in the method this suspect or suspects is using,” Austin interim Police Chief Brian Manley said of the new technology.

[...]

“We are clearly dealing with a serial bomber,” the police chief said. “We will have to determine if we see a specific ideology.”

great catch. I would NOT be shocked. He is sending a message but we don't know what the message is yet.

He started in the NE, then two on the Eastside, then last night SW, so NW next to be hit?

I'm mulling over the fact that the first bomb happened on Texas Independence Day and this last bomb happened at an intersection of "Republic of Texas Boulevard." Makes me wonder if this is member(s) of one of these Texas Secessionist group. A few of these nuts even appear to have russian ties.

That's an interesting theory. I've heard there are some people who are very passionate about that issue.

Yes, the names of the streets may be somehow relevant. Hard to tell with these kind of criminals. They live inside their own heads a lot and things in the real world have different meanings for them.

The FBI has sent 350 special agents to the Texas capital as well as extra bomb squads.

"With this tripwire, this changes things," said Christopher Combs, special agent in charge of the FBI's San Antonio division. "It's more sophisticated, it's not targeted to individuals ... a child could be walking down a sidewalk and hit something."

Yes, you can tell they are all very worried about this person and his bombs. I noticed that in this last PC. But they're extremely focused, hypervigilant in how they're going about finding this guy. All the agencies seem to be working together very well.

ETA: Reviewing the latest PC, the police chief said they're still not looking at this as a terrorist bombing or a hate crime. They're not seeing that yet.

It's not targeting individuals, but maybe terrorizing a type of neighborhood.
Look for patterns.
