I honestly cannot believe that he got away with this all in broad daylight. Is anyone familiar with the woods where she was found? Is there lane or something that he could have driven down to get her there? I just can't picture him being able to pull over and drag her into the wood during the light of day with no one noticing.

As far as split custody, I have a brother-in-law and ex-sister-in-law that did it that way. He got our nephew, she got our niece. Neither one had to pay child support and the children spent plenty of time together and with each parent. I know it is not ideal, but in their situation, it worked out. No matter what, it would have been a better situation for these beautiful children than what they face now. The whole situation is just heartbreaking...
If you do street view, it seems deserted to me. Very few houses. Of course, who knows what time of day he hid the body. Also this was just before the hurricane hit.

I'm wondering if she ever moved out or if she lived there all through the divorce and everything else. Could be that both of them thought it would be easier on the kids if they eased into being physically separated. For example, maybe they saw it as a good thing that she needed renovations on the townhome. She could bring the kids there little by little to show them the progress and get them excited about their "second home."

I won't pretend to know them. Just a thought.

This recent article says this:

"Crystal planned on moving back into the home the couple formerly shared, after she finished having it remodeled."

I think this was their last home and they moved to their current home and never sold this one. Maybe he kept this house and she got the townhome. Their current house was in a newer area with lots of construction around. I don't think she had moved out of the family home before she was killed.

She filed. He was the respondent. She had the attorney. Her attorney worked out the arrangements. He simply signed. So I don't see how he manipulated the process. He wasn't fighting it. He didn't use an attorney. I expect that what was in the decree was how Crystal wanted to do this. Either that, or she should have hired a better attorney if she was wanting a different outcome in the decree.

I think you're missing what I mean :) I simply think he manipulated her into continuing to live with him, using the kids as an excuse. I didn't mean that I think he contrived the plan or manipulated the process. But the kids did live with him, he did have full custody of one. And who knows how they worked out that arrangement. Her and Steve could have talked about it prior.

I agree; if he was not letting her take the kid she had custody of, or not letting her have visitation with the other, she easily could have taken it back to court. They could firm up the parenting plans, or request changing things so that she was the primary parent for residential time for for both kids.

Absolutely. But we don't really know what their relationship was like. She may have not wanted to make him angry for the kids, I think they meant everything to her and he knew that

This was for Jethro. But thanks.

I am not a verified attorney but I don't need to be one to be able to read law and understand it nor point at resources from Texas that explain the their laws. Like anything else you can take my posts or leave them. You are free to research it on your own and find the same exact information that I found. I offered nothing more than what those links describe and provided the links. If you can find different explanations of Texas laws that say differently you should post about them.

We seem to have a lot of people new to this case since the news of the arrest of SM. Those who have not been following along since thread 1, may want to watch the Ashley Banfield interviews for background (other reporters covered it but AB had a lot of exclusive interviews with friends and the sheriff while Crystal was missing). Videos from Sept 5, 6, & 7 are here: https://vimeo.com/user17512084

HTH!

For those who can't watch, she called the cops on March 20th. One of her kids didn't show up at school, so she was worried. When she called the cops she told them that Steve had been making threats to hurt himself and the children. :(

I missed the last couple of seconds, but I heard them say she got the kids back the next day. Someone feel free to fill in.

Thank you! Wow. So sad.. poor crystal was put in a terrible situation IMO. I'm just glad that the kids are okay (physically, at least)

I can totally appreciate her not wanting to rock the boat, hoping to keep the peace until her house was done.
