Today is Crystal's funeral. I'm thinking about her poor children.

-Me too. Its grievous to imagine the sadness and confusion these 2 young children must be experiencing today. The sadness we have felt as adults that don't even know Crystal is enough to realize what their immense suffering must be like.

I'm following SO MANY cases, I figured I better make a list of all the ones I'm following, so why not share with you all who might be following the same ones! :D

Someone found this for me!!! :skip:

McDowell is due for an arraignment on Tuesday.

Article is from the 12th, so I will "assume" this means next Tuesday the 19th?? Or since the article was written on the 12th when he had his first appearance - it meant "that" Tuesday??

Anyone else see a "date" - TIA!! Very much appreciated!

-I think this was referring to that Tuesday. Waiting for updates...

So sad. Beautiful pictures of her babies though. I like how one is on each side of her. I wonder if Paul got to meet them?

-Very sweet photos. If there was a family gathering after the service i'm inclined to think Paul would have been welcomed there.

It is a miracle the kids are alive imo. I hope a serious review is done about the Way law enforcement has handled this tragedy.
Truer words have never been spoken. Thank goodness he didn't kill this children.

I couldn't agree more!! I've questioned since I read she called 911 about him harming the kids and himself.

-Are there any updates on the LEO currently on the case? Many have expressed concern over how this is/has been handled, primarily for the children's safety.

Heartbreaking & devastating. I hope and pray that despite this terrible, tragic and horrendous loss the children have suffered the children grow and make their mum proud.

May Crystal Rest In Peace.

***JW you may want to talk to the attorney general, or prosecutor if one has been set. they need to go before the judge.
Steven Mcdowell has threatened to hurt himself in the past, if he were to be released on bail their risking the chance he takes the cowardly way out.
All of us Texans are well aware of our justice system here supporting the death penalty. " an eye for an eye".!
I can almost guarantee his mind is constantly reminding him of our laws in Texas . This is another reason he should never be able to bond out..
Evidently and obviously .... he's a coward and a controller .. with nothing else to lose.
Justice needs be served and sentenced !
God Bless you and your family***

Him making a threat and it just being her word against his without any evidence is just not going to be a situation where LE or CPS is going to step in. Even if CPS did get involved, they would close the case very quickly with a recommendation for therapy. But even if they did remove the kids from him, they would have taken the kids away from her too if she stayed living with him. It sounds like that was their only other history with LE, and there was just nothing they could do. Kids get left in FAR worse situations than this, unfortunately, and far too often.

How about if when these now small children grow up they turn to their relatives and say "What in God's name were you thinking to allow a relationship to continue between us and the man who killed our mother?
You traipsed us off to a state prison for visits with a psychopathic killer! Why? Why not just let that relationship go? How did it actually help us for you to foster the continuance of a relationship with the monster who murdered our beloved mother?"

Because that could very well happen. There have been plenty of families who have had to make tough decisions on behalf of small children when a parent is found out to be a criminal. Not even a murderer, let alone the murderer of the childrens' mother. Sometimes families do not want the children influenced by a criminal for the rest of their lives. Think of the Sievers case.

They'll say we made the best decision we could at the time.
How much knowledge did the family have of Steve's behavior before this?
And don't forget, they are having the kids get help from a psychiatrist.

I was able to find it. Very sweet. I love how they all showed up in uniform to honor her. While looking for it I also caught a glimpse of another comment from someone who said that her daughter cried out for her during the funeral. And now I'm just sad.

-Oh gosh that's gut wrenching...Wow. The profound way in which Crystal touched the lives of those she encountered lends alot to just how much she will be missed. The far reaching impact she had is remarkable. Like-all the employees dressed in uniform, who, many hadn't seen each other in awhile! At first glance I thought a group had gathered at the airport. Then I realized where they were. Thats not something you see often. I can't imagine the void for these children.

My thoughts as well. I think they are risking a lot by not telling the kids that their dad killed their mom. I hope that if the kids ask they aren't lied to, because the family doesn't want to tell them until they are older. But I feel the kids should know the truth and decide on their own, with the guidance of therapists, if they want to have a relationship with him.

Her funeral shows how many loved her and how far her impact reached. I hope someday that brings peace to her babies.
