Shannon Miles' attorney files motion to stop transfer to mental facility
It was announced Tuesday that it could take months to get Shannon Miles into a mental health facility. Now, Miles is on the fast track thanks to a state senator.

(...)Senator John Whitmire, D-Houston, thinks the jail isn’t the safest place for Miles, the guards or Goforth’s friends and colleagues.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys both agreed Tuesday (...)

However by Friday, Attorney Anthony Osso had changed his mind. Osso says Senator Whitmire is using Miles as a "political pawn"

I'm not really seeing ANY benefit to Miles by prolonging his stay in jail/prison (rather than allowing him to be transferred mental health facility). Sounds like just another possible issue to appeal when the time comes, seeing as I'm guessing the motion will be denied.

"He's schizophrenic and episodically psychotic," Osso told reporters after a brief hearing Tuesday.
After Miles is in the hospital for 120 days, he will be evaluated again to determine if he is fit to stand trial.

So, we've gone from "execution as part of a war on cops by Black Lives Matter" to a mentally incompetent schizophrenic who can't stand trial. Has the sheriff apologized for his wrongful accusations yet?

This Sunday will mark one year since Harris County Deputy Darren Goforth was murdered. However, the trial against the man accused of firing 15 shots is on hold.

There were calls for justice from the very beginning.

"It is time for the silent majority in this country to support law enforcement," said Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson, speaking at a press conference after the murder.

A year later, this is where the case stands now.

My old PD neighbor used to joke about "Badge Bunnies" but I assumed he was exaggerating. I guess not 0.0

I seriously doubt this case will ever go to trial. Sounds as if Mr Miles will be in a secure treatment center for the rest of his life.

Several hundred police officers, local residents and volunteer firefighters gathered for a memorial service Saturday morning in the county park named for slain deputy Darren H. Goforth, an effort by organizers to keep the memory of the officer alive.

"We come here today not to shed any more tears, but to remember and reflect on the man that he was and what his death meant to the community," said Tim Mordecai, a veteran deputy sheriff and president of the Deputy Memorial Fund which organized the event.

Accused killer in deputy Goforth case pleads guilty, avoids death penalty
Shannon Miles, the man who fatally shot Harris County sheriff's Deputy Darren Goforth, pleaded guilty Wednesday to capital murder in exchange for life without parole, escaping the death penalty.

Miles, 32, ambushed Goforth at a gas station in August 2015.

Law enforcement officers of every stripe filled the ceremonial courtroom of the civil courthouse as Miles appeared in a bright yellow jail uniform before state District Judge Susan Brown.
