EXCLUSIVE: Joseph Pappas told friend he has a hit list
The former friend says he believes Pappas is hunting his next victim or victims.
“If there’s a bully he had in high school I would tell that person to take an unplanned vacation to Alaska,” the friend said.

It appears this longtime friend does not think JP is dead. He speaks of him in the present tense, and issues warnings to those who may have crossed him in the past. Not to cast aspersions, but I hope this friend had contacted police early on in the investigation. Maybe he was the one who offered the tip that identified the suspect, though that apparently came many days after the murder. Maybe he was traveling and did not see the news about a doctor’s murder in Houston when it first happened. Or maybe he kept the info from the police until it was too late to capture JP. Just a weird dynamic going on there I think.

At any rate, this friend may know JP fairly well, and his report of a “hit list” is absolutely chilling. This suspect seems to be highly intelligent, and an expert marksman. This was an elaborate plan and I remain uneasy that he has not been located yet. Hope LE is grilling this friend to learn as much as possible.

“I called him on the 24th and he said he had a terminal illness, and that’s why he deeded (me) the house,”
That explains everything. Just as I thought--why revenge now.

I guess his doctor who diagnosed his terminal illness will be interviewed by police.

All the more likely he won't be found alive.

it would be interesting to know if that call was long like reliving memories with person

wanting final contact but he could not come out and say I am killing myself tomm so the term illiness might have been a story just to have one final contact with a person he cared about just speculating

My guess is this friend didn't realize that JP was the suspect in Dr.s' murder before JP was named the suspect. The suspect was described originally as a man around 30 years old, that's way off. When they talked about JP's having a hit list, it sounds like JP was talking about people who he believed wronged him, such as bullies in high school, and not the doctor specifically.

They are saying local news that the reason for the activity at the house was because they got a call that there was a light on in the house and the gate had been opened

They thought he might be going to his house which makes no sense since the house was empty.

the just said the sighting was a false alarm

Manhunt continues after false alarm at murder suspect's home

No.

Certainly cyclists may recognize other cyclists - I think that is a good suggestion. There was someone else who was asking about why no one recognized the cyclist if he had practiced the route before, etc... just saying, even if he had walked and observed on foot, or in a car, or on a bike, this is a very busy area with a lot of pedestrians, cyclists, etc, and on any given day, most individuals don't stand out. During rush hour, there is a ton of activity.

in this day and age i dont think people on their daily commute are noticing anything but their cell phone!!

He was selling or trying to sell a lot of items presumably for cash. So he likely has a bunch of cash. So he could be holed up somewhere is a bunch of cash planning his next move, I don't think he is dead. LE can track his credit card purchases but not his cash purchases, so if he rented a house somewhere, using cash, he could be holed up in that house with a bunch of provisions for who knows how long.

Pappas is dead per CNN

He shot himself when confronted by LE

He had body armour on they shot him

Bizarre final scene

Confirmed: He had a huge file on DR. Huge. He had other names of people he worked with on his list - that is the hit list part

Well look at that bit of info on the radio.
“Now, as the manhunt drags on, police continue to warn that Pappas could be armed and dangerous, and -- thanks to his law enforcement background -- have access to police radio and tactical channels to monitor the dragnet police have cast to catch him, Acevedo said“.

THANK GOODNESS this is over. This suspect was EXTREMELY dangerous with his skill and knowledge of LE resources. Poor Dr. Hausknecht was the first to die on the so called hit list, and it is just fortunate that no other murders were committed before the suspect ended his life. At least, I HOPE no other people have died because of this “injustice collector”.

So many parallels with the Scottsdale shooter: hit list, axe to grind over long period, red with rage, going to the victims' workplace, paranoic thinking.

Wonder if there is footage of the final confrontation shot from helicopter.

The next things to be found out, is whether he really had terminal illness, and if yes (I tend to believe so), what it was and when he was diagnosed.

JP reportedly stalked the doctor at least five times and had an extensive intelligence file on him.
"The suspect in the murder of a prominent Houston doctor had stalked the victim at least five times since early last month, leading ultimately to the deadly shooting in the Texas Medical Center, sources told Eyewitness News."

Suspect stalked doctor 5 times before killing him, sources say

How (in)convenient that he dropped his wallet containing his ID during the pursuit, only for the park employee to confirm his identity? The bike and the wallet are two crucial things that gave him away, which as an experienced LE officer he shouldn't have let happen.

Maybe he decided to commit suicide by cop and dropped it on purpose.
