When my cousin Danny went missing in 1977 It was a horrible time for our family,Danny was found within 3 days but it seemed an eternity.
I am so grateful that our family was not attacked in the media,he was murdered. The pain, anguish and guilt are a million times worse then can be imagined.

My sympathies about your cousin! I know how those losses stay with you. My 18-year-old cousin fell through the ice on New Year's Eve in 1981. Because his friends didn't report it until a day later, divers weren't able to find his body. Rumors swirled around town that he'd run away. The family's priest refused to say a Mass for him (but took my aunt and uncle's money for it). My cousin's body was recovered in March when the ice on the lake melted. Even though we knew my cousin was dead, the rumors during those 3 months were disturbing. Even the fact that he was adopted as an infant (and probably "illegitimate") was gossiped about.

I was brave at 13, brave enough to run away etc.. but NOT brave enough to hitchhike.....
