I’m from the Rocky Mountain area so I have no idea if this a thing but can you swim in a bayou?

The bayou is typically unsuitable for swimming. However, the water comes from Burnet Bay (I'm not sure about the current or other water movement) but Burnet Bay does have swim beaches. It's possible he was swimming there and floated into the bayou.

The current for Buffalo Bayou goes the other way. It flows to the east. If he started in Burnet Bay, I think he'd end up in the Ship Channel. I wish I knew which bayou he was recovered from and where.
