I just spoke with Theresa again. She insists that Gertrude ran concessions (particularly pony rides) for Wagner's Carnivals around 1979-1980, and she knows other former carnival workers who would be able to say that they worked for her too. Theresa was born in 1958, and was 22 at the time. So her age and the year tie in to our timeframe.

I asked if she might have been working for the Moss family, and not Gertrude. She insisted that it was Gertrude, and that Gertrude is her aunt. (Gertrude's daughter did confirm that Theresa is her cousin).

She said that she will get in touch with some other friends who might be able to provide info, and have them call me.

Well, we always say that its not like looking for a needle in a haystack - its more like looking for the correct haystack.

I hope we have found the right haystack now and that this will lead to WCJD's identity.

Did she say she recognized WCJD photos?

I'm not sure which photos she saw that she thought were WCJD. But I don't have any PM's on the facebook page, so it was probably the various reconstructions.

Just for kicks, show her a picture of Kathy, and see if it jingles a bell.

This seems to me to be the most promising lead I've seen for this case.

I can't remember if anyone had trawled the high school year books for the areas around Aransas Pass and that part of the Gulf Coast, but now there's a possible name it should be an easier job to do if it hasn't been done.

I so agree with you Melmoth!! Exciting. So maybe they need to look for a Sonja Lewis and Elaine Lewis...and find the carnival people and dig dig dig.

Hopefully There's and Gertrude's daughter can provide more. Alot makes sense...dad possibly in jail...mom in bars, which could be a reason why she was on the run...and explain her haunting words..."who cares"???.

If her family lived a somewhat transient lifestyle, that might explain why there appears to be no missing person report for her, too.

Or some kind of tragic event could have taken place like a house fire, or car accident, thus killing her parents, and putting her on the streets. Rather then go to a state run girls home she just bolted.

Go to the newspaper archives in the area we think she came from, and search for tragic events.

If that does not work, then keep faning out making the circle bigger and bigger. After all, she came within a circle. The only question is: how big is that circle.

I just had a brainstorm, why not start the circle around where she was dropped off in the blue car? She could not have come from very far if she wasn't on the streets very long. Also, I don't even think she was a prostitute. I think the perp may have approached her outside the diner, and when she told him to *advertiser censored*** off, he may have gotten angry, and forced her into his truck.

I guess my working theory here is the fact that this girl had been well taken care of. So for someone not to be looking for her would suggest they were no longer alive. This tragic exsperiance in her life could have explained her "who cares" attitude inside the diner.

I also had that thought but if she grew up transient like a carnival worker, I imagine that the lack of boundaries she was given made her think nobody cared.

I somewhat disagree, I'm inclined to think that the carnie life can be very "cultish." These people seem to watch out for one another, and are somewhat like a big family.

I guess those Lewis's if they're alive is the clue. Also... In looking at her post mortem pic, I remember somebody way back in the thread commenting that she looked a little Spanish or Mexican ... And when CarlK spoke of Gertrude saying Lewis has a "bayou" or Alabama accent...does anyone else feel like this is a fit? Cathy doesn't look Spanish or Mexican .

I've always wondered if someone in her family either caused her death, or didn't report her missing because they were glad she was gone. And her "who cares" might have meant she was glad to be gone, too.

But that's just one of many things I've wondered.

Another is what happened to the guy who dropped her off, and if he knows anything. I kind of think he continued on his way, living his own life, and doesn't even know that the girl he gave a ride to was a murder victim.

Being a 14-year-old-girl, I don't see how her whole family would be glad she was gone. She would had to be the rottenest little girl in the world.

Well of course it wouldn't be because of her personality. I'm thinking of situations like a second wife jealous of the first wife's daughter, or an abusive situation where one spouse no longer had to worry about what the other was doing, or something along those lines. And more likely not actively glad, just too busy with life and other kids and whatnot.

Oh I gotcha, that actually happened to my grandma when she was about 14 or 15. Her stepmother chased her out the door smacking her with a hair brush. She said she left and never went back.
