The funds to return Jo should have been released much sooner. If everyone knew the whole story they would be jumping up and down.
If Jo were your child would you want her to spend another minute waiting for officials to vote money to find her??? Thats exactly what her parents had to do.
There is no needle in a haystack there is information on her location its just a matter of time. I wish too that all involved stay safe in their search.
You also have another missing.............Jennifer..................now its her time to ask for help returning home. Pray for her and her family..............................
Abernathy is a graveyard and no one knows it. What other secrets does it hold???

Boy, this will be like looking for a needle in a haystack. I give LE tons of credit for going ahead and getting the money to do this especially as it is dangerous. I hope all of the people searching stay safe and that they find Joanna. Lord, allow a miracle to happen for Joanna's parents.
Luckily the landfill keeps very precise records on everything. They have it narrowed down to a very small section, in comparison to how large it could have been. I hope and pray that they do find her and bring peace to Jo's parents.

They began the search in the landfill this morning. It is estimated to take up to 4 weeks. Prayers for Jo and her family.

Equipment is now in place to start digging through two years worth of trash in an effort to find Joanna Rogers. The Lubbock teen has been missing since May 2004.

Two months ago, Rosendo Rodriguez confessed to strangling the teen, putting her body in a suitcase and throwing it in a dumpster. He is the same man who is charged with capital murder in the death of Summer Baldwin. Baldwin's body was found inside a suitcase at the city landfill last September.

Investigators say it will take four weeks to dig the area they have marked off. Based on testimony from Rodriguez, they were able to pinpoint a small area within 15 acres where they think Rogers' may be buried.

She can't help investigators search for her daughter, so Saturday Kathy Rogers joined the search for Peggy Merimon. Rogers assisted in search efforts Saturday morning. She met the Merimon family for the first time Friday night. The United Response Search and Rescue Team is the same group that helped in the original search for Kathy's daughter, Joanna. Rogers says this is one way she can help and deal with the pain of the landfill search for Joanna.

Rogers says, "They have told me when the time is right, that they will escort me to the landfill sight, and let me be sure that I know what's going on. There's no particular need for me to be sitting on a cliff watching them. That's just too depressing."

Saturday, contractors started moving dirt at the city landfill in the new search for Joanna. The first phase is expected to last a few days. The next phase could last up to three weeks. Investigators will then dig through more than two years of trash, looking for any sign of Joanna.

WOW that is going to be a big job looking through 2 years of rubbish.

Hoping they are successful in their endeavours so Joanna can be laid to rest respectfully by those who love her.

My thoughts go out to her loved ones.

The search for the remains of a Lubbock teen is underway at the Lubbock landfill. Joanna Rogers went missing in May 2004.

Investigators believe Rogers` body is at the landfill because of a confession by Rosendo Rodriguez III, who says he killed the 16-year-old, stuffed her body in a suitcase and dumped it there.

Thanks to landfill records and dates pinpointed by investigators, the Lubbock Sheriff`s Office blocked off an area at the landfill where they believe Rogers` body may be located.

Last weekend we received close to 4 inches of rain and the search came to a halt until it is dry enough to resume. The weather never cooperates does it?

I hope they find her soon.

Every time it rains they have to stop the search and wait for it to dry, we have been receiving an unusual amount of rain lately. Hopefully it will dry up long enough for them to finish the search and bring Jo home.

Does it dry out pretty fast? Now if that was going on here in Washington state they would have to wait until next spring...if they were lucky :)

They resumed the search yesterday, we don't receive much rain at all in these parts Bobbisangel. I think our normal yearly average is around 10 to 12 inches. LOL Welcome to the desert.

They found newspapers with dates and that caused them to move over a little in the spot where they are searching. I keep hoping and praying that it is done quickly to finally put Jo at rest. I really can't see them doing this unless Rosendo Rodriguez was given a lie detector test for some kind of credibility.

Prayers to the volunteer workers that they find Joanna quickly. If she is not there I vote they put him at the bottom of the landfill, and fill it back in.
