A little more info......First I've heard it was a classmate.......

from your link

Detectives said they believe other people took part in the slaying, but they have not released any details.

Hopefully, all that participated in this vicious attack will be brought to justice. It sounds like Josh didn't have a chance against multiple assailants. What cowards! Any that knew about this prior to or during should be charged. jmo

Rest in Peace Josh

The suspect, identified as Hermilo Moralez, beat Joshua Wilkerson to death with a large wooden object sometime Tuesday afternoon, according to court records from Brazoria County. The 19-year-old then burned the teenager's body.

The victim's body was found partially burned with the hands and feet bound in a Pearland field.

Pearland Police are questioning the validity of the probable cause document and state that so far, they have not found a clear motive in the case.

Moralez is in custody. Police say the suspect was a classmate of the victim.

Man charged with murder in death of Pearland teen
By MIKE GLENN HOUSTON CHRONICLE
Nov. 18, 2010, 4:45PM

A man identified early as person of interest in the disappearance of a Pearland teenager is now the prime suspect in his slaying, Pearland police said today.

Hermilo Moralez, 19, was charged with murder in the apparent beating death of Josh Wilkerson, 18.

The body was found Wednesday evening in a overgrown field near FM 518 and FM 521 in Fort Bend County.

Became became suspicious about Moralez after finding him loitering in an area near Wilkerson's abandoned vehicle.

He gave false information about his name when Pearland police questioned him. He was taken into custody and charged with failure to identify when investigators found out his true identity, authorities said.

Why is this murderer smiling in that mugshot?

snip from article...

Police also say that as the investigation progressed, Moralez agreed to cooperate with search and rescue activities on the ground. They say Moralez was handcuffed and walking with detectives through a field Wednesday afternoon when the group reached a fence. As investigators negotiated over the fence, Moralez attempted to pull a detective's weapon from his holster. Moralez was restrained and returned to the city jail

That right there should of been enough to at least shoot him in the knee cap...

how tragic.

If this is an example of who lives in town, this provides some insight into why Joshua wanted out of Pearland. too bad he could not get out in time.

Hahaha! Sorry, but that was funny! I would have aimed higher though....especially after seeing Josh's body.....wonder when he was bound hand and foot? Also, wonder how he carried Josh that far.....he obviously had to carry him over the fence and if I'm not mistaken Josh was a pretty big kid. I just hope and pray he didn't make Josh walk there.....Please tell me its not so......

probably a gang initiation and the s--t a-s grin is that he is proud of himself for accomplishing the deed.

he probably thinks it will get him respect in prison, that is if he even knows what the word means.

I don't know why they didn't just go ahead and shoot him when he tried to take the Officers gun...save the taxpayers a lot of money. He's just worthless flesh as far as I'm concerned.

We moved out of Pearland into Friendswood about 5 years ago, and it was the best move we ever made. We felt we needed to get our kids (twin girls and a son) out of those schools and into a better environment. When they were in grade school, it was fine, but when they started building newer houses the old houses became cheap and the demographics really changed in a 10 year period. I don't know why Pearland chose to go for "quantity over quality", but they did and became this huge clusterfrick of low income housing areas. Near 288 they built nice houses (supposedly to make the commute to Houston easier) and so the focus of Pearland moved to that end, leaving the rest of Pearland in a horrible mess. Plus, the crime in the newer part of Pearland rose to unbelievable numbers. But since we were on the side of Pearland opposite of 288
the "more affordable" housing was pushed our way and it became intolerable with bullying, stealing and even teachers became hardened, making it a very unfriendly place for kids, in my opinion. Others may not feel this way, but I moved to Pearland from Alabama in 1998 when it was still a small community, and when I left 5 years ago I never looked back. The kids my kids were friends with have mostly dropped out of school, or are in alternative schools....all of this is MOO, of course. Either way, I don't blame Josh for wanting out I hated that school district and moved him out before Jr. High. Thank God.

I have so many words on this case, I lurked in here but was caught up verbally in the Maynard family search...

But this... this is tragic on so many levels. I do not like that smile on the perps face, and that mentality in our society - HAS TO STOP! HAS TO!

(I really could go on about this for hours, but out of respect I will leave it at that.)

OMG. I am so disgusted. This punk that is laughing. Why? I am stumped.

We moved here in 2005 not realizing what I was getting into. My daughter is in 2nd this year and I cannot conceive of being here when she reaches middle school. I too remember when Pearland was more of a small town and that was my original attraction; however, I did not realize that the influx of people would have the negative impact that it did.

same think is happening on the west side too......
