Tragic. Just cannot help but think the murders are connected. As cautious as the McLellands were, it is also possible they knew the perpetrator, or maybe there were more than one, and forced themselves into the house after McLelland opened the door.

MOO

The video that they show on CNN, video of the presser by Mike McLelland (given after Mark Hasse's murder), is somewhat longer ... in it Mike McLelland calls those who murdered Mark Hasse "scum" etc

Tragic..

rest assure that whoever did these killings-there is a cell waiting on DR for them..You don't kill anyone is Texas!!!

"District Attorney Mike McLelland took no chances after one of his assistant prosecutors was assassinated two months ago. McLelland said he carried a gun everywhere he went and took extra care when answering the door at his home."

"A police officer and friend of the couple had checked on them Saturday night and found the door open, reported ABC affiliate WFAA-TV."

BBM ... If they were careful about answering the door, and the door was open, it makes me wonder if they knew the shooter.
The latest report stated the door was kicked in.

didn't know this, not that it's relevant, but Terrell State (Mental) Hospital also houses the criminally insane, iirc.

Mr. McLelland's wife, Cynthia, was a registered nurse at the area's Terrell State Hospital

That is interesting for sure. Criminals and the criminally insane could be the same person in between one of the other. You know how it goes , prove you're not guilty by reason of insanity and you can go spend life in the hospital instead of prison, but that would depend on if the DA will allow you to try that defense.
Good find !

This is really unbelievable.

Prayers to the McLelland's family and friends.

Door was kicked in.

"The front door of the McLellands' 3,000 square foot residence was found kicked in, sources added. Kaufman County deputies, the FBI, Texas Rangers, the Texas Department of Public Safety and Forney police are all involved in the investigation."

I just bet these crimes are connected. McLelland had police protection for a month after a first murder. Well, the month was up, no more protection, and now he and his wife are murdered. I bet the killer or killers waited until protection was gone before making their move.

Yes. I think they need protection, and need to go someplace in secret until this is solved. Awful.

If all of them go "some place else" who is going to be solving the case?

Wild West

Dangerous jobs... :(

I don't blame some people who simply want to keep low profiles nowadays...

Tell ya what crossed my mind when I heard the news and wondered about connections and I have no reason to believe a connection exist. It should be noted though.

On March 19th, 2013 DENVER - Documents reveal authorities began looking for Evan Ebel less than a full day after the murder of Colorado's prison chief Tom Clements was shot to death in the entryway of his Monument home.

Evan Ebel fled to Texas

Shell casings found after a shootout between Ebel and Texas lawmen on March 21 matched the casings found at Clements' home, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities say Ebel was a member of a white supremacist prison gang, the 211 Crew. ABC News has reported that authorities are investigating whether the killing of Clements was a gang-ordered hit.

Ebel, who was shot in the head during the gunfight in Texas and pronounced dead the next day, had spent nearly eight years in four different Colorado prisons. Records show he had 28 disciplinary violations during his incarceration.

Now I know Ebel didn't shoot these prosecutors but could it be connected to the supremacist prison gangs?

Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland, wife found dead in home

Kaufman County’s district attorney and his wife were found slain Saturday, raising fears that their deaths may be part of a plot that included the killing of one of the county’s assistant district attorneys in January.

Kaufman Police Chief Chris Aulbaugh and other officials confirmed that Mike McLelland and his wife, Cynthia Woodward McLelland, had been shot at their home near Forney.

Interesting information in a long read at the NY Times in an article on the McLelland murders:

A law enforcement official said investigators believed that the shootings of the two prosecutors were related, but appeared to have been carried out by different people, perhaps from the same group or with the same affiliation. Shell casings were recovered in the shootings of the McLellands, but not in the shooting of Mr. Hasse, indicating that his killer or killers had more experience, the official said.
